Candace, reading Still Alice literally changed my life! I cried several times while reading it because the main character's love for using, teaching, and manipulating language was slipping away due to her disease. That broke my heart.I was extremely touched (and bawled) when reading how her relationship with her husband and children changed. I have 5 children and 19 grandchildren so that aspect hit me hard!
The reality of life changing events is what changed my life. Lisa is definitely one of my favorite authors now. Left Neglected was not as good as Still Alice, but another life changing event further changed how I view and live my own life as we never know!
I hope you read Still Alice because I am certain you'll get a new perspective on this dreadful disease. But at the same time I think it'll help you to understand it and therefore help your mother through this difficult time.

. Have you read that one? It's a very pivotal book in African American lit!
I am in the same boat as Jayme, but I decided to pick one from the highest ratings, even though only a person or a few rated it, and one of my other highest ratings that have a few more ratings:

Oh, I see. That's a great idea too. When will sign-ups begin because I'm in!
I wasn't planning to read
now, but my daughter happened to open it and look at it two days ago and asked me if I wanted to read it with her. I said, "Not now," but looked at it to see what it was all about because she said it was "crazy good." Now I have about 13 pages left. LOL I wanted to just "see what it was about" and it hooked me!
