67670 You, all the writers among us: please take this as an invitation to share your experiences creating the ebook editions of our work, right here!

67670 Good afternoon Marcia! So happy to hear your voice here. I think it is so important for readers to realize the careful work that goes into producing an ebook. In the case of your book, Joan of Arc: The Mystic Legacy, this level of paying attention to detail is even more crucial, because of having to incorporate color photographs and lay the text out in a pleasing manner on each page.

So I hope you continue to share your experience here, about creating the ebook edition of your book: how many revisions did it take to get it right? What were the major stumbling blocks? This is of particular interest to me, because in the back of my mind I am planning to create an ebook edition for each one of my children books (you can see the animations for them on my author page, http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... )

67670 He brings athletes, belly dancers, performers each Friday
Right into your bedroom, for you to hear, honey!
So when Cameron called me I knew, I just knew, right away
That with him, I'll find myself in such great company!

He asked: if your novel would turn into a movie
Who'd play Ben--immature, insecure and naive?
Who'd play Anita--sexy, edgy, and groovy?
What my answer was, you just wouldn't believe!

67670 Damaskcat, a Top 50 Amazon Reviewer (ranks 19 in the UK) and participant in Vine Voice program, posted this 4-star review for Apart From Love:

"I really warmed to Anita as a character. She tried to make sense of what to her was an alien world. She truly loves Lenny and wants to fit in with his world. She has common sense and an understanding of people which Ben seems to lack. I found Ben an annoying character and frequently wanted to shake him and tell him to pull himself together even though I could understand where he was coming from. Anita was at least trying to make something of her life, but Ben wasn't even trying - or that's how it came over to me.

I did enjoy this book and thought it made both sad and amusing reading and I laughed and cried while I was reading it. I thought the passages about Natasha and her illness were very well done. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to read something a little bit different from the normal run of fiction."

67670 Cameron Datzker is a veteran of sports talk radio for over 20 years. His background starts back as a play by play announcer calling both college football, and minor league baseball and hockey. He has spent his broadcasting days as a host for various radio stations in both New York and Chicago and Oklahoma City. Being a man of controversy he tells it like he sees it.

Cameron had the highest rated public access shows called, "it's a sports thing" which appeared on the Time Warner TV Network, this show featured various no name singers, dancers and performers as well as it featured belly dancers and celebrities in the community.

I am very honored that Cameron asked me to come on his show, Sports and Life on LA Talk Radio. The show will air Friday night, July 27, 2012, at 8:00pm Pacific Standard Time. Later this week I will let you know how to call in the show, so you and I can engage in conversation. Stay tuned...

67670 The host of Triangle Variety Radio, Patrick Williams, will be interviewing me this Friday, July 20, 2012, at 8:00PM Eastern Standard Time.

This would be a full one-hour interview, which gives me a great opportunity to talk about my writing and art at greater depth than my previous radio interviews. What's more, this interview format lends itself to a broader discussion--not only between Patrick and me, but above all, between you and me! You are invited to call in. It will be my pleasure to respond to your questions about my work and about the creative process. If you have read Apart From Love and have lingering thoughts, or if you would like to learn about the story, please take advantage of this opportunity!

To listen to the interview: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/triangle...

The call-in number is (949) 272-9578 Press #1.

67670 Ogwo, I just took a look at your Author Profile here on Goodreads and found that you had written You Are a Star. Where can readers find this book and your new book?

67670 Yes, Christine, I understand, me too... There is nothing like the rustle of the pages as you turn them, they lend a background rhythm to the story...

You might want to watch my animation, Now I Am Paper, which talks about the voice of the book in your hands. To watch, take a look here: http://uviart.blogspot.com/2012/04/jo...

67670 One more thing that makes posting there cumbersome is the fact that you cannot post a link in a way that makes it clickable. This problem, which they created, they try to solve by providing a tool called 'link maker.' Which means that those of us technically challenged are at a disadvantage.

All that said, you should get in and establish a presence there. If you find a way to use it to your advantage let me know.

67670 You, Sheila? Lost? Never! ;)

I've heard negative impressions from fellow writers about Kindle Boards. They have strict rules against self-promotion, which are posted on your book thread as soon as you create it, blocking everything else from direct view. The name of the moderator is Betsy the Weaver, but I don't know that she can weave with that iron fist of hers. She enjoys 'punishing' writers who stray, even accidentally, from a complex set of rules.

So it all depends how you want to use Kindle Boards--as a reviewer or as a writer.

67670 A native of Colorado, Pat Bertram is the author of Light Bringer, Daughter Am I, More Deaths Than One, and A Spark of Heavenly Fire. She graciously invites authors to publish excerpts of their work on her blog, whimsically named Dragon My Feet.

Tonight she posted an excerpt of Apart From Love. I have to admit, this one it is a particular favorite of mine, please check it out.

67670 Thank you Angela for your comforting words. You are so sensitive... Will get back to this topic later this week.

67670 Thank you so much, all of you who supported my recent book promotion by sharing my posts, tweeting them, taking a look at the recommendations, 'looking inside' the book, or most importantly--getting it. At the moment the promotion ended, Apart From Love hit Amazon Best Sellers Rank:
#88 Free in Kindle Store
#6 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Fiction > Contemporary Fiction

Being a completely unknown author coming out of obscurity, these numbers are utterly amazing to me. But beyond the fireworks' display of numbers, stands the simple fact that now, you are holding my book in your hands. This, in a sense, is a handshake; a touch between me and you.

I truly hope that you will be drawn to the characters and become engaged with the story. If so, please help me spread the word: let your friends know about the book. Also, please consider creating your own review of it on Amazon. Apart From Love relies entirely on your word of mouth! You have the power to bring this book to the attention of a larger audience.

67670 The first I learned about Alzheimer's was during the last year of my father's life (he passed away at 94.) Talking to him on the phone, half a world away, during that period became increasingly frustrating, as every conversation I would have to break though a higher and thicker wall to let him understand it was me. I wrote down some of these conversations because they were so heart breaking. Up to that point he was an immensely creative person.

A second time I learned about it by visiting an elderly lady (also in her 90's) an acquaintance, who had deteriorated in her old age and was placed in a 'home'. That had a profound impression on me, which I expressed in Apart From Love through Ben's repeated visits to see his mother Sunset home.

Admittedly these cases were Alzheimer's in elderly people, and for this story I had to learn about early onset Alzheimer's. I learned about it in so many ways, that the process requires an entire future post...

I loved that poem you wrote, about your patient... It was so moving, and so personally felt.

67670 I tend to agree with you; I like to 'remove' myself as the intervening voice between the reader and the characters, and this is especially true in the way I structured Apart From Love, where the characters talk directly to you (using the tape recorder device.)

67670 You are a force, Angela!
I hope your friends don't hold it against me... lol!
Jul 14, 2012 09:10PM

67670 Oh, one more thing: I have two radio interviews lined up, one this Friday, one next Friday. Stay tuned for details...

Less than three hours to midnight; the ebook edition of Apart From Love is still free until then!
Jul 14, 2012 09:05PM

67670 Thank you Angela for posting it on your wall... I thing one reason it was good was the time frame--half an hour compared to the previous radio interviews I did, which were 15 minutes each.

Funny you should mention my voice, because just this week one of m readers wrote to me that a strange thing happened as she read Apart From Love: she said that she started hearing my voice telling her the story! So I asked her if she could 'hear' my voice throughout the story, or only through certain characters. That made her think; finally she came to the conclusion that it happened especially through Ben's voice.
