His brow furrowed with worry and concentration. "Let's not...jump to conclusions..." He took her hand, an arm wrapped protectively around her.

Max's body went rigid. "What...you don't mean he..." He trailed off, eyes widening.

"Hm. Maybe that's it. The champagne..."

Max hurried after her and kneeled on the floor beside her. He put a gentle hand on her back, eyes filled with worry. "Something you ate...?" he murmured.

Jink nudged open the door, green eyes glowing in the darkness. Good, the girl's asleep. Let's go, it's so cramped indoors.
Max shook his head. Leave without me. She asked me to stay.
Jink rolled his eyes and looked at the door. After a moment of decision, he curled up on the floor where he was, watchful eyes on Max and Bella.

I don't feel like coming up with a comeback, so... I lose.

And Kyra, YES! My music taste makes complete sense to me, but the rest of the world thinks I'm weird. XD Ah, whatever. I was born to be misunderstood. XD
But I'll be listening to my piece-of-crap mp3 named Garth and someone will be like, "Oh! Whatcha listening to, Mel?"

"Oh. Who's it by?"
"Beethoven. It's my favorite of his pieces."

And NO ONE I know knows about Of Monsters and Men, and very, very few know Florence!!! D: WHAT IS THAT?! They'll listen to that One Direction crud, but they can't bother to discover the most amazing music ever?! GAH!

Max watched her quietly, hoping her sleep was dreamless and peaceful, where she could escape the worries he feared she faced.

He shuddered with pleasure at her touch. How was this possible? How could it be true that she lied so close to him, so close he breathed in her lovely scent of forest pine and roses? How could she be content to lean her head against his chest and laugh with him like an old friend?
His mind flickered back to when he'd arrived, Bella's sickly pale face, and sad eyes locking with his. What if he hadn't made her healthy again? What if he'd listened to Jink's heeding words and spared himself his possible death?
His breathing hitched and he pulled Bella closer, terrified of the answer.
