57356 From Kim Sacchetti

Hey Everyone- It's been a while but I wanted to let you all know that I've started reading "Gone Girl" if anyone else wants to join in and discuss. Let me know!

Synopsis:
Marriage can be a real killer.
One of the most critically acclaimed suspense writers of our time, New York Times bestseller Gillian Flynn takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong. The Chicago Tribune proclaimed that her work “draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction.” Gone Girl’s toxic mix of sharp-edged wit and deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?
As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?
With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

Kim now that I've finished the book I kinda understood her reasons for returning but at the same time I feel the past is the past and if you did it up expect to live with the consequences like Megan had to. Even though her return did help in the capture of the serial killer but it also aided in the killing of innocent people. But I agree her return was for nostalgia purpose just to see what have changed or stayed the same the answer to all her what-ifs.

57356 Ladies, I'm all done and I must say I loved the end wasn't expecting that at all!!

So let's discuss...Who did you think the serial killer was at first??

What did you think of Megan husband for never asking about her past?

What do you think about his response after she told him about her past and what was happening in the present?

How did you like the book overall?

Would you have went back or let the past go?
Apr 18, 2012 12:28PM

57356 Ladies,

I'm halfway done and wanted to know what you guys think so far....

Do anyone sympathize with Megan/Cassie for wanting a little excitement in her life?

As a parent and a wife I can totally relate to her when she stated "My happiness is totally dependent on their smiles.....I just want them happy. But I used to be a functioning adult with my own emotions. Now as a mother, my happiness seems solely dependent on their smiles. They know it too."

Has it been hard to keep up with all the characters? I find myself flipping backwards just to figure out the characters.

What are your overall thoughts of the book?

Why did Megan go back was she right when she asked "Was the mask simply too heavy to wear for the rest of her life?"
