I just finished
When Elves Attack by Tim Dorsey. I wanted to read a holiday themed book that wasn't too serious and this crime comedy did the trick.
I'm currently reading the final book of Guillermo Del Toro's Strain trilogy called
The Night Eternal. The books in this series are quick reads with lots of action. I also like the scientific twist of vampirism.

I'm on the waiting list to read it. I'm eager to see ..."I'm glad they're making a movie, but I thought the series would have adapted better into a TV show.

I just finished The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan and I think it was a great boo..."I really enjoyed Bossypants too. It was a quick read and I liked the inside perspective to her SNL work. Right now I'm finishing up Explosive Eighteen by Janet Evanovich. Another good book if you're looking for a quick funny read.

I've actually read some on the list! Highly recommend
Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin and of course
Smokin' Seventeen by Janet Evanovich. I've also read some of the vampire fiction listed and
Dracula was a book I read back and forth with both the physical book format and an ebook.

Right now I'm reading one of my favorite historical mystery authors, Paul Doherty. The book, A Treason of Ghosts, is the twelfth in the Hugh Corbett mystery series (our library doesn't own this copy but it has many others in this series).
Hugh Corbett is a clerk for King Edward I and is trying to solve the brutal murders of numerous women in a small market village. Since the King's justice may have incorrectly killed an innocent man for previous slayings, Edward has an interest in these murders. Many suspects are introduced and Hugh checks them off his list through logical reasoning and his attention to detail.
If you enjoy reading authors like Sharon Kay Penman, you should give Doherty a try.

We will not discuss how long it has been since I've read these books, but ones that stand out to me are:
The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary
A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein
The Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell
Summer of the Monkeys by Wilson Rawls
Miranda wrote: "I have also read some Jean Plaidy, Kelli. I think she does a great job of bringing the stories of the queens to life.
I have also read all of her titles under the pseudonym Philippa Carr, a seri..."I have not read any Philippa Carr books. I will have to try that series. Thanks!
Melanie wrote: "Just finished "In the Garden of Beasts" by Erik Larson. I enjoyed it, but think Larson chose the wrong character as the central point. Instead of choosing Ambassador Dodd he should have gone with..."I'm really excited to read this book! I'll keep in mind what you said about the daughter.
Miranda wrote: "I'm about halfway through The Lost Gate, by Orson Scott Card, and it's so good that the story has been in the back of my mind while I do everything else for the last two days. The story is rooted ..."I have always wanted to read this author. I think I'll have to grab one of his books when I'm finished with what I'm reading now, Jean Plaidy's
The Thistle and the Rose. She writes historical fiction which I enjoy reading every now and then.

I decided to try a new author for me that was recommended for fans of Jeff Lindsay's Dexter series. The book is
I Am Not a Serial Killer by Dan Wells. The main character, John Wayne Cleaver is a 15 year-old boy that follows his own rules he has made for himself to curb his psychopathic behavior. Due to his odd behavior and his family mortuary business John begins to stand out when people in his small community are being murdered. Eventually, John discovers who is responsible for the brutal slayings and sacrifices his rules to let the monster inside him out in order to kill the real murderer.
There is a slight fantastical element to the book that I did not expect to be there but overall I am enjoying it.

This book sounds very entertaining. I'm going to have to add it to my list. Thanks!

Thanks for the list Laura!

I would recommend
Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. It's a horrifying, true account of a mountain climbing disaster that takes place on Mount Everest. There's nothing like a good battle of man vs. nature!

I'm reading a couple books right now. The first is
Room by Emma Donoghue and other is Laurie Notaro's latest,
It Looked Different on the Model. I am enjoying both even though they offer very different styles. Notaro's books are humorous quick reads about the crazy stuff that happens around her while Room is darker as its plot revolves around a kidnapping. I highly recommend both!

I always forget about this book but really want to read it... I need to add it to my to read list. :)

I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

Okay... I finished
Bossypants by Tine Fey. It is a great read if you just want something light and funny. I don't think you would expect anything too serious from her.
I've moved on to another book,
Native Tongue by Carl Hiaassen. Obviously, I still need to read something humorous and Hiaassen is pretty reliable to produce chuckles.

I just finished reading
Jane Eyre. I was worried I wasn't going to enjoy this classic but was pleasantly surprised.
I had to change things up from Jane Eyre however, and am currently reading Tina Fey's
Bossypants. I can't quit laughing.

Has anyone read The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffeneger? I keep playing with the idea of reading it.

I enjoyed Jasper Fforde's
Eyre Affair. Thursday Next works as a special ops agent in literary detection in an alternate 1985 Great Britain. She is hunting after someone who is killing off literary characters in famous works of literature and transports herself into these books. I wouldn't classify it as your typical time travel book though.
