This is where we can start discussing Ernest Hemingway's book,
The Sun Also Rise.

It would be easier for me if I know when I'm on duty for specific tasks."I agree that it is easier to have a specific duty at a specific time. I set up a nomination thread for the July read. Should we set up a schedule?
Nicolle wrote: "I forgot to say about inviting members to vote on a poll, as if you don't they will most likely not vote.
I will post later today when I have more time."Yes, I will do that. I am in another group where they post polls on the 15th of the month, but don't announce it. I never remember to vote!

I was wondering if we could have monthly themes and nominate books based on that. Examples would be a dystopian classic or a classic written by a woman, a play, etc. Any thoughts?

I have to have exact dates to work with. I will put the dates in my calendar so I won't forget.
We need time to get nominations (about 1 1/2 weeks) and then time to vote (1 week). Nicolle says we need to have the reading decided a month before it begins.
Gone with the Wind is the trimonthly book beginning in July. We also need a monthly read for July. I will set up a nominating thread tomorrow for the July nominations unless there are any objections or suggestions.

I don't see the July group read. How early should we start the voting? I would assume the tri-monthly book voting should be about two months before October? That would be July.
I could start the nominations for the July group read. When would be a good time?

So did I.

Could you tell us who agreed to be moderators?

I'm not reading this book since I don't like this type of writing. However, I heard that Marquez died today, so I want to make sure all you readers know this.

I read this in 2012 and this is my review:

You might have, but I didn't see it because it was at the bottom.

I never saw the poll. When I saw the suggestion, I thought the three month read was in place of the normal monthly read. Oh, well, I won't be reading War and Peace.

I am really confused. I thought that War and Peace was for January/February. Then we were supposed to nominate books for the January read which we haven't voted on yet.
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...Are we supposed to read War and Peace as well as other books? I find it difficult enough to read one classic a month.

Have you encountered any funny or witty quotes when you are reading classics? Feel free to share here.

You can start it.

This change in rules was not announced to all the members of Goodreads. It was announced to the Feedback group only. The GR staff have now begun a systematic purging of reviews and shelves that don't meet their new rules, BUT haven't told most people about the rules. GR's staff has not addressed any of the questions that have arisen since they made their small announcement in a small group. They deleted one of my reviews last week without notice or explanation. Many people are now setting up accounts on a new site called Booklikes, which does not censor or delete one's writings. If you don't write reviews, then you shouldn't have a problem, but if you do, just be aware that censorship is taking place.

For those of you who have had your head in a book for the past five days, there's been an official Goodreads announcement of policy changes on permissible shelf names and new review guidelines that has not been announced to all members. This is the link:

Well, Pride and Prejudice is a great start, followed by Jane Eyre. Another female author is Elizabeth Gaskell who wrote
North and South,
Mary Barton and
Cranford. If you want to read American authors, then Uncle Tom's Cabin is one to read followed by Willa Cather's books.
