4170 Woot! The bridge from audio to video has been successfully crossed - awesome first episode! And I think whatever was in the bubbling goblets was what kept Veronica's head from exploding.

Could this lead to "dragoning" a book?
4170 Oh jeeze, well that's kinda understandable. But nothing from the first movie carries over into the second (other than our beloved enterprise crew), and it's a much better film in every way (though brimming in cheeze, it's *good* cheeze).

Yes, definitely use the opportunity to rectify this gap in your geek education. Sounds fun.

4170 Reading in bed I conk out too fast.

I usually read during my train commute to and from work (+ the bus, if I'm doing a completely carless commute), but that reading time's recently been DECIMATED by an evil daemon called Draw Something.

The couch would be a good candidate, except there's the laptop and the TV in front of it, which act as reading short-circuit mechanisms. But sometimes I end up reading there anyway.

4170 Someone should engineer a washing machine that responds to the voice command, "Shut up!"

Also, I used to work at Borders, and had to evict people like Veronica from those comfy chairs at closing time.

A *too* comfy reading chair leads to sleep just as quickly as reading in bed, though - for me, at least.
4170 Wow, this is certainly a good reason for me to get back on Google+ for a day!

You don't actually get charged until the end of the pledging period. So no matter what, you get charged for 10 days. "

Yeah, I had forgotten that delayed (and only if it gets full funding) aspect of kickstarter. But I have pledged now regardless! :)

Tamahome, no, physical and e-books.

Ah, I liked the anime version of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (though not as much as Paprika) and haven't read the original book, but that's interesting that it sounds like another case of an animated film improving on its source. Half a dozen film adaptations? So the original book was a big-seller in Japan, I'm guessing?

Nice! Even more proof of Superman's dickery! I like his smugness in this one:

Micah, you're right - thanks.
4170 Can comics go in this section too?

See Superman the jerk here

4170 Spacey-awesome! You can threaten to push one another out the airlock when one of you starts to misbehave (assuming that's an airlock behind Veronica).

I think those are clandestine mugs of Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.

4170 Just finished Paprika which was disappointing. Watch the excellent animated film adaptation instead (yes, a film that's better than its source novel)!

4170 A Fire Upon the Deep is a tad on the long side, but otherwise is a very approachable space opera adventure with fascinating alien creatures, epic scenes, and even (thanks to one plot thread on a planet at a medieval stage of technology) a bit of sword-ness mixed in with its laser-ing. There is a sequel, but Fire Upon the Deep works as a standalone.

As suggested earlier, Vonnegut is very approachable (even when the subject matter is dark, dark, dark). Why not his most sci-fi-y and arguably goofiest book, The Sirens of Titan?

That said, I'm interested in many of the suggestions on this thread that I haven't read yet, especially Hyperion (a tad long, but well loved), The Player of Games, The Sparrow, and (to placate Nick) Old Geezer's War (Old Man's War).
4170 I liked the 'future' TED talk on the Weyland Industries site. Didn't take the time sign up to see the 'restricted' sections of the site, anyone done that yet?

As for Aliens quotes, yes, Bill Paxton wins. As well as the "game over" one I also always liked:

"Hey, maybe you haven't been keeping up on current events, but we just got our asses kicked, pal!"

4170 Three cheers for Anne!

4170 That is sad. I had the Empire of the Petal Throne box for awhile and never played it, but it was pretty fascinating to just read through the source book material. I still have a battered paperback of The Man of Gold, I'll try to read that this year.
4170 Haha, yeah the "not-an-Alien-prequel" angle is hard to maintain at this point. But it does look awesome - eagerly awaiting its release.

4170 Very exciting news! And great that the audio is being maintained, too.

I see myself watching several shows on this Feliciaous new network!
