4170 We're a week or so out from the release of William Gibson's new book Agency, and he is in the news all around the intertubes. I always enjoy his books, but he even bring his art and wit to answering questions like these, about his reading habits...

For William Gibson, Seeing the Future Is Easy. But the Past?

4170 Short stories that are part of an anthology or magazine, only available via subscription or registration, or bundled with another work, are not valid book records. See https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

Short stories published online are considered valid book records. See https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

That means, for example, that all the shorts from sites like Tor.com can have their own book record. Every time I've looked up a Tor.com short to mark it read, there has always been a record.

So, there are lots of shorts that can be easily counted, but not all. Since most of the shorts I read fall into this category, it's a pretty simple challenge to take on. My guess is, more people read shorts in anthologies and magazines, so you'll have to decide how you want to count them.

4170 Tatiana Maslany is amazing. Each of the Clone Club members is recognizable in the audio book. These books also have a prose version, but audio is the only way to go here.

4170 I think my favorite read of 2019 was Orphan Black: The Next Chapter by Malka Ann Older and others. I listened to the audio version, ten chapters released weekly and it hit all the right notes.

I read several really good novellas late in the year, Made Things, Sisters of the Vast Black, and Auberon (an Expanse story).

Among the comics I read, the best were Bloom County: Brand Spanking New Day, Bloom County Episode XI: A New Hope, and Bloom County: Best Read on the Throne.

A non-fiction book I read was very educational, Gut: The Inside Story of Our Body’s Most Underrated Organ.

Other books I enjoyed were Jade War, Grey Sister, Holy Sister, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, and of course, The Calculating Stars, The Fated Sky, and the short fiction in the Lady Astronaut universe.

A good year.

Yes, this is a sensible approach for me too.
