In 2021, S&L had 24 nominations for Best Fancast. Of the six podcasts that made the 2021 Hugo ballot, 28 nominations was enough to make the cut, and three of the podcasts were within 10 nominations of S&L. So, it would just take a few more people, and maybe a reminder to V and T to nominate themselves too. ;-)

4170 Americans Reading Fewer Books Than in Past

https://news.gallup.com/poll/388541/a...

Reading appears to be in decline as a favorite way for Americans to spend their free time. In 2020, a few months into the COVID-19 pandemic, when many Americans were still reluctant to leave their homes, Gallup found 6% of U.S. adults naming reading as their favorite way to spend an evening, down from 12% in 2016. Since Gallup first asked the question in 1960, at least 10% of Americans had identified reading as their favorite evening activity in all but one survey.

4170 A series doesn't have to be finished to be nominated for a Hugo. The Expanse was first nominated for Best Series in 2017. The Expanse was nominated again and won the 2020 Hugo for Best Series.

I have a stack of about 30 Star Trek novels that I haven't read, but I keep running across shiny new novels like Quantum of Nightmares coming January 2022.

4170 Still one more day in 2021, but I think I'm done for the year...

I read 91 books, comics, and stories this year. Not as many as previous years. I only completed one of my Sword & Laser challenges:

Sword 23/30
Laser 19/30
Comics 30/24
Shorts 9/24

I had a couple of months this year when reading became difficult, but I finishing up the year with the final novels in several very enjoyable series: Leviathan Falls, King Bullet, Jade Legacy and Risen.

I hope we all have a better 2022.
