You can still register until August 4th and have a chance to win more cool prizes. Log books and/or activities to earn 1000 points total to complete the program, and you'll be entered in a drawing at the end of the program.

We will have prizes and activities, both online and in person.
You can register for the Adult Summer Reading Program beginning June 23rd at http://tcpl.ny03.readsquared.com/. By signing up during June 23-June 30, you will be entered in a raffle for a pair of passes to a 2018 Summer Mainstage Event at the Hangar Theatre!
More great prizes will be raffled off at the end of the program on August 6th. Eligible participants will be those who complete the program by earning 1000 points. Reading a book will earn you 500 points and you can also earn points by participating in activities, such as a face-to-face discussion of the book, "Station Eleven" by Emily St. John Mandel, on Thursday, August 2nd. If you would like to reserve a copy of this book, please email me at jwheatley@tcpl.org.
Happy reading and let the summer begin!
Joyce

We're still working out the kinds with using Goodreads. This is the first time there's a duplicate title on the bookshelf so thanks for the heads-up!
I'll remove the book that is posted by me so you can add yours.
Joyce

Good job adding the book to the Group's bookshelf. Can you add your rating of the book on our bookshelf, too?
The other thing to do is tag it with the "May-mystery-mini-challenge" shelf. This shelf is show on the TCPL 2018 Reading Challenge group's bookshelf on the left hand side of the page.
Thank you!

Read a mystery, write a review, and add it to TCPL’s 2018 Reading Challenge Group Bookshelf to be entered in a random drawing for tickets to ESCAPE ITHACA.
Steps:
1. Add book with rating and review to your own Goodreads page. Put it on your "Read" bookshelf.
2. Come back to this group and add it to this group's bookshelf.
3. Put it on the "May-mystery-mini-challenge bookshelf.
Happy Reading!

The winning reviews were randomly selected from the TCPL 2018 Reading Challenge bookshelf. Participants added titles which linked to their personal reviews. To be eligible for the drawing, books had to qualify as books of or about poetry and/or poets and be tagged "april-poetry-mini-challenge."
Nice work!
Stay tuned for details on our May Mystery Mini-challenge coming soon.
Happy Reading.
The TCPL 2018 Reading Challenge Team

We did not see this coming, and I apologize for those of you who were using that tool.
Please do not continue to post reviews on the Evanced TCPL Reading Program site! I have downloaded all reviews so this will not affect anyone's reading challenge totals at the end of the year.
What’s next?
The good news is that we are going to continue the Reading Challenge. Hopefully, there will be another tool for submitting reviews available soon, but, in the meantime ....
1. Our 2018 TCPL Reading Challenge group on Goodreads remains live. We had planned to stop using Goodreads because it was difficult to share and track books unless one was friends with everyone in the group, but here's a solution.
b. On the right hand side of the group’s home page, click on “Bookshelf.” Then, in the top left corner of the Bookshelf page, search for a title under “Add a book” (This lets you add your books to our Group bookshelf and you get to maintain privacy of your personal Goodreads site.)
c. Provide a rating (1 - 5 stars).
d. Post a review for the book which you added to the Group’s bookshelf. Even if you have already written a review for your personal Goodreads page, you have to repost (copy and paste) it on our group's bookshelf or it will not be considered for the challenge.
e. Tag the book with the monthly category IF you want it to enter the monthly mini-challenge.
2. If you prefer, you can email your review to me at jwheatley@tcpl.org . Please include:
a. Your name
b. The title of the book you are reviewing
c. The author of that book
d. Your rating (1- 5 stars)
e. A short review
f. Include the subject if it meets the criteria for one of the upcoming monthly challenges
If you have trouble or need help with the Goodreads bookshelf, I’m happy to help.
Finally, yes, there is an April Challenge! There will be two winners of a TCPL umbrella selected by random drawing. The category for April is …. Poetry! Read and review books of poetry, biographies of poets, novels on poets, etc. Reviews posted from April 11th through April 30th will be eligible for the drawing.
To get started, explore some of the books on these booklists, Novels on Poets, http://library.booksite.com/6631/nl/?... or Poetry, http://www.tcpl.org/using-library/jus... .
Happy Reading,
The TCPL 2018 Reading Challenge Team

Thanks to everyone who participated in the March Mini-Challenge of our 2018 Adult Reading Program. We called for reviews of books you read in March on the subjects of Women's History, Ireland, and Spring/Renewal and you answered! (Unfortunately, no one reviewed a book, fiction or nonfiction, related to the subject of "basketball.")
Winners were randomly selected from reviews submitted on our Reading Program Site (http://ny.evanced.info/tcpl/sr/homepa...) or on this Goodreads Group.
Each review = 1 chance to win.
Dolina M. wins a brand new copy of "In Praise of Difficult Women" by Karen Kardo for her review of "Great Short Stories by American Women" edited by Candace Ward.
Winners of 1 GB flash drives with TCPL logo are:
1. Travis H. for his review of "Dear Ijeawele or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Women's History)
2. Barbara K. L. for her review of "A Week in Winter" by Maeve Binchy (Ireland)
3. Diane W. for her review of "The Relaxation Response" by Herbert Benson.
Congratulations everyone! You can pick up your prizes at the Information & Learning Services desk in the Library.

Congratulations to K.S. Milligan, winner of the Trivia segment of TCPL's Winter Reading Challenge. She wins a $5.00 gift certificate to Ithaca Bakery for correctly answering Question 3 from the Trivia Jar!
QUESTION: If you exhibit mental confusion, lack of coordination, and slurred speech in cold weather, what are you suffering from?
ANSWER: Hypothermia.

The results are in!
Top reviewers for the 2018 TCPL Winter Reading Challenge are:
Kim RJ - 29 reviews
Dolina M - 23 reviews
Barbara K L - 14 reviews
Each winner receives a Cinemapolis "Movie 5 Pack" generously donated by Cinemapolis for this challenge.
Our yearlong Reading Challenge Program continues with the March "mini-challenge" through March 31st. Submit your reviews on Goodreads, https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/..., or the Reading Challenge Homepage, http://ny.evanced.info/tcpl/sr/homepa.... (Beginning April 1st, reviews will only be accepted through the Reading Challenge homepage.)
Congratulations, Kim, Dolina and Barbara!
Happy reading,
The 2018 TCPL Reading Challenge Team

Just a friendly reminder that you have through Wednesday, March 21st, to submit reviews for the 2018 Winter Reading Challenge. The participant with the most reviews on any topic will win a Cinemapolis 5 movie pass!
After March 21st, the March "mini-challenge" continues through the end of this month. Submit reviews of books you've read for Women's History month to win a copy of "In Praise of Difficult Women" by Karen Kardo. Books can be fiction or nonfiction - history, memoir, etc.
We'll also have a random drawing for 3 TCPL 1GB flash drives from reviews you've written of books that deal with:
1.) Ireland
2.) Basketball and/or
3.) Spring/renewal.
For all mini-challenges, please be sure to mention in your review which category you would place your book. Some are obvious but it helps if you clarify it for us.
For the rest of March, feel free to submit using either the Goodreads group at https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/... or the TCPL Reading Challenge home site at http://ny.evanced.info/tcpl/sr/homepa....
Happy Reading,
The 2018 TCPL Reading Challenge Team

BTW, in an effort to make it easier for you to flag books read and reviewed for the challenges, you can add it to a shelf. For example, for March, you can put this one in "women's history". They're are other shelves for March as well -- "basketball" and "spring/renewal. I'm hoping this method will work better.

It's up to you.
At this point, we're strongly encouraging people to use the 2018 TCPL Reading Challenge site to submit reviews. The link is http://ny.evanced.info/tcpl/sr/homepa....
After March, we may only use that site to pick winners of the challenges.
Goodreads is great for chatting about books, though, and
I've added some new shelves for the March mini-challenge (women's history, basketball, Ireland and renewal.)
Best,
joyce

Welcome to the Reading Challenge! You can add to either site or both sites. It's up to you. The nice thing about Goodreads is that we can chat back and forth about books rather than just adding the ratings and reviews.
Living in Sparta, NC will make it hard for you to pick up any prizes. If you win, you'd have to come to the library in Ithaca for those. We don't mail anything out.
