I'm reading an old Mary Balogh that I picked up from Alibris--the Red Rose. So far (perhaps a third in) I really like it. The heroine has a limp and a chip on her shoulder about it--and the hero is convinced all women are worthless after being betrayed by three. It never ceases to amaze me how deep she went when most Regencies were so shallow...she and Joan Wolf somehow avoided the usual restrictions.

"It's like they're going along just fine, and then the hero will balk in some hard core way that doesn't always feel motivated well enough for me."
I know exactly what you mean, Manda. And sometimes I get really mad at the heroine for putting up with it--I think the worst was Liz and Ethan's story (hope I'm remembering the names right).
"Also, just as an aside, the fertility rates in Fools Gold could give Virgin River a run for its money. A hero just barely looks at a heroine and she can turn up pregnant."
That starts to feel like a great top ten list--most fertile romance series...I'll have to ponder my entries...

Happy anniversary indeed! Thanks so much Manda for starting this group (and indeed for introducing me to goodreads).

Does anyone know what's up with the Monday Puzzler? I don't know the people who were scheduled to post last week or this, so I haven't pm'ed them....

Well of course authors should change and develop . I loved how ms Dare's second trilogy went deeper and became more moving than her first. It's just that this new direction doesn't work quite as well for me .

Reading A lily among thorns and LOVING it. Not at all what I expected. The hero and heroine's interactions constantly surprise me and always ring true. I really liked her debut book but this one is even better. 5 *And I haven't finished it yet!

And I have just realized, 94 pages in, that the title could really refer to either the hero or the heroine. Heh.

I finished A Night to Surrender, which I enjoyed but didn't fall in love with.
I also read Kissing Comfort, by Jo Goodman. She's an autobuy for me, and as always I enjoyed her writing, but I found two parts of this book hard to swallow. The characters' wedding--the 'role in how it happened, and the bride's reaction--didn't ring true to me. Also, the scene at teh end, where three alpha male types stood back and let the heroine defeat the bad guy--just not believable. All three had shown deep protective streaks bout the heroine--and while they knew she was capable I just don' tbelieve they would stand back and let her handle it. Still, any Jo Goodman is a good Jo Goodman. Now I'm reading Kate Moore's Seducing an Angel.

I have finished the book. I enjoyed it, but it felt very different to me than her other books. I missed the creative language use. And I was not fully convinced by the growth of the relationship between the hero and heroine. She's an autobuy for me, and I really liked the chapter from the next book. Still, this was probably a 4 star for me.

That line up sounds good to me, although I am going to suggest Black Hawk by Jo Bourne for March instead of Sarah MacLean.

No, I own a bunch and my library has a bunch.

I've been on a Heyer rereading binge.

That ia great news!

Just 50 pages in. I can't believe how different it is. I am not sure I would recognize it as her voice. It also feels much lighter than her prior books.

I know I haven't read this.

I agree

Rereading the Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie. I've also been on a Balogh rereading binge. She really is amazing.

Hm. I definitely have not read this one. Interesting.

Susan, I really really recommend The Iron Duke. I'm not a steam punk fan--its the only steam punk I've read--but its a great book.

I have been a reading glutton this past week, including Storm's Heart, and the Many Sins of Lord Cameron, both of which I really liked although Storm's Heart ended a little weakly; also the new Sarah Mayberry, the new Karina Bliss, the new Victoria Dahl, Cat, Wild and Steamy (for the Meljean Brook novella)...and maybe I forgot one! (oh, I did read the most recent Susan Mallery Fool's Gold, which I really liked...) I have no idea what I will read the rest of the month...
