I’m so glad you loved it too and that you have such a beautiful memory attached to it! I think I may reread it for this task, as we just inherited a stray and I keep thinking of snippets from that book as she’s been settling into our home.

36119 May Sarton is fantastic...I love her poetry and read her novel, The Fur Person, which was delightful (and short). Turns out she has written quite a few novels and non-fiction as well as her prolific poetic works.

36119 No worries about the repeated read--for some odd reason, when I started re-reading it, I thought I'd read it for last season and it wasn't until I went to post it that I realized it was this season. Since I haven't ever done a re-read that immediately, I'd never given a thought to there being a rule about it. I'll see if I can manage to eke out a finish in the next couple of days with an added book!

My real question is: I found a book in verse (Out of the Dust) that is listed as Juv Fic at BPL, but since it's verse it's got an NP rating on Lexile. Can I use it for PnM2?

(Side note: I read this back in September and claimed it for 20.4...I just finished reading it again to make sure that it was as good as I remembered to suggest it for my IRL book club--it was that good, so I'll be claiming it a third time when I read it *again* sometime in the next few month for that book club)

36119 20.8 Periodic Table

The Bookshop of Yesterdays by Amy Meyerson

I so much wanted to like this book: a treasure hunt, a bookshop and the quirky people you would expect to find there, a family secret--all things I would normally adore.
This, however, fell flat for me. The weak love story was annoyingly distracting; the book-based treasure hunt was irksome in that the girl who is figuring it out is inexplicably unfamiliar with books that are part of the modern lexicon (even if you haven't read them, you're familiar with them and their plot line from seeing movies/hearing references/encountering them in other references); I had figured out the family secret within the first couple of chapters so when the "big reveal" happens I just sighed and whispered, "DUH."
Perhaps I'm being too hard on it because I have read so many exceptional books this season. And it's the author's debut novel so some growing pains are to be expected. I give it 2.75 stars, rounded up to 3.
