35559 My librarian just told me that we passed a measure that means we (my library) will be able to get more new books quicker! Fingers crossed!!! She said they have a bunch of new ones coming in. I'm so excited!!

I'm so jealous. The best thing about my library is that it is directly south of me about 1/2 mile I guess. The main problem is that it shares a parking lot with the library (we call it the library park) and it is now pretty much home to a lot of homeless people. It was turned into a nice park with two bathrooms, but the city began locking to bathroom doors because of the homeless population so it doesn't make it a very good park to take little ones to in case they have to go potty. Of course, there's the library right there but you have to get a key now to use their bathroom. I'm at the library ALL the time so naturally they know me by name and know when they see my face if I have books waiting to pick up etc. But there's no really good spot like you have with swans and water and all that. In fact, the library park used to have water fountains for the kids to play in but that got shut down too. :)

Me too, Erin. I frequented the restaurant for many years and used to go with my mom and dad and sisters when they all lived her. After my Mom died in 2008 both of my sisters moved to Florida :(

Anyway Chubby's moved from one block to my east to one block to my north so still very convenient. They have a larger place now and it's so nice and family run. I took my granddaughter in for dinner one night and she got an interview right then and there and she got hired and has been there for a little over a year now. It makes it nice and gives me a good excuse to eat there. LOL

35559 Yes! My library has the book so I'm reading The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy, #1) by Katherine Arden ! Thanks, Ashley!!

35559 Those both sound good. I still haven't found my book but I might go for The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy, #1) by Katherine Arden . I didn't know that was Russian and I've been wanting to read it.

Yeah, I have many restaurants within 5 miles of me. One is at the end of my street and my granddaughter works there. It's called Chubby's. LOL It's like a 50's diner.
35559 Okay, normally I don't mind a cliffhanger, but not that kind of cliffhanger. What the heck was that? It seems like it's the kind that says you have to buy the next book.

Overall I liked the book, but I felt that the (view spoiler)

35559 Do you participate in other challenge groups besides than this one?
Let's just say an embarrassing number of them! But oh so fun!

Do you usually pre-plan the books you are going to read in any way?
I try but I'm not very good sticking to my plans. I change my mind depending on what I feel like and if my husband will be home or I have to do something I hadn't planned on, etc.

Do you read more than one book at a time?k
I always read more than one at a time with rare exception. Sometimes (like when I just read Heir of Fire) I get so into a book I only read that one.

How are you doing on your Goodreads yearly challenge?
For once I am finished really early! That's because I retired in May 2017 so this year I've had more time to read. I have gone for 200 the past 2-3 years and as of now I'm at 243. :)

What's your favorite reading spot?
Contingent on where I am but literally my very favorite spot is in Hawaii, on the patio, listening to the waves. LOL But that's not a daily thing, SO...I guess I'd have to say on my recliner in the living room where my dog fights my for the leg space. LOL

Do you like any favorite reading snacks or drinks?
I try not to snack when reading but when I do it's raw almonds. My favorite drink is Diet Dr. Pepper but I've gotten away from that for the most part and now I drink mostly water. Oh, and I LOVE going to a restaurant alone when hubs is working and reading while drinking all the coffee I want. LOL
35559 I think I'm just a wee bit late, but I'm going to read the spoilers as I get to them and add my own comments anyway. Sorry everyone!

35559 Yes, I’m out to dinner now but will when I get home. When I signed up I gave them my shelf name and asked you in an earlier post if you needed it. Lol I’d have given it to you a long time ago if I’d known you didn’t have it. Sorry!

Are we allowed one bonus each or just one bonus from the group? Without reading the book, I don't know all of the characters' names; however, on the MPG it lists characters and one is Wylan so should I move my book to the W space? I don't know what I'm doing yet but I'll figure it out OR count on you. LOL

35559 I have added my name and 3 books for week one in the planning SS; however, I don't want to be greedy and take spaces others might need. Is that too many to add at one time?

And just for clarification, we may also use books that have the word "crow" or "crows" Six of Crows in the title. Would that suffice as the "how it fits" or do we still need the author's name or a character etc.? Do we get extra points for using books with the genre crow?

The other genres listed don't include "crow" so the alternatives are other words we can use if we want? Example: Skeleton Creek

I don't mind teenagers trick-or-treating! I taught high school for 25 years and had a lot of students come to my home. When I said "older ones" I meant older ones! Last year I had two adults come to my door, male and female without ANY children at all! I also had 3 BIG teens (?), young men (?), ring my doorbell after all the kids were gone and I literally couldn't tell if they were teens or adults, three TALL big built males so I didn't open the door. It does scare me if I'm home alone as I often am since my husband works until 11:30 PM, if I can't see their faces and they aren't with a big group of other trick-or-treaters, I play it safe.

35559 Welcome everyone! I love these team challenges and a chance to get to know people and continue to develop friendships with others I've already "met."

Erin, I want to make sure you have my shelf because I know I gave it to the MODS when I signed up and I thought I saw it earlier on in this thread but don't see it now. Just checking!

I can access all the Spreadsheets you've posted and I'm excited to start planning!

Question: will you be posting onto the spreadsheets or will we each do our own posts? Also, will we need to do completion posts or will the spreadsheets suffice?

35559 My favorite is Christmas by far! I love watching all the grandkids open their gifts and all the excitement of that, but even more so I enjoy buying gifts for underprivileged children. It’s something that’s important to me even though I already buy for all of my children and grandchildren because there are so many little ones who don’t have the joy of gifts. I’ve taken some of my grandkids when they were young to the Christmas tree at the mall and let them pick a name off the tree and then we shop for their person. It’s a great lesson to teach when they’re young because it IS more blessed to give than receive. They saw children asking for shoes or a coat or underwear and socks, not just toys and many never ask for toys. That was an eye opener for my grandkids.

Thanksgiving is next because it’s family getting together and thinking about and sharing what we’re thankful for. Usually there’s a new addition to the family, someone got a job, someone’s health improved, etc. and we always focus on the people in our lives rather than the things. It’s hard now with both my parents no longer alive because we all miss Dad so much as he always said the blessing for us and led the “what are you thankful for this year?” discussion. But he gave us the tradition and we still honor it.

Halloween? Not so much for me other than going to the church activities to watch my grandkids have fun and get treats. All the masks and not knowing who is behind them scares me. Too many creepy in this world, BUT if it’s little ones dressed up and ringing my doorbell I love it! Just wish the older ones wouldn’t come to my door.
