Yes those memories were lovely and hopefully helped them to heal.
It was so sad that 20 years later she says she still has nightmares and Peeta has to ‘grip the chair’ sometimes. I wonder what kind of help they were offered (or took - she originally refused treatment) for PTSD

🤭🤭 yeah I didn’t think I would ever read it.
But this re-read has me intrigued!!
35559 I finished and I really enjoyed it again.

I had forgotten about those main deaths and perhaps it is because they happen so quickly - blink and you miss it! Not unlike real life I guess rather than in fiction where authors often write much longer, dramatic scenes.

My main criticism of the book is the love triangle. I know it’s YA and that was a “must” of the genre at the time but it always feels a bit contrived that at their ages they can talk about love and forever. Or maybe I’m just too old to remember that I did the same back then 🤭

I wasn’t going to read the prequel but I am now quite keen to read about Snow so I’ve reserved it from the library

I was just thinking that too.
Tigris POV and life would be interesting also

35559 Keri was keen and has lots of options there. I could think those ending in Age or Ten would be good ones to connect

I just want all of you to prepare yourself for what is likely to be the most brutal book of the series so far. Not only did he have to win over twice the tributes (if I remember correctly), in the quarter quell, but the book is likely to provide us readers with the details of what the Capitol does to victors once they win and become mentors.
So gird your loins...."

omg. that would be hard reading.
35559 Cat wrote: "Melindam wrote: "I still like the narrator Tatyana Maslany. :)."

oh! the narrator I had was Carolyn something. Perhaps I changed narrators between the books?"

I have Carolyn McCormick too. Same for book 1 & 2. I don't really think she suits Katniss' voice and I keep flipping back to the kindle version as she makes Katniss more unlikeable somehow

I really liked that scene where she tries to explain to Gale about her prep team and how they don't understand the Games and the impact. This shows real development in her and also how many people would feel the same as Gale. Life just isn't that black and white

It is a good point - although this is a YA Fiction, it is actually exploring some pretty important themes. I am appreciating it more the second time around

They are very binary in their thinking of having to be on the side of the Capitol or the Rebels. I really feel for Peeta as he is in an impossible position - he has to keep showing the face of being on the side of the Capitol but is really unaware of so much of what is happening

This is something I really appreciate about this book.
The idea that you can go to war or topple a corrupt government and everything is sunshine and roses is horse poo. Wherever there is a vacuum people will step in and not for the best.
I understand D13 and the rules, but they are no more free in many ways than they were under the Capitol. And of course, the big question remains if they win the war, then what. The vague idea of a republic needs a lot more consideration and detail

Yes this is a hard one. Some items for me would be things handmade by relatives that have since passed away. Especially using crafts that aren't used much these days (like a ship in a bottle one of my great uncles made)

I agree. Haymitch has become one of my favourites

Leaving Cambodia this afternoon and flying into Bangkok which is our last stop and will be there for 4 days. No plans, so should get some reading done by the pool :)
35559 I’m ready to re-read the conclusion! Now to get the book from my library 😊

35559 សួស្តី – ( “suso-dei” which means hi) from Cambodia

Flew in last night and went zip lining this morning in the Angkor jungle. Headed to a place this afternoon where they train rats to look for land mines and then off to the circus!
Tomorrow is all day at Angkor Wat

It is warm, but rainy season so lovely clouds and occasional rain which is very welcome after Vietnam!

Also hugely expensive here and everything is in USD. So by the time I convert to Aus Dollars and have a small heart attack… it is just as well we are only here for a few days 🤣

Finished a book on the plane which I didn’t enjoy too much so I’ve now started Hot Six for the fun of it :)
