35559 I've finished a few books this week. I'll be able to get through 2 more before the challenge ends. We're slowly catching up to no. 1 place but have no. 2 spot secured.

What's the book that you finished Sarah? And is there a link to the audiobook version you want uploaded? We can pass on the details to the GR librarians in the captains chat for it to be added in

35559 Apologies for my absence everyone. Life got the better of me (bought my first property with my partner and I didn't realise there was so much to do for that, had health issues and way too busy at work)..

I've manage to finally update that I read a few books. I've slotted my books into finishing up Terpichore. Yay!

So now we're just looking to fill up books for Melpomene (tragedy) which should be easy enough!

I'm super impressed with how everyone has gone. You're all amazing (:

35559 Does anyone have a book for "Read a book that takes place in Africa." that they are happy to read for or have already read?

35559 We've finished Echinda and spun Nemean Lion again...

Nemean Lion

Nemean Lion has been seen lounging in the sun on your land after feasting on man. He's hard to defeat, don't underestimate him because he sleeps more than he's awake. Also, don't send Kate Daniels, "here kitty kitty kitty" probably won't turn out as well for her this time.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 350 and 450 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that takes place in Africa.
3.) Read a book where both hands (of one person) are visible on the cover.
4.) Read a book with an open plain landscape on the cover.
5.) Read a book that features a cat (cat shifter accepted).

35559 I finally manage to overcome the cold that I had and went straight into busy work mode. My workplace had a gala ball over the weekend which was lots of fun!

I did manage to read Unbroken (Dark Moon Shifters, #3) by Bella Jacobs and Queen of Quarantine (Brutal Boys of Everlake Prep, #4) by Caroline Peckham and have started Cruel Princes (Princes of Devil's Creek Book 1) by Jillian Frost .

I've been trying to read Wildfire (Sons of Olympus #1) by Sam Burns but it's just not getting to me...
35559 DQ May 19- How Noriko Learned to Love - End of Book

Do not read these if you haven't finished the book. Contains spoilers.

13. In this chapter we get to know Saturo's Aunt Noriko better. What adjectives would you use to describe Noriko's personality? How did you feel about the way Noriko revealed Saturo's birth story? Were you surprised to learn he was adopted?

I was surprised to learn he was adopted.

14. Did you think Nana running off towards the end and living his former life as a stray was fitting for the story. Was it believable that he would come back and forth visiting Saturo in the hospital?

I think it was fitting and is believable that Nana came back to say bye and check in on Satoru. I'd like to think my pets would do that to me.

15. Endings...they must be the second hardest thing to write for authors after beginnings. Did you like the ending? You may consider the Epilogue also when answering the question, if you like.

I think the ending was good. I liked it.

16. The author, Hiro Arikawa, has written other books, with very different genre. She has written books about Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF). (I have to admit I know nothing about that!).
Would you read another book written by her? And lastly, would you recommend this book to others? If so, would you only recommend it to people who you know are cat lovers or would you widely recommend it?

I think I would. It would depend on the genre. I would definitely and have recommended this book to others... anyone really
35559 DQ: 18 May - Sugi and Chikako's Hotel for Pets & Between Friends

9) Considering Satoru seems to be quite perceptive overall, do you think he knew about Sugi’s less charitable feelings about him, both in the past and during this visit?

I missed a bit of this when I was listening to the book. I think he knew though.

10) So far, the chapters have all been combining Satoru and Nana’s journey with Satoru’s past with several other people, as well as their
backgrounds. How do you feel about this interlude (chapter 3.5) focused entirely on the man and his cat? What does it add to the story?

Love it. Anything where the main character is an animal get me emotionally involved.

11) For the first time, we got a hint of what’s going on with Satoru when the dog said “he smells like he isn’t going to make it” in chapter 3,
and this came up again in chapter 3.5. So it sounds like Satoru is ill… was that your prediction for question 4?

Yes definitely. I especially liked the way that we know the cat knows because of their sense of smell. I think it's spot on

12) Squabbles between cats and dogs were really present in these sections. So: Are you a cat person or a dog person or both (or neither)?

I am an animal person. I love them all
35559 DQ: 17 May - The Unsentimental Farmer

5) I really like reading the cat's thoughts. It can be quite funny. Do you think these are convincing cat thoughts?

I would love it if it is! I think sometimes you can tell what your pet is thinking so yes, it's quite convincing.

6) In this chapter we are introduced to Yoshimine, another potential owner for our cat. What do you think of him and his backstory?

I liked him as a character. He took me by surprise with his gardening and his parents. It's sad but at lease he had his grandma who was lovely.

7) Do you think Yoshimine would have been a good owner for Nana ?

I think he would have but Nana wanted to stay with Satoru

8) Yoshimine has already a kitten called Chatran, and Satoru makes fun of him for naming his cat with such a cliché name. What is for you the most cliché cat name(s)? In french it is quite common to call a cat Chaussette (meaning sock), Mistigri or Felix (actually a cat food brand).

Ginger or Cat. My family have had Simba, Peppe, Snowy and Milo so not bad names.
35559 DQs 16 May: Prologue - The Husband Without a Wife

1. How are you liking the way the story is written with its alternating POVs ? Is there a POV you prefer ?

It's nice hearing from the cat's perspective. I listened to the audiobook so the tone and accent they used for the make makes sense.

2. Through the flashbacks we get to know Satoru's personality a bit more. What do you make of him so far ? What did you think about his way of helping his friend Kosuke?

Satoru seems to be a very nice and loving person. I think it would have been a privilege to know him. IT was an interesting way to get the parents to be convinced to have the cat as well!

3. Talking about Kosuke, what's up with his parents ? It seemed to me that Kosuke was genuinely convinced that his father would agree to keep the cat (Hachi). What did you think about his backstory ?

Every parent is different. Some people just aren't animal lovers which is a shame. The dad was pretty harsh though. Hopefully he gets over that and moves forward with his wife.

4. Why do you think Satoru can't take care of Nana anymore ?

I had a feeling that Satoru was unwell. He needs someone to take care of Nana as he won't be around to.
35559 Yes it does! Or as back up for DQ (:

35559 I managed to read a few books and popped them in the spreadsheet.

It’s winter here and so everyone is getting sick and getting each other sick, which I’ve become. Hopefully I’m not too sick that I can’t read

The books have been added into the spreadsheets. If you can add the links to your 3 participation comments, that would be helpful. Otherwise the captains and I can have a look into it
