Books can be started whenever (as long as it was after the games started). Just not finished before the mini starts. The only books with firm start times are for Battles.
Okay, it sounds like 1 to 8 will be easiest to do for all 3. Not surprising but don’t want to assume 🙂
In column H next to the table for the series ladder, I put numbers so it's easier to see what number goes where. Did we want them all to go 1 to 8? I am perfectly fine with that I just wasn't sure what people had on hand

Nice Battle with you all! I think a Draw is the best outcome since both teams are just fantastically awesome.
We'll see you in the next Battle my friends!!
Happy Reading :)

I have a #1 that I really want to read, so that's a done deal. I have a #..."Why don't you start with the 1 and 2s (I'd leave the second #1 spot open for someone else to grab) and we can see what other people have.
Part 2 of the mini is to build 3 walls with windows and a door (side 4).Walls:
These are built with a series ladders of 8 books each. So we start with a book that is in a series, say #3 and go all the way to #10. We cannot skip numbers. We need 3 ladders of 8 books each.
Windows:
We need one book that is point something that fits in our range for the wall. Playing off the example above something like a #5.5 would work because it falls between #3 and #10. We'll need 3 of these.
Door:
We read books read by different teams that were placed in their shelter resource piles. And connect in some way to building the door (door on cover, construction worker as a MC, whatever we can dream up).
Part 1 of the new mini is genre based and pretty straightforward. There are 14 genres and we can fill 3 of each genre (list on the main page on the book's GR page). The genres are:
Non-Fiction
Romance
Science Fiction
Historical Fiction
Mystery
Thriller
Fantasy
Nature
Contemporary
Young Adult
Literary Fiction
Crime
Horror
Yes, the 3 to 5 in series would be very useful. I think 1s and 2s are going to be fairly easy.I'll break down the Round 2 mini at a high level in the next couple posts. It has 2 parts.
Also, for the door books.I'll go through the other teams' sheets and make a reference sheet for books they logged as 'shelter'. Then all of the options will be in one spot and save multiple people from hopping from sheet to sheet.
That'll be in the tracking sheet later today.
Logan wrote: "I've got some #5-9 books I've been meaning to get to so I will focus on those next."Great! I can always find whatever on KU but if people have books they actually want to read, that saves me from reading some potentially horrible books. LOL
One thing we should probably discuss as a team is what series number do we want to start with for each wall?I'm assuming for 2 of the walls we'll probably start with a #1 in series. And maybe we want to do that for all 3 walls. But I do have some slightly higher numbers (like 10) that I have on deck if others do as well. And we can start with a higher number depending on what people have in the tbr.
Also, I locked the formulas on the Shelter tab. People should be able to edit for the genre drop down menu but otherwise you shouldn't be able to edit the cells on the Shelter tab. It will pull the info from the Round 2 tab.If people have issues with the drop down menu, let me know. Since I have permission to edit everything, I can't check to make sure the protections are working as they should be.
The a tab for the Round 2 mini has been added to the tracking sheet. We are limited to 3 books per genre. I have a table tabulating the genres claimed on the side. If we hit more than 3 it'll turn red.
If that happens, let us know and we may be able to find a new spot for it on the mini, use it for a supply drop, or maybe it doesn't get used for the mini (which is completely fine!). Some books can be used for multiple genres so it might just be a simple shuffle.
Let me know if you have questions!
tabs are being added to spreadsheets now, in a little bit I'll have a tab added to our tracking sheet for the mini
Mini challenge for Round 2 is up!Build Your Shelter Mini Challenge
Learn how to make the best shelter
Read books with the following MPG to create your shelter. Your team can read each genre a maximum of 3 times:
Non Fiction
-Specifically focused on survival in extreme conditions, wilderness survival, or emotional and psychological resilience.
Romance
- Use the bed sheets for a tent!
Science Fiction
- To gather some advanced materials for your shelter.
Historical Fiction
- So you can lay the foundations and learn from the past.
Mystery
- Enhancing your problem solving skills.
Thriller
- Create a camoflage and protect against the unknown.
Fantasy
- Enables you to use magical elements to strengthen your shelter.
Nature
- Use the nautural elements to survive in your shelter.
Contemporary
- These will give you new ideas for patterns and methods for creating your shelter.
Young Adult
- No shelter is awkward, and therefore complete, without a love triangle.
Literary Fiction
- You may need to take your time making a shelter, so this genre will help build your patience.
Crime
- They are out to kill you. Use this genre to build a shelter that is protective.
Horror
- Will help you be on alert and create natural alarm systems for your shelter.
Paranormal
- So you can communicate with with spirits and other entities to maintain peace in the shelter.
Create the walls
Create a series ladder for the walls by reading books in a series. You need 8 series book in order (which can include multiple of the same series but doesn't have to) to create each wall. Each series book must be a whole number for the wall.
You are creating up to 3 walls.
You can add in one .5 book (that meet the usual challenge requirements in terms of page count) per wall for windows. The window has to be in the run of the series numbers (you couldn't have 3.5 window in a wall made up of series #5 - #13). Windows have to be within the range of your wall, so if your wall is #2-9 then the window can't be either #1.5 or #9.5.
Example under spoiler:(view spoiler)
Now for the door
Steal shelter books from other teams to make your door.
(This means reading a book another team has already read for their 'shelter' category.)
Get creative about how their book would be a door.
Is it a brown cover and therefore you are using it for your wooden door?
Does it have a door on the cover? That's obvious and not so creative, but, hey it works.
Does it have a character who is a builder? Great - get them to build your door!
You will need 4 books to complete your door.
◈ Every book read, i.e. every task completed, is worth 5 points. Each book can be used for one task only.
◈ Books for tasks can be finished in any order. No need to complete each part in order to get the points.
◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the Book Games challenge (May 15).
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on July 1st 9am UTC
and before July 15th 9am UTC.
◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books from what you are claiming for your main tasks.
◈ The usual book length rules apply.
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
