Anyone can still join that discussion though, Lexi read the book before the challenge and recommended it. Besides, what's not to love about a sentient spider plant?

Oh, I love Devil in Winter. I like that whole series but #3 is my favorite.

Anyone else have some favorite reads from Round 1?

I think my favorite reads of Round 1 were

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches: it was like a hug. Nothing overly original but a nice story of finding your place in the world and found family along the way. A light read but a bit more than just fluff.

and

Daughter of No Worlds. With it being pushed on BookTok my expectations were actually fairly low. But I enjoyed it more than I thought. The author didn't shy away from discussing some tough topics. And it was nice that the FMC didn't immediately learn a new language in like a day and be able to communicate without complications in the new country she found herself in. There were certainly some pacing issues but overall I was pleasantly surprised.

I know a lot of people love that series. I tried but couldn't get into it. I think I started with the audio and the FMC was super annoying.

I'm glad the series gets better the more you get into it. A lot of series go the other way!!
