35559 Attention Please!!

Hi Everyone!

Since the mini-challenges were a hoot, we've decided to expand the party! So for each month, there will be a theme running for most of it. Just read a book that fits the rules for that month and you're done. But don't worry - there will still be mini-challenges running too without any change. To spice things up a bit, we have devised a point system.

1. Each book you read for the monthly or mini-challenge will get one point.
2. If it meets both the monthly and the on-going mini-challenge requirement, then the book will get TWO points.

We will keep records of the books and the totals will be posted at the end of the challenge period. The winner will get to decide the next month's challenge.

Note: Winners of the mini-challenge will decide the next mini-challenge. There is no change to this.
35559 I get purplish vibe actually!

Leslie, the In Death series is very good. I'm amazed NR has been able to sustain it with so many books!
35559 Melissa, that doesn't look like red to me, Sorry!
35559 Nope, it actually has 164 pages not 168. I just didn't notice the number of pages. My fault.
35559 Oh, dang it. It looked like it was more. I'm blaming it on the book - it's longer than the English counterparts. Oh well. Thanks for catching that,LK!
35559 Is this a red cover: Yavanika by Sujatha ?
35559 Oh no, Marla! I hate it when that happens. Maybe you could put it on hold? Get through one by one with another book that you are enjoying.
35559 Luckily, I'm enjoying Gardens more even though I feel like I've been dropped in the middle of the world with little explanation.

Katie, I started off reading along with the group but I'm too sick to answer the qns and just participate. I can appreciate the silliness but it is just too long winded for my taste. I will finish the book because I want to see how it ends. I hope it gets better then too!
35559 I'll start on the mammoth that is Gardens of the Moon (The Malazan Book of the Fallen, #1) by Steven Erikson . Also reading Good Omens The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Neil Gaiman which I am not enjoying that much. I fail to see what is hilarious :(
35559 I finished Maisie Dobbs (Maisie Dobbs, #1) by Jacqueline Winspear yesterday. The WW era was so realistically portrayed. The mystery part was weak but I'm interested in continuing the series.

I've started Present Danger by Susan Andersen for another challenge. I'll be starting His Very Own Girl by Carrie Lofty as its also set in a WW period.

35559 Lol! Love that jpeg LK!
35559 Thanks, Rebecca! Good to know. I know I skimmed the first few pages in the library first but it didn't really grab me. I was in the middle of a slump then and I was looking for a book to take me out of it. I'll be giving it another try though!

Rebecca wrote: "I think Gone Girl is one of those books you either really like or you really don't. I am one of the ones who really liked it but it was more about the discussion points afterwards. One warning - I found the first 40 pages really slow but then suddenly it starts to pick up."
35559 I have Gone Girl on my tbr too. But I'm not sure if I will like that genre. I've heard all the characters are unlikeable!
35559 Finished off Codex Alrea series by Jim Butcher. Maybe it's because I read it back to back but I was a little bit disappointed in the series. It was just a little too nice for my taste. Tavi was too near-perfect. Guess I expected a little more from Butcher.

I've started The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski for a buddy read. It's going ok so far.
35559 No worries, Michelle! Good luck with School!
35559 @Michelle - I totally understand! I tried to start the second book but I just kept putting it down for other books. I may have to give it another attempt.

@Rachel - Great update! The margin of difference between the other teams and us is something we can easily overcome. So go team!
35559 Tea - I think there's another participant called Tia. That might be the reason but I could be wrong.
35559 Leslie & Melissa - good luck with aDwD. I really need to continue with the series. I've read the first but haven't progressed beyond that, unfortunately.
35559 I started Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series last week of December and now I'm planning to finishing it. It's a epic fantasy and so far, it's really good. The biggest plus point is the world building. It's damn good. Though I wouldn't say it's a negative, I wish Butcher created a more flawed lead character. Tavi is like almost perfect. He becomes almost-perfect. So far, this year I've finished up books 2, 3 & 4. Two more to go and all of them are chunksters. Can we get a reward for finishing chunksters? Pretty please? *Puppy Eyes*

Off to start Princeps' Fury (Codex Alera, #5) by Jim Butcher
35559 OK folks - I was checking the team totals and we are at the bottom with 31 books. Team A has some 50+ books already! Has all of us signed up to the challenge widget and tagged the books to the correct shelf? Let's get reading.
