Vi’s comments from the Nothing But Reading Challenges group.

I finished yesterday. It was ok - a lot violent but I felt some of it was done only for shock value which I didn't appreciate. I'm not sure if I want to continue this series (even though it has great reviews). Thankfully, this too was a BR so I could comment along with different people. Planning to start for a BR today.

Tiffany, I think you can add educational textbooks but I'm not 100% sure. I'm sure Karen will confirm.

I finished it a couple of days back and I'm still a bit torn about.

NancyHelen, like others said, read through. There are certain twists that explains a bit of what Jorg did.

(view spoiler)[Ok, so Corian modified his memory. But does that explain his raping? Not to me. Even if the setting is medieval and all that, he's still only 14. I can accept he was damaged, undergone a trauma but that doesn't mean he had to be rapist. I feel like the author had added it as a shock value. I can get behind the revenge plot somewhat but not behind a rapist. This is my major peeve in the story. (hide spoiler)]

I'm not sure if I want to continue the series given my issues with Jorg.

I'm starting it tomorrow. I didn't get any reading done today.

I just finished earlier today. It was a BR. I haven't had much GR time nor reading time as I'm having a steady influx of guests. Everybody's excited to meet my daughter.

I'm also reading but it's a BR in another group so I won't get BR points *sad face*

I'm running a little late. I'm planning to start it tomorrow. Has anybody started this?

I'm upto chapter 16. It's slow going since I'm doing two BR at the same time.

I like reading the backstory of Jorg. Like NancyHelen says, it gives quite an explanation but does not justify it. But I'm definitely intrigued by his motives.

NancyHelen - It's true about the world. His tutor for example sounds like chinese to me? The author is probably using the same geography, time etc but the kingdom looks to be fictional.

I don't have any dates planned actually. Anytime after next week will work for me. Would 25 November work due everyone? Or sometime in December?

Sure, I don't mind February. It's been on my TBR forever and so highly recommended. I'm just glad I have somebody to discuss it with.

yep, I've read which I actually liked despite the violence. It's definitely dark but not as much as this. I've also read the Night Angel trilogy by Brent weeks (Starts with ) which features an assassin hero. That was my first dark fantasy. I haven't read much more.

I'm only 10% in and I have to say, Jorg is nearing towards a villain than a anti-hero. He is really distasteful (to be polite). So much so that I've considered DNF-ing. (view spoiler)[He's also a rapist. And a sexist rapist at that (hide spoiler)]. I'll check back in when I read more.

I haven't done much of a reading update so here goes:

I've finished = I really liked it but probably not as much I expected to. But that's a very fine thing to nitpick on. I'm definitely continuing the series because I want to know what Locke & Jean are upto. And also Sabetha!

- a very ok, meh read for me. The book was a glorified Historical PNR because there was no proper world that I could see. Definitely no steampunk. The romance was annoying (insta-love + no communication). Very disappointing. I'm glad I did it as a BR because I got to mini-rant :P (and also I got 30 more points)

Now I'm reading - very dark fantasy. It's also a BR. I'm reserving comments as I'm still very early into it.
