Oops, I missed the chatter and everything. It was cleaning day today (which I hate) and I just got time to log in.
I'm from India, currently living in Singapore. I used to work but I'm a SAHM now to a 6 month old. Needless to say, life's a bit hectic. I have been a lifelong reader - both my parents are so I've had all the encouragement from them. Singapore's a great enabler too. The library collection here is just so great and with lot of branches. I read mostly on my Kindle but I'm trying out audio now.
TC, I wish I was good at crafting/knitting etc. My mother's excellent at them but sadly, I don't have the aptitude.

Lol! Hi Karen! Hi TC! I can see the spreadsheet.
Hi Team! Glad to be on another team challenge. I can't wait for it to start.

I missed the sign-ups for the last game. So glad I didn't it this time.

Hi Leslie! So glad to be back!!
I like Perfectly Passionate Pirates too!

Hi Team! Some familiar and new people! I can't wait to start the game even though I'm hazy with the details.
I'm horrible with names but I can vote on the names :)

I'm in!

The number of books you read a year. 200+ (I'm expecting this year to be 50% less around 120)
2.
Your top five favorite genres from the ones listed above.CO - Contemporary
HF - Historical Fiction
FA - Fantasy
S - Suspense
NA - New Adult
3.
Whether or not you are willing to be Captain.Sorry, not this time around.

Rebecca, I second Leslie. Thank you for the hard work you've put in. You really are the best!!
I have a family function today and tomorrow so I'll be MIA till Friday. I'm sure we'll hit 1350 before then. Way to go, Moonstone!!

For some reason I would *freak* out when I would see books with 500+ pages. I actually own a lot of the big book series - Outlander, T..."I totally get this, Rebecca. Most fantasy series are like 800++ pages long and it's just so tiring to think of having such a hard commitment. Especially with series like Wheel of Time which has some mixed/lukewarm reviews for books later on. I mean, if it was 300+ pages, then you wouldn't mind so much. On the other hand, I have read some gems and discovered new favorite authors that way so it's like a toss-up.

Wow!! Way to go, team!! We might just finish the challenge this week!

Thanks, Catherine!! Diwali was awesome. I'm still recovering from it.
I've been a very mood reading phase the past few weeks. I'm now in a romance - historical (for now) phase. I finished up
(LK's rec) which I loved and also finished up my impulse borrow
from the library. AQ is always a comfort author.
I also started Leslie's rec
but It felt too intense for me and I had to put it down. This is an example of my very weird mood-reading. I'm now eyeing
and
- not sure which to start.

It's been ages since I did an update. Diwali is just a day away and it's been busy here. But, I have been reading..
I finished up
earlier today. I had cover lust and just HAD to read it. It's an interesting fantasy set-up. The starting was awkward and the MC, Sorcha was not that easy to like initially (and we are in her PoV a lot) but the book picked up considerable once we got to know her and the other MC, Raed & Merrick. It looks be a good start to a new series and I'm definitely picking up the next book.
And I've also *finally* started
- it was hard to do anything else but I just had time to pick this up. Now, I just need the rest of the world to forget about me for a while..

Congrats, Leslie & Melissa!! Way to go!

Leslie, glad you're having a great time!!
I've been doing nothing but reading for the past three days and I surpassed even my expectation (admittedly low)
I finished up three fun books -
,
&
. It was refreshing to read them after the Malazan series books. A really easy way to pass the time.
Also finished
which should count as TT. I loved this book! The book is very character driven. Even though I didn't like some of the characters, I couldn't stop myself reading. The world-building was done really well by the author. I'm
so checking out more of her books.
The most interesting fact is the bigger book took me atleast 1.5 times for me to read as the two shorter ones. I wonder what that says about me or the book..

Since I haven't done a book update in a while:
Finished
- it was ok. Looks like the series is going to an action-packed fantasy types. The book picks up right after the first and it wasn't as slow as that. Since the world etc are pretty much established, we sort of dive into the events. So far, in both the books Raine & Co has been reacting to the events instead of pro-active. I hope that changes in the upcoming books. There hasn't been much of character development for Raine but I'm really looking forward to that. The major gripe is the Love Triangle is still going strong. Hope they resolve it soon.
I finally finished
. The sixth book in Malazan Tale and I can't wait to see how Erikson coverges all the events that happened so far in the remaining 4 books. Good news is that this is a CCC which should earn us 3 more BAPs.

Happy Birthday, Catherine!!

Hi Team!! I'm checking in after a long time. I'm at my mom's place and our Dussera festival just ended yesterday. I should be more active now.
Great Job, Rebecca & Catherine!! I love both of your stories!

Good Morning, Team!! My RL is really busy with visitors and reading, GR time has taken a backseat. I think I'm having withdrawal!
I haven't had much reading done lately but I manged to squeeze in 2 hours today(which was more time than last week). I finished off
today. I liked it - a fantasy book with UF like female lead. I find the world and the characters intriguing even though the book had the beginning of the dreaded Love Triangle. The biggest drawback was that the starting half was slow paced and I kept putting the book down. I'm definitely picking up the next in series.
I'm flying back to my mother's home tomorrow and I might not get to check in for a couple of days. I hope everybody's kicking butts in the October Challenge!

Wasn't Kat Martin a recent FAC at RRRC? How's her books, Leslie? I totally forgot to try her out..
It's Oct 4 here already but there is still nearly 13 hours to go for the Challenge start time :( :( So close yet SO FAR!

Oh, anytime after 26 is busy-time. Close to Diwali which means visiting time. I'll try to join in by starting early so I have time to participate.

I've managed to finish only ONE book this week so far -
. I had such high hopes for this book due to the reviews that said the subject matter (rape) was dealt very tactfully. It was but the writing irritated me too much.
The uber main thing was that the characters really smirked a lot. Every other page had this usage of smirk. I really wished the author would have looked up the meaning of smirk. Otherwise, I could just say the book didn't move me as much as it did others. And it also falls into the new NA trend where the next book is from the PoV of the male lead. Essentially the same book. I don't understand this NA trend at all.
I'm sort of getting a YA/NA fatigue - all these mediocre books is translating to a book fatigue too. So to revive myself, going back to my favorite - Western Genre with
. I have high hopes!
