1. Books nominated after the deadline will not be included in the polls. Sorry.
2. Each person is limited to nominating ONE book per category.

Over in the Cleaning out the closet challenge in 2018 we started talking...

Your know those MASSIVE books that you want to read, but everything else gets in the way?

Well we decided that perhaps the best way to tackle this problem is to pick a book and read it together over a year. So 2019 was the year of Les Misérables, 2020 was War and Peace, 2021 Gone with the Wind and 2022 Pillars of the Earth!

After nominating books and then voting for 2023, the winner is Ship of Magic!

Anyone is welcome to join. This is essentially an extremely long buddy read :)

There is a reading schedule below to show which chapters to read over a two month period and we will also have two break months ; meaning the read will last the whole year.

To participate, all you need to do is come on over and give your thoughts for the section you are reading. Please make it clear which section you are referring to, and if you are reading ahead of the schedule, put your comments in spoiler tags.

c.800 pages? 35+ hours of audio?! Meh! We got this! Let the Reading Begin!

Post questions here. But remember, use common sense and don't overthink tasks. This is just for a bit of fun!

The ancient Greeks are known for their tragedies and no tragedy is complete without a good monster. For good to triumph and a Hero to be born, there first must be an evil to vanquish and a wrong to right.

Below is the randomizing wheel for Greek Monsters. To start, spin 5 times to get your first 5 monsters. If you get a repeated monster remember you can respin for a replacement.

1.) Each monster has a set of required tasks that must be completed in order to vanquish the monster.

2.) Books can be used to complete more than one task, but only for the same monster. If you can find a single book that meets all five tasks, congratulations, you defeated the monster with just one book! Expect other teams to notice this and copy your choice ;)

3.) Teams/individuals can have up to 5 monsters to vanquish at any time.

4.) Monsters are assigned at random and may be repeated by the same team/individual.

5.) We like players to be creative, that's what makes this fun. However, please do not hurt yourself over thinking the tasks. If there still is some indecision, post in the Q&A thread or just find a different book.

6.) Once you vanquish a monster and get a replacement it should be considered locked and you cannot swap out books.

Back by popular demand, the Wheel O'Monsters mini challenge from Tower Team 9: The Muses is now up for a self directed challenge. You can do this as an individual or as a small group of fellow Goodread adventurers (aka your friends).

To start there is a wheel of Greek Monsters. Each individual/team will start off with 5 monsters selected at random by spinning the wheel. Monsters can be repeated as many times as you'd like, but if you already have a given monster as one of your 5, you can respin for a different one.

Periodically wheels for other monster types will be added to allow for some variety. Any wheel can be spun to replace a vanquished monster.

To start, make a thread for you/your team, copy the spreadsheet template (if you want to use it), and spin the wheel to get your first 5 monsters. Then start the battle!

Thanks!
I did check that, but my brain clearly thought December was right as it is the month we are currently in ;)
