since our next word is cobweb i could use the winter long for that if we end up not really needing it for the first week. we were going to use it for potion in text but mage lessons has that too so i've still got us covered. i guess i could wait and see where we are on saturday morning and we can decide if it's better to use it this week or save it for a W?

i'll be starting thursday [got too many halloween books to finish lol] and this one works for either week of wheelathon for me so i'll probably decide later whether i want to finish it saturday morning or wait until the time changes over in the afternoon.
the team captains post the points to the spreadsheets so i assume they just haven't been on or are waiting until we have a few more to start putting them in

Unholy Night by Seth Grahame-Smith
From the author of the New York Times bestselling Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, comes UNHOLY NIGHT, the next evolution in dark historical revisionism.
They're an iconic part of history's most celebrated birth. But what do we really know about the Three Kings of the Nativity, besides the fact that they followed a star to Bethlehem bearing strange gifts? The Bible has little to say about this enigmatic trio. But leave it to Seth Grahame-Smith, the brilliant and twisted mind behind Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to take a little mystery, bend a little history, and weave an epic tale.
In Grahame-Smith's telling, the so-called "Three Wise Men" are infamous thieves, led by the dark, murderous Balthazar. After a daring escape from Herod's prison, they stumble upon the famous manger and its newborn king. The last thing Balthazar needs is to be slowed down by young Joseph, Mary and their infant. But when Herod's men begin to slaughter the first born in Judea, he has no choice but to help them escape to Egypt.
It's the beginning of an adventure that will see them fight the last magical creatures of the Old Testament; cross paths with biblical figures like Pontius Pilate and John the Baptist; and finally deliver them to Egypt. It may just be the greatest story never told.

fits the theme because it is a historical fiction retelling of part of the Christmas story
Title and Author: Moon Called by Patricia Briggs
Date Read: 10/28/18
Rating: 2.5 / 3
Page Total: 288
Spell-Out Letters: P: patricia briggs [author] and T: mercy thompson [character]
Bonus Options: none that i noticed
i'm reading two anthologies so those probably won't be done until wednesday because i can generally just read a few stories at a time with those. i also started moon called earlier which is pretty good so far. i got distracted by the new season of castlevania though so i'll have to get back to reading later
for week one i've gotCreatures: The Legacy of Frankenstein: The Legacy of Frankenstein - covers N and T with authors
Nyota's Tyrannosaur - covers N with title
Mage Lessons - covers I with author name
Moon Called - covers P with author name [note, I may end up DNFing this because I've been doing that a lot with urban fantasy lately but I'll let you guys know and then find something else to fill in it if that happens]
Deathwish - covers T with author name and P and N with character names
The Winter Long - covers O and T with character names and has poison in the book text
i will probably be able to squeeze one more in but i've not decided what it will be yet so maybe i'll wait and see which letters we are needing more of
i'm glad we can use books that we have started during previous weeks of the challenge though, when i read anything over 400 pages i just drag my feet horribly lol so if i tackle any long ones they will probably not get done within a single week

i don't know if anyone here has seen bojack horseman [new season came out recently so it reminded me] but there's a dog on there named mr. peanut butter and that's basically how i inadvertently picture madden even though it's not even mildly accurate except for the personality lol
ok i was just asking because i have one that's got like ten authors so we could definitely use it for several of the letters if we can pick any author to use

haha Tybalt reacting to the hairless cat was great. Also interesting to see Madden now and have a fairy dog to compare to our fairy cats. I love how Arden is like 'how can you stand to hang around cats' and October feels pretty much the same way about the dogs [gotta say I'm probably with October on this one, I can't take that relentless enthusiasm and need for praise for long lol]also re: Toby's blood. I think that (view spoiler)
Also if you just click on the part at the top of the Goodreads page that says like (October Daye #whatever) after the title then it takes you to a listing of all the short stories and where they fit into the series. I definitely have missed a bunch of them because I don't think she had actually written all of them last time I started this series.
for anthologies are we allowed to use any of the authors for the spell it out or does it need to be the first author listed or the editor?

also apparently there's like a million Patreon-only stories about Tybalt between this book and the next one? I've read Forbid the Sea bc I found a download of it years ago but I might need to figure out how Patreon works if it gets me access to extra Tybalt content lol

I finished today as well. One of the reveals that I thought was in this book apparently actually wasn't. It was something they learn at the library so I assumed it was here but apparently they go back later lolQuentin's parents though! Glad that that is finally out in the open. There's a short story later where Toby actually meets them that is pretty fun.
And I agree that I generally don't like the no killing rule. I mean for one it doesn't include everyone so it's automatically bullshit but 1. sometimes you just need to permanently get rid of someone and 2. often the things they actually do are in my opinion worse than killing so like ...just get it over with. Also the whole ~Oberon's Law~ thing and he abandoned them centuries ago so like why are you still going by that???
