35559 I'm going to read Library of Souls (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, #3) by Ransom Riggs - it was on Louise's read shelf and she read it Jun 20 so it works for the time period we need.

35559 That's hilarious Louise - of course it comes up now.

I'm kind of the mind that at least a full chorus of a song has to be in the book. A lot of fantasy books (at least the epic ones) have songs in them. Sometimes Stephen King will have a few lyrics to songs in his "interludes" between book parts or chapters. Also, in the Katniss books (my mind is blanking on the title) there are songs.

That being said I'm up for looking for a song, but afraid I won't find cut corners anywhere (unless I find it like Louise did).

35559 I loved that book!

35559 I like the sound of Stop 3 detours too - we should have tons of books to look at between all of us. The rest of the detours coming up look sort of difficult:

Read a book with the phrase "Cut corners" in a book - NOPE!
Read a novel with a song in it - NOPE!
Read a book which has the main location (setting) as a cold/frozen country/world - MAYBE??
Read a book with a Poker term in title (e.g.Raise, Call, Bluff, Deal, Dealer, House) - MAYBE??
Read a book that has a bully - MAYBE??

35559 Sorry I've been gone guys. I'm back and will look again for books that work for this challenge and try to catch up. Can you hang in Round 3 until I catch up to you?

35559 I just posted them. Thanks!
35559 Day 1 DQs

1. In this world, women are not able to become tailors or inherit their father's business. It reminds me of the Victorian era in England (like Jane Austen times). Maia is a very talented tailor but cannot be that as a woman. Would you go to the lengths she did to hide her identity in order to fulfill her destiny? Can you think of any other women in history that had to do that?

2. I felt so bad for Maia when someone ruined her shawl, but I loved that the magic scissors brought it back to life. Who do you think ruined her shawl? What else do you think those scissors can do? Did you anticipate that happening?

3. There was a hawk that was following the carriage when Maia is taken to the palace, and that same hawk shows up outside Maia's window later on. Who do you think the hawk is? Is it the Lord Enchanter?

4. Do you think the Lord Enchanter suspects that Maia is a girl and not a boy? I wonder because of his comment about her feet being so small and dainty.

5. I love the world building that has gone on so far. It feels like a real place to me. What is your favorite aspect of the book so far?

35559 It's just the title, that's what the detour says and it's pretty specific. Sorry :(
