35559 Krystal, I didn't even know Jack Layton had a book! I don't normally read books written by politicians but it would might be interesting to see his thoughts. I can understand the wait. :)

35559 Since I'm just starting in the Dystopia genre I'm trying to work my way up to godliness that is The Hunger Games. Divergent seems like a solid story but I can understand how difficult it is within such a strong genre to find books that will live up to past experiences. Sometimes you can also just like a book/series without liking the genre overall. :)

35559 Carol, I just added Divergent to my list last week and it's great to see everyone has something good to say about it!

35559 Sashana, I hope you enjoy Lola and the Boy Next Door! I just spent an all nighter finishing it yesterday and it was the best.

I went to the library today and have had another one of those hauls. I've smartened up though and brought my wheelie bag with me so I didn't have to kill myself on the walk home.

I've also gone kind of hold crazy this month! My library gives each lender 50 free holds for the calender year. Every hold after 50 must be paid for (something like $0.50 each). Since I just got my card a couple months ago I have all these holds left! So, I've started planning ahead for 2012 and am putting holds out on items that are on order or have a seriously long line!

35559 I think this is my third trip to the library in two weeks. And It's only going to get worse when I start going there to do school work.
Books Currently on Loan Total: 12 (new) + 7 (at home) = 19
Thankfully because I've only been at this library for 3 months my account has a cap at 20 books so I'm cut off for now. *starts to twitch*

Check Out:

I'm just going to see how many of these actually get read, or have to get returned before I even get a chance.

BAH! So sorry, Sashana! I need to pay more attention when I'm typing! Consider me properly flustered by my mistake. >_<

35559 That is so awesome Rachel Sashana! I'm glad to hear that you got you're hands on Night Circus, waiting in line can be sooo painstaking. :D

35559 Brand spankn' new library just opened this month less then a 20 minuet walk away from my house. It's like walking into a bookstore! Almost everything is a newly ordered book, which makes me so very, very happy.

35559 For me I have to be in the 'mood' to listen to an audio book, in the same way I have to be in the right mind set to read different genres. I go back and forth, one day I'll love, next day I just won't be into it anymore.

You just have to remember that some books translate better then others. Use your best judgment in choosing what you might be more interested in hearing rather then just reading.

I definitely recommend that people try it out! I have yet to come across any terribly bad audio books.

35559 Graphic novel wise, there are a lot of really great ones out there, but it's all about choosing a genre and art style you find appealing. Or as I do, randomly picking up anything within arms reach that looks pretty. :D I definitely recommend the medium.
Jul 26, 2011 02:25AM

35559 I am on such a graphic novel binge and this library haul only sort of proves that.
Scott Pilgrim vs The Universe (Scott Pilgrim, #5) by Bryan Lee O'Malley Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour (Scott Pilgrim, #6) by Bryan Lee O'Malley Once a Witch (Witch, #1) by Carolyn MacCullough Fruits Basket, Volume 12 by Natsuki Takaya The Complete Essex County by Jeff Lemire

I'm so excited to be finally completely read the Scott Pilgrim series!
While browsing I also came across Essex County which is another graphic novel that I've never seen before but it has this very unique art style and a seriously amazing cover.

35559 Thanks Danielle, I'll definitely keep that in mind! It is great to get the warning ahead of time, I always wondered why Wicked got so much attention instead of the series overall.
I will have to go back though and find Wicked when I have the time!

How are you liking the Wicked Series?
I loved the writing of the first book but at the time I tried to read it I was too young to really get into the story and had to stop half way through. Thinking of picking it back up but I haven't heard much about the other books in the series!

Thanks for the well wishes! It really is one of those times where great moms need to be appreciated, especially with her having to listen to me complain every few minuets!
Jun 11, 2011 03:31PM

35559 Over the last few days I've gotten the flu and now all of my requests have suddenly started to pile up and come in all at once! So I've sent my mom out to pick everything up because if I don't by a certain day I get a $1.00 fine per day left on the shelf. *zombie nosies*

I completely forgot about Pretty Little Liars! Which is weird since I've been thinking about picking the books up. I take it as a fan that you enjoyed the series?

I think I've actually seen the Earthsea adaptation, but I don't really remember it. However, I do remember hearing people rave about the books and having a major case of deja vu not knowing it was a book series. :) The link is really interesting though, I've always been curious about how the original content creators factor into production and just WOW.

35559 Books become movies, it is the natural although not always successful order of the entertainment world.
Most recently however we are seeing multiple books turning away from the movies and becoming successful TV shows with shows like A Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Boardwalk Empire, Gossip Girl, Bones based off Kathy Reichs, and Darkly Dreaming Dexter all on our television screens.

To my surprise, although I consider this jump a new trend in TV, looking back into my own watching history I remembered shows like The Women's Murder Club based on 1st to Die(2007-2008), Legend of the Seeker loosely based off The Sword of Truth (2008-2010), and Blood Ties based off of Blood Price (2007-2008)

We are even seeing a lot of the visa-versa with TV shows having there own book series after the fact such as with Supernatural, Monk, Psych, Castle, Stargate, etc.

This is rather a broad topic but I was wondering what other people thought about this book to TV trend.
- Would you rather see your favourite books transformed onto the small screen or the big screen?
- Would watching a TV show based on a book make you pick up the book it was based on?
- Can you think of any past or current shows I may have missed?
- Why do you think some book to TV show adaptations are more successful than others?
