I liked the multiple subplots and the fact that they all tied together in the end. Reichs did a great job with the story-craft and pace. That being said, I think the ending needed a little work. It was hard to envision Chance and Hannah doing what they did and playing the roles they played. Hannah wasn't very believable, but maybe it was because I didn't pay attention to her description in the beginning settings. I guess it fits. I just can't see a 14 year old plotting murder and everything else with her future father in law. It's too creepy and gross. We can talk about it more in detail, but I think if I'm dissatisfied with anything, it's that.
I have more to say, but I'll stick with mentioning those things for now.
But I agree, overall, I enjoyed the book and the story itself. If I don't continue the series, I won't feel like I'm missing out, but if others want to buddy read again or if I'm in the mood for a young adult mystery, I may come back to it.

Girl Waits with Gun
A novel based on the forgotten true story of one of the nation’s first female deputy sheriffs.
Constance Kopp doesn’t quite fit the mold. She towers over most men, has no interest in marriage or domestic affairs, and has been isolated from the world since a family secret sent her and her sisters into hiding fifteen years ago. One day a belligerent and powerful silk factory owner runs down their buggy, and a dispute over damages turns into a war of bricks, bullets, and threats as he unleashes his gang on their family farm. When the sheriff enlists her help in convicting the men, Constance is forced to confront her past and defend her family — and she does it in a way that few women of 1914 would have dared.

The Rest of Us Just Live Here
What if you aren’t the Chosen One?
The one who’s supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death?
What if you’re like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school. Again.
Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week’s end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.
Even if your best friend is worshipped by mountain lions...

(Single woman perspective) Men can be jerks though. :P
But I watched 10 Things I Hate About You and felt better. :)
