35559 Oh, Marie, here's me feeling sorry for myself for our two month bathrooms renovation. That is pants. I hope everything gets sorted quickly.

35559 Thank you for moving my book. Things are all kinds of crazy here. I hope to be getting back into the swing of things.

35559 I'm feeling you, Marie. Look after yourself. And read at a pace that pleases you and doesn't add stress.

35559 Unfortunately, I read the Secret History not that long ago and I refuse to read anymore cozies (except the Flavia de Luce series). Cozy mysteries make me very very very annoyed. So no BOM contributions from me this month.

35559 I listened to A Psalm for the Wild-Built and don't have a reference location but a search turned up the following. It seemed like too much to put on the spreadsheet.

Potato or bean in text
"...potatoes, frilly cabbage, a hearty scoop of blue beans to get some protein in there."

Bread and fish in text
"endless agrarian delights to be distracted by: wine, bread, honey, raw wool, dyed yarn, fresh bouquets, flower crowns, aquaponic fish and pastured poultry in chests of ice, speckled eggs in cushioned boxes, fruit cordials, leafy greens,"

Onion
"onion and melting butter mingled deliciously."

Apple
 “The what?” “Apple spiders. "

Salt
"... salt and trail dust from their skin felt luxurious.'

Sugar
"... sugar or something they weren't getting enough of..."

Spice
"... spice, fresh nectar, laundry drying in the pristine air. "

35559 I started to add Network Effect for round one, but I think I'll save it for round 2. It has the letters needed. So my last book will be Ninth House.

35559 Ugh, these notifications, or lack thereof, are annoying the heck out of me. If I tick my groups, it gives me EVERYTHING from the group, stuff I've never even seen. If I untick, I get nothing. Why did they mess with it? So, it is now about remembering every challenge and ticking "notify" on each discussion.

35559 My numbers 48 & 49 were Gone with the Wind (Vintage Classics) by Margaret Mitchell & We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson respectively.
I've rated both three stars but might put Gone with the Wind down to two. I got that when it was the yearly tome choice, but I failed to read along. I started but got sidetracked. Pillars of the Earth is still waiting, too. Since this year's tome didn't appeal, I thought it was the perfect time to read Gone. I was so very disappointed with it. I loved the movie and a kid, but this feels so different. This was full of racist whiners! I hated every single character. EVERY SINGLE ONE! I'm afraid to rewatch the film, just in case my memories are tarnished. I knew they were racist, they're slave owners. I knew they were deluded, again happily keeping humans in bondage. I just wasn't prepared for how whiny they all were. That combined with the racism was just too much.
And We Have Always Lived in the Castle was pretty good, but it was tense. I am not a fan of tense. When I get anxious, I find it hard to enjoy the book. The book doesn’t always need to be happy. I read a lot of not particularly happy books and enjoys them. Well, i get something out of them, but if the entire thing is one big ball of suspense, no thanks.
I'm hoping my #50 will be better.

35559 Hi all. I think I have played on a team with nearly all of you at some point.
I live in England. I read a few books a week. I might read more than I claimed on the official sheet as I am trying to read as much as I can for Turf Wars. But we can use the best 5.
I'm excited to play and win with y'all.

I didn't reach my goal the first two years I joined this challenge either. Like Marla said it's about getting reading. Plus, deleting books from your tbr counts. Since my goal count is so low, I don’t include deleted books officially, but I always count them mentally. And the years I didn't "read" my goal, i still felt achievement because any cleaning up of the tbr is the aim.

35559 Sammy, I am feeling you on the NHS. If you need emergency surgery, the NHS is awesome. When my daughter had a cvst they were amazing, but she has been waiting for two years to have anything done for her jaw. We've broken down and gone private. Coming from America and having to pay for medical, I will choose the NHS every time. Fingers crossed it can be repaired and run more efficiently.

35559 Yay, Sammy! It's amazing how many of you have had surgery on your feet.
I, too, am a sneaker gal. Though in winter, I have these amazing sheepskin boots. They have zero arch support, but they are so very warn. And I have these super cool that I wear spring and fall. They are the closest I get to a "heel." 😂
