35559 I really need to get into discworld. I am loving my Ilona Andrews, though. It’s exactly what i needed. I am being bad at finishing up books atm. I have another 100pages on my Mae West, so I decided instead to start The Paper Magician. Why finish a book when you can start new ones. 🙄

35559 Mel, I hope you feel better soon. I think I’m just coming down with something.

No KayLynn, it is literally called Ebola. Well, Ebola: The Natural and Human History of a Deadly Virus. It’s about the outbreak in gabon.

35559 Okay read date added. Little update on reading, so I know where I am at. Been so busy lately, I miss the days of doing nothing.
Will have Cats Cradle done tomorrow and Mae West biography Friday. I’m going to sneak in an Ilona Andrews cos I need something like that right now, then I will start either my Ebola book or Orchard of Lost Souls, both of which are hard countries (I think). This is my weekly plan, but who knows.

35559 I had poker Friday night and went to a bday party last night. Came 2nd in poker. The winner has asked that I deduct the £5 off her next set of nails. So though I’m out, I also don’t feel like I’m out. The birthday was a Ceilidh, so I got to pop my petticoat on and dance about. It was good fun. Did manage to finish a book yesterday too. Awesome weekend.
Glad you’re all having good, if quite warm, weekends. 😊😊

35559 I just bought the Sword of Kaigen. I couldn’t get my hands on the June BOMs without paying, and I didn’t want to use my credit for them. They didn’t fit any other of my challenges. But this one fits two other challenges. Bonus.

My fave books in round one were People of the Book and The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida. Both were so engrossing and excellent in their storytelling.

My least favourite were One Dark Window and Demon Hunting in Dixie. One was more style over substance. When the author could have explored the interesting aspects of her book, she chose to focus on the insipid romance. Plus, everything devolved into the juvenile. Demon Hunting was just pants. Cringey sex scenes, and the most over the top Southernness. The only things missing were mint juleps and the term “vapors”

Andy, I love Nerdforge! Her dioramas are amazing. But it was her leather bookbinding that brought me to her page. My bookbinding hasn’t quite reached her creative level, I’m much more traditional but my minds aims to be. I have a ripped butter soft red leather jacket that has a hole in the shoulder, which I keep for book binding.
Anyway, great link!

As an English reader only, which book would you say is a good first book to read by him?

35559 What is the What turned out to be pretty decent. I still only gave it 3.5 stars rounded down. It was such a slooooooow start and the way it was told kind of annoyed me at first. He’s telling it to people doing him wrong btw. But once I accepted the format and he started telling it in earnest, it got better. But South Sudan is off my list.

35559 Can I use What is the What for South Sudan? The audio is 20hr 29mins and they reach Ethiopia at just about the halfway mark. There was 10hrs and 45 mins left.
I’ve done the math and it is the equivalent of 11pgs.

I love the way Becky Chambers writes. Long Way was a fun space ride. Book two is very different and only one character from book one is in two, if memory serves.

35559 Slight change of plan. I just can’t do What Is the What right now. It’s not bad, just not as engaging as I had hoped.
I am loving the People of the Book. I will have to read some more Geraldine Brooks. Her way of writing is so easy and engaging.
I’m behind on With the Old Breed. That is down to too much playing on my phone. But also because, like What is the What, it’s just a little dry. So trying to read those two at the same time was putting me to sleep. But I will finish that one. I’ll read a fun book for my final one before the end of the round.
