35559 Thanks Sandy but I'm stubbornly plodding through this bland and overly descriptive narration of a small town life leading up to WW1.

35559 Started reading. Hope I can finish it on time. The writing style is very monotonous.

Which anthology is it? Normally you can use the author names within an anthology, but editors aren't mentioned in the spellout rule..."

The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities New Stories About Mythic Heroes by Rick Riordan edited by Rick Riordan who also contributed a story about Irish mythical hero. So I can use his name as one of the authors?

35559 Just added The Skeleton in the Closet to the spreadsheet.
35559 DQ Day 5
starts: "Vimes landed in damp straw..."

17. So the dungeon was not quite what I expected. And Lord Vetinari was utterly relaxed while being supposedly incarcerated, and waited on by rats no less. Who would have thought? What do you make of the man?

He isn't supposed to be good or bad. He is a ruthless politician who doesn't seem to have any moral but has mastered at managing everything.

18. Turns out that Errol was the hero everyone had been waiting for! Interesting pairing though. Do you think we're ever going to see Errol again? Maybe accompanied by some offspring?
No idea but I hope so.

19. Lady Ramkin is a force to be reckoned with! Defies the city dressed in nothing but a nightshirt... Vimes is quite right in thinking that society won't know what hit it. Has your opinion of the lady changed perhaps? The first mention of her was to call her "mental" and then she was about to be sacrificed to the dragon, a dragon she then defends. Do you think she really is mental or just a woman who is very sure about what is right and wrong?
Lady Sybil is level headed and a strong moral character. Because she doesn't adheres to the normal representation of society lady people think she is mental. She is very compassionate about the dragons therefore she tried to protect it from the horde of people who wanted to kill it.

20. Overall, was it an ending you expected? Did you enjoy the book? Was there a favorite scene or quote maybe?
A five star read for me and after Mort my second Discworld favorite .
There are so many.
Loved the scenes that involved Carrot. His unadulterated perspective on everything was a joy to read.
Vimes in the dungeons with Lord Vetinari.
Vimes coming for Sybil's rescue.
Carrot, Nobby and Colon on the roof top working out one in a million chance of hitting a dragon with an arrow.
Carrot arresting the dragon.
Errol and the dragon's scenes.
Nobby and Colon thinking about rescuing Carrot from the pool.
And many more ....

35559 DQs - Day 4

13. Nobby, Colon, Vimes, Carrot – they all sure do have their charms. Who’s your favorite member of the City Watch and why?

They all add more color and growth to the story but Vimes and Carrot are my favorite.
Vimes for his cynicism and standing up for the right thing.
Carrot for being charming and innocent.

14. Carrot – I’ve been really enjoying his letters to his mother, especially the PS. Is he ever going to return to the dwarves and reunite with Minty? How would you see that going down?
I'm not going to speculate about Carrot and Minty but I don't want him to leave Ankh-Morpork and go back to being a 'dwarf'.

15. Will Colon, Nobby and Carrot succeed with their plan? Do they even have a plan? Or is a hero going to show up to save the day after all?
Read the book ...

16. There’s quite a few things going on that could be tied up (or not) by the end of the book. Other than a potential solution to the dragon problem, what else do you expect from the ending?
I some what got what I was expecting : Sybil and Vimes.
35559 DQs- Day 3

9. If you were confronted with Lord Mountjoy Quickfang Winterforth IV’s ominously rumbling tummy and the prospect of more dragon fire, how would you react?
Not sure I would have stuck around as long as the mob leader did!

Definitely ran for cover. It's confounding how Sybil is managing to look after so many of them.

10. If you witnessed a massive dragon being vanquished in one sword hit, would you entirely believe it or do you think you may hold suspicions on the “neatness”? I think I would wonder about the lack of dragon lumps.
Of course it was suspicious. It's so easy to fool Ankh-Morporkians.

11. This section cemented my love for Lady Sybil, with her no-nonsense stern reproach of the dragon. If she had maintained eye contact, do you think her approach would have worked?
It might have because Lady Sybil herself is a force of nature.

12. Since the beginning of the book, has your opinion on Captain Vimes changed? If so, why?
In the beginning I saw him as a drunk and incompetent person but as the story progressed his character also went through change bringing his better characteristics to light. At the end I was completely enamored by him.
