Yay, Shelby!

I got picked for writing second day DQs for Mort. I've never done DQs before and I'm so nervous.
35559 DQs Day 2

Starting with a Bonus question...
“They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it is not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.” (Granny said)
First off, who are “they”? I have always wanted to know. Secondly, do you agree with “them”?

"They" are the ones with wisdom, the thinkers of Discworld. Ans I agree with them

5. Esk went ahead and did not follow Granny’s advice, and thought since she had a feeling she could get into the bird’s brain, then why not do it.
When you were a kid, did you jump off the swing, or touch the hotburner? If so, give us examples.
Do you think she learned something from it, or are we looking at shades of her future University life?

Oh yes, had lots of injuries. I was tomboyish and loved to get into fights.
Esk is always learning from her experiences but she will continue to push her boundaries as she is quite daring child.

6. What do you think of Hilda and her version of Headology? What do you think of Headology in general?
I like the concept of headology. It's used often in real life. Hilda is rowdy and her usage of headology is nothing new. To see it happen in a book was quite fun though
7. Esk finds herself on a moving barge. Loved loved loved the resume of talents beyond washing and sweeping that Esk rattles off in an attempt to stay on the boat. What skills could you bring to the barge?
Apart from cooking and cleaning I'm not sure I'm good at anything else. Oh wait I can tell stories!

8. Speaking of the barge, what do you think of Esk’s decision to just leave Granny? Did she mean to leave on her own adventure, or was it an accident? Do you think her matter of fact attitude is a product of her magic, or just her personality or upbringing?
I think it was an accident. Readers sometimes forget how young she is and kids tend to get lost and wander about. I think it's part her personality and part magic. She is headstrong that's why magic choose her by guiding the dying wizard towards her. And she knows she has help from her magical staff
35559 DQs - Day 1

1. If you are new or relatively new to Discworld, what do you think of Pratchett’s world and writing style so far? For more experienced Pratchett readers, what are your favorite things about his writing style or Discworld in general?
I started this year with The Color of Magic and Good Omens and became a fan. I love Pratchett's witty style and how he fuses humor and satire with serious subjects like politics, religion and social injustice.

2. So we have our plucky heroine Esk and her witchy mentor Granny Weatherwax. What do you think of our two main characters and their relationship with each other?
Both characters compliment each other very well. Even though Granny herself claimed that she was at a loss when dealing with children but as she started mentoring Esk we can see how good she is with handing Esk, who is a curious and quite headstrong girl. And Esk is not afraid of asking questions and pushing the boundaries. They have an open and beautiful relation as a mentor and pupil.

3. A major theme is witch magic vs. wizard magic (and women vs. men), and I can’t wait to learn more about these different magical theories and world views. What do you think of this dynamic, and which type of magic are you more drawn to?
Well, we haven't seen much of Wizard magic in the first part of our reading. What I got is that Wizard magic is more to do with logic and theory and it deals with bigger dynamics of the Discworld like astronomy and different dimensions... Whereas Witch magic is more grounded and deals with the common issues of everyday life. It's useful and nurturing. I'm looking forward to knowing more about different magical aspects.

4. Oh dear. Esk went a bit too far with the borrowing. What do you think is going to happen next? And what will Granny say or do?
Esk is going to learn a good lesson about knowing your limits and boundaries. Granny herself is quite eccentric, she is not worried about Esk.

Bonus: I am really enjoying Pratchett’s wit so far. What is your favorite quote from this first bit? Mine is:
“What’s an elephant?”
“A kind of badger,” said Granny. She hadn’t maintained forest-credibility for forty years by ever admitting ignorance.

I laughed so hard when I read that!
One I really liked is, "But as you grow older you'ill find most people don't set foot outside their own head much."

35559 Samantha wrote: "Augh! Reading a series out of order drives me nuts but I've heard it really doesn't matter for Discworld."

Everyone told me not to start from the first book and I got like 8 different recommendations. Terry Pratchett is a brilliant writer, you can start from anywhere and not feel lost. None of the books are connected except the first two.

35559 Reading Pyramids (Discworld, #7) by Terry Pratchett Discworld #7. My OCD won't let me read out of order so I had to start with the first book The Color of Magic. It's a great series!

35559 Hi, everyone!
My name is Sana and I'm in Asia. I read nearly everything except non fiction. Paranormal romance and urban fantasy are my favorite genres. I'm usually a fast reader.
It's my first time taking part in TT. I started this year with Discworld and have become a huge TP fan. I finished Wryd Sisters (Discworld #6) a few weeks ago. That's when I found about this challenge. So, here I am and really excited to be doing this with you all.
