I'm home! Alaska was unbelievable.Feel free to bask in the glory of our trip if you want. Every minute was the best.

I'm alive! I have about 2 seconds of internet time left as we head out of Ketchikan. I'll quickly update my books and post on Sunday. Off to Victoria B.C. tomorrow and then home Monday. Alaska has been amazing. Words can't describe it.
Ok, finally started

Started last night. Weird so far.1. What do you think about the POV? Does it draw you in or push you away? It's not quite in 2nd person, but it's much more direct than most 1st persons, even ones that break the reader wall. Do you feel Joe is talking to Beck, to you the reader, or both -- are you supposed to identify as Beck?
I actually hadn't thought of identifying as Beck. Interesting perspective--great thought. I was picturing it as Joe's inner monologue that we all have running inside of us. The crazy things we think only to ourselves.
2. Many times books are set in first person to make it easier to emphasize with the narrator. Do you have sympathy for him? Do you feel you understand why he feels the way he does? Would it be easier or harder if you saw him from outside?
Empathy? No. I'm not sure I can understand his obsession with her. But I do think we have some thoughts that we would never want anyone to know.
3. Is Joe an unreliable narrator? He's clearly delusional in some ways; how deep do you think that goes? Do you trust him that he's really doing everything he reports?
UNRELIABLE. for sure. We are only getting his perspective. I do think he's doing all of the crazy things he is reporting. But with his spin, like the dialogue in the bookstore was through his memories, not necessarily reality.
4. What do you expect from this book? What made you decide to read it? Do you expect it to have the beats of a thriller, or does the adventurous point of view change your expectations?
I am a little creeped out by Joe, so far. He's strange. We'll see.

I do the same (shelve when I start reading). It's just sometimes the date read doesn't seem to stick when I finish, so I try to double-check.
I have updated our spreadsheet. Take a look at your book list and make sure everything you have read is shelved properly, on your tower teams shelf and with a date read.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
I have that on the list for my vacation. I've owned it forever and just haven't gotten around to reading it.
When I feel that way, I go back to something I have re-read 100 times, too! It happens to all of us, Zee. Usually when life is crazy outside of reading, I have to pause and read one of my guilty pleasure books to reset my clock.
Got the discussion question links added!Just a reminder to you all...I will be in Alaska all next week and won't really be online, but you will be in LaurLa's capable hands!
I will try to check in a little if I can, but not sure. :)
