35559 DQ: 18 May - Sugi and Chikako's Hotel for Pets & Between Friends

9) Considering Satoru seems to be quite perceptive overall, do you think he knew about Sugi’s less charitable feelings about him, both in the past and during this visit?

I think Satoru is a loving and gracious person who sees the best in everyone. I don't think he saw anything less than friendship from Sugi.

10) So far, the chapters have all been combining Satoru and Nana’s journey with Satoru’s past with several other people, as well as their backgrounds. How do you feel about this interlude (chapter 3.5) focused entirely on the man and his cat? What does it add to the story?

I liked the parts that were narrated by Nana and enjoyed their journey together. I don't care as much for the backstory parts.

11) For the first time, we got a hint of what’s going on with Satoru when the dog said “he smells like he isn’t going to make it” in chapter 3, and this came up again in chapter 3.5. So it sounds like Satoru is ill… was that your prediction for question 4?

Yes

12) Squabbles between cats and dogs were really present in these sections. So: Are you a cat person or a dog person or both (or neither)?

I'm a dog person who is also owned by a cat (that I inherited from my mother.) I loved the way the animals spoke to each other.
35559 DQ: 17 May - The Unsentimental Farmer

5) I really like reading the cat's thoughts. It can be quite funny. Do you think these are convincing cat thoughts?

I'm always wondering what my cat is thinking and saying in her head. I love Nana's commentary and it wouldn't surprise me at all that a cat would think these things.

6) In this chapter we are introduced to Yoshimine, another potential owner for our cat. What do you think of him and his backstory?

Hearing has back story made me more sympathetic towards him, but I still didn't particularly like him.

7) Do you think Yoshimine would have been a good owner for Nana ?

Not really. Nana is used to being part of a family, and although he would survive and be treated okay, it wouldn't be the same.

8) Yoshimine has already a kitten called Chatran, and Satoru makes fun of him for naming his cat with such a cliché name. What is for you the most cliché cat name(s)? In french it is quite common to call a cat Chaussette (meaning sock), Mistigri or Felix (actually a cat food brand).

Mittens
35559 DQs 16 May: Prologue - The Husband Without a Wife

1. How are you liking the way the story is written with its alternating POVs ? Is there a POV you prefer ?

I prefer the cat's POV - I like his snark! I'm listening to the audiobook, so sometimes it's hard to distinguish between Satoru and Kosuke.

2. Through the flashbacks we get to know Satoru's personality a bit more. What do you make of him so far ? What did you think about his way of helping his friend Kosuke?

He seems like a kind and thoughtful person.

3. Talking about Kosuke, what's up with his parents ? It seemed to me that Kosuke was genuinely convinced that his father would agree to keep the cat (Hachi). What did you think about his backstory ?

Well, his dad is pretty unpleasant. There was a mention of how his dad was nice to everyone except his family. I don't think it's too unusual, though, and it doesn't sound like he's abusive. More of a bully who wants to get his way with his family.

4. Why do you think Satoru can't take care of Nana anymore ?

I think he's probably sick and possibly dying.

35559 Yay - The Travelling Cat Chronicles came in through Overdrive. I've got next month's reads on hold - not sure if they'll come in on time. None of them are books I'd typically read (the one Pat didn't like was more my wheelhouse LOL :-)) but I'll try almost anything for a challenge.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Anything fun going on?

35559 I'm a mood reader for the most part, but I'm somtimes at the whim of when my books become available through Overdrive, which I borrow from a lot. And then, of course, specific books needed for challenges. I go back and forth with doing SRC and I've even finished a few times. But over the past year or so there seem to be more and more tasks that are pretty specific needing books that I'm just not interested in. That's why I love TT so much!!!

35559 Hi!!
I'm Sandy and I live near Los Angeles. This is my 6th time doing TT and something I always look forward to. I have a golden retriever and 1-1/2 cats. For work, I'm a tax preparer and am finally recovering from a crazy tax season - I'm so anxious to get back to having more time to read (although I'm still working, just part time now.) I help run a dog rescue and now that work has slowed down I'm looking forward to fostering again. I read mostly romance, although doing challenges makes me pick up other genres.

A couple of books I enjoyed over the past six months or so

Great and Precious Things
The Things We Leave Unfinished
both by Rebecca Yarros

Two of my favorite authors that I love to re-read during challenges like TT are Kristen Ashley and Mariana Zapata - and they both write longer books which is a bonus!!

My shelf: TT-9

35559 Hi - can anyone tell me if there is a reward for the Kitchen quest (under House Quests)? Is it just having a kitchen? Or is there anything else that comes along with it

Thanks!!

35559 It's been great reading with everyone! And thanks Lexi & Sophie for all your work captaining.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and I look forward to the next NBRC challenge!

PS - Does it take everyone else at least a week to stop searching for letters as you read? :-)

35559 I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Is there a short-cut or trick to search through tags, as opposed to looking through every page of them for a book?

35559 I hope it's not too late - I forgot to add my last book earlier this morning. Just updated the spreasheet now

35559 Happy Thanksgiving to those in the US!!

I'm making a Dream Pie - it's very easy and so yummy!! I also made cherry fold-overs last night (like pie but easier.) I'm not a fan of pumpkin pie either, Maddy, and it's a difficult pie to make on top of it.

My sister is making the turkey and all the fixin's so I just get to smell the goodness all day while it's cooking and then enjoy. Although since I don't cook, I get to clean up.
