At our synagogue, we found 3 prayer books from the late 1700s and 1800s, originally from Austria or Germany. Someone must have taken them to Australia at some point and probably donated them or just left them in the bookcase when they didn't need them anymore or upgraded. They were just among other general books. They're being restored now as the paper is so brittle.
I love old books!!

We did a big house clean in the last month and that included the massive bookcase that is double deep (as in 2 books behind each other on each shelf). We got rid of a few books, which we put in a bag to one day be taken to a Free Little library. It's been a month, the books are still in the bag. My daughter has already gone through the bag again and taken a few out to read, then put them back after she was done. We really struggle to get rid of books!!

Mortifying our children is an important job as a parent! How can one call themselves a parent if they don't embarrass their kids?! I'm at the level that just me existing is embarrassing to my kids. I love it

I hear you. Lots of Mandarin speakers here in Melbourne too!! It would definitely ease things up with the International students we see from China. That's one language I just won't even attempt though, too difficult.
I've been wanting to learn Auslan (Australian sign language) but haven't gotten myself to signing up yet.
Brittany wrote: "I used to be able to speak Mandarin fluently, but I'm super rusty now"Whoah! That's super hard because it's a tonal language. You easily say a different word just by changing the tone of the word. Amazing!! What made you learn Mandarin?

They're so excited to speak English and the kids start speaking English at such a young age!! All their TV programs are in English so they grow up with the language around them.
How awesome you're going to Denmark!! I have visited the country when I still lived in Europe. It's beautiful
Danish is such an interesting language. Not a lot of people will choose to learn that unless it's for a specific reason, like in your case. I can read English, Dutch and German with reasonable ease, but I'm definitely the fastest in English. If I get some time to puzzle things out, then I can make my way through French, Italian and Spanish. My daughter is learning Dutch at the moment on Duolingo, an online language app. She keeps coming to me with random things like "Ik wil boterham met kaas" (I want a cheese sandwich). She's got the pronunciation pretty spot on though.Over the COVID lockdowns, my husband did Spanish on Duolingo. I'd hear him on the toilet talking to a Spanish lady LOL, turned out to be Duolingo.

oh yeah! Truly. I remember the first time I was introduced to space/fantasy/monsters smut (it was so bad!!)...that was years ago and I will still bring that up as the worst and best experience ever in a NBRC challenge LOL
Hi team!I am a bit late to the intros, sorry. I have been unwell and getting towards the end of it now, just in time for Book Games.
I am Chava from Melbourne in Australia, but I was born in the Netherlands, so, hoi hoi Anouschka! :)
I am a wife and mum of 4 (1 girl, 3 boys). I work full-time as a social worker and psychotherapist in a specialist sexual assault & trauma service. So, hi to Brigia my fellow psychotherapist :). Congrats on the baby!!
Hi to Lisa, Eldarwen, & Karen, so nice to play with you again!!
I look forward to getting to know the others who I haven't met yet!
I've played Uno, Towers, Wheel, and probably a few others. I've been out of the big games for a bit but now I'm back as I started a new job in March that has me drive an hour each way. An hour is perfect to get through an audiobook at double speed!
Favourite colour: purple, pink and azure blue
Train travel: I used the train all the time living in the Netherlands (I left 25+ yrs ago though). My train story is I took the train from Sydney to Brisbane as my then-boyfriend wanted to save money. The seats were super hard, it was a trip of 13 or so hours and I had broken my tailbone a few weeks before falling down the stairs. It was total torture and I've never taken a long train trip again :)
My favourite genres to read are mystery/thriller. I will read anything to win
Look forward to playing with you all
