35559 The site for color covers has been deemed “the site which must not be named”. We are to go with common sense and if you think it is close ask and we can take to the captain’s group.

35559 The favorites come from the sign up form. We had to list two of our favorite books when we signed up.

35559 If you haven't seen this already head on over to this thread and post 1 to 3 of your most hated reads. I suspect that this will play into a mini later in the challenge.

Terrible recommendations: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

35559 I've added an example of how we would like to format the completion posts for books you have read. I picked a book I recently read and used it for the example.

You can find that in this post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

35559 No problem. I’ll try and keep it updated as new suggestions come in.

I have 4 or 5 books I want to try and finish before the 7th. Since I’m part way through all of them so I’m hoping it is possible. I probably won’t finish them all though. Three are nonfiction and I always read that slower than fiction.

35559 I am also very wary of mass recommendations. As I’ve hated books others love. From Team Superbia here.

1. Sing, Unburied, Sing - I really do not understand why people liked this book. All the characters were unlikable (on purpose it seemed) the plot was a car trip with lots of vomit. This book just made me frustrated and then the end was just the last straw. I’m still annoyed I read this entire book and DNF it 5 pages in.

2. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - So I read this with my dad as a kid and I thought it was stupid. I was a kid so I get to think it was stupid. Then my high school English class was given a choice read this or The Good Earth. I picked The Good Earth. Everyone else picked Huckleberry Finn. And after I finished The Good Earth the teacher decided I should also read Huckleberry Finn. I hated it. The characters just annoyed me. The story annoyed me. I agreed with little kid me it was stupid.

3. Daughter of Smoke & Bone - This is an odd one for me as I liked the first part of the book when I was reading it. I did not like the last part at all. Then when I finished the book I wondered what did I just read and why did I read this? It felt flat and the characters didn’t seem real when I thought about it. And since then I’ve read a few other things from the author and I think it is just her writing.

I’m so glad you mentioned Moby-Dick I was going to mention it. The descriptions just hit you over the head. I get it alright white=death. And then introducing new characters right at the end. Oh this book made me very angry, but then I enjoyed being annoyed with it so much that I gave it two stars.

35559 I highly recommend Shogun. It was amazing. It felt a little like some of the epic fantasy is scope but it is historical fiction.

35559 Sin bingo is not required. It does get more points for the team but read what you want to read.

35559 It should take you to the beginning of the thread. There are a list of books in my first post.

35559 I also like having everything all in one place so that works out nicely.

35559 That works, unless you are listening to the audiobook and it has a blue cover and the default edition has cover with no dominant color and we want the points for the color cover. If that comes up though let us know.

Sheila, you can post the audiobook version to your shelf, and use the default version for the page count. Default is the edition that comes up when you search the book.

35559 The team sheet is view only for all but captains and is only for finished books. I don’t know if we thought about a working ss or book read thread.

For right now with planning please use this thread or your own system.

35559 I'm adding a list of sin bingo or possible sin bingo books in this post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I'll keep working on getting more books on there throughout the day.

Update: I now have all the books from the captain's group in the post. If you have any other books to suggest for Sin Bingo please post them and I'll add them to the list.

35559 If you assign for color or genre or sin bingo you get the normal points for greed. It is only if you use the sin third option, which is a catch all, that you do not get the one point you do with other sins.

35559 I am planning to read the backroom BOM. I have a hold on Gideon the Ninth but I’m not sure about it. Wilder Girls counts for sin bingo, so I’m going to try and read it. Depends on my library though.

35559 Paula posted three ways to meet each sin in one of the first posts. Sin bingo is meeting all three parts color, genre, and description. The anything goes sin you only need to meet color and genre.
