Day 3 - July 4- 42%-64%- (edited to correct percentages)13. Thoughts on Viv telling Mrs. White that her husband cheats on her. Do you think this is what gets her into trouble?
I think this will come into light later. I think Viv is trying to connect the dots and this is one way of finding out if the husband is up to more no good.
14. We have another encounter with the angry man ( this makes at least 3) Who is he? Why is he important to the story?
I haven't figured out who he is yet but I think as we keep reading he's going to play an even bigger part of the story.
15. Which story line (Carly or Viv's ) are you enjoying more? Why?
I'm liking Carly's story-line. She's trying to figure out what has happened to Viv. I think Viv's story-line gives us the background information but ultimately Carly's is going to flush everything out.
16. The ending of this section just raises more questions for me. If Viv buys a knife, didn't she get a chance to use it?
Where is the knife? Was it mentioned in the police reports? What do you think?
Oh, I think she does something with that knife. I don't know why it's not mentioned in police reports. Something bad is going to happen.

6.) This section opens with some spooky stuff going on. If you saw literal ghosts in the creepy place you worked, would you split right away? Would you of left with sketchy-past Nick? Would you go back to work or think the overnight creep factor was making you see things that weren't really there?Okay, I would probably leave and not come back. That place gives me the creeps. Also, I'm not so sure about Nick. What if he has some sort of connection with the creepiness. I would not have left with him. If I went back to work, I would want a friend there with me.
7.) Viv listens to guests' phone conversations. There is the saying 'people who eavesdrop are seldom happy with what they hear'. Or something close to that anyway. Do you think she may over hear something that results in her disappearance? Would you listen in if you were Viv?
I think something is going to happen because of this. I know she was curious and I think she probably wanted to find out something about the guests so that's why she listened but I feel it's bad juju.
8.) There really have been several deaths of young women in Fell, especially factoring in the size of the town. Do you think they are all connected? Connected to Viv's disappearance? Do you buy into the police stance of no connection between any of them?
I think there is some sort of connection. I think we are dealing with a serial killer but maybe 2 of them working together?
9.) What do you think of the complete laxness of management and staff at The Sun Down Motel? Anyone else wonder how the heck that place is still open? And more importantly, why?
I think the easy access to the interstate plays in to why it's still open. I don't know if the ghosts will let it close down?
10.) Any thoughts on the candy machine? It keeps popping up in both timelines. Maybe nothing, but in this type of story, who knows.
That candy machine has some sort of power but I really haven't figured it out yet.
11.) Marnie and Callum are interesting additions to the character line-up, thoughts? Did you think it was strange that Marnie won't talk with Carly? Callum local nice boy-helper dude or creeper
I think Marnie wants to stay hidden and alone for fear that she may be next. I haven't developed thoughts on Callum yet. I think he's generally trying to be a helper but at the same time maybe that's a show?
Angie ☯ wrote: "Anna - that book was recommended by both our team and another team I think. If you want to save the Mystery task."Thanks! I will go change that right now. I know I've been trying to save some of the easier ones but now I'm running into the fact that I've read so many books where do I put them all?!?
I'm finally getting to Sun Down Motel. It doesn't fit any of the things I need it to fit for the Olympics but I want the bonus points. I'm also reading it in the sections of the questions so I really have no idea what is going to happen. I have tons of books lined up for the next 7ish days so I'll figure out where they fit in regards to time.

Day 1 DQ's: 0-21% (ends "he opened the door.")1. The Sundown Motel...what a perfect name for a motel! Have you ever stayed at a motel before...something like the Sundown? What was the name of the motel...Any interesting experiences come of that?
I don't think I've ever actually stayed in a real motel. I could've stayed at one when I was younger but I don't recall. I think one of my favorite inn/hotel experiences would be in the smokey mountains. I love old inns with rocking chairs and fireplaces in the winter time. They are just cozy.
2. Viv is young and working alone. I don't think I would tolerate my daughter doing anything of the sort. What were you thinking from the 1st few pages? Viv comments..."Being with people was easy, but being alone was hard. Especially along in the dark. The person who could be truly alone, in the company of no one but oneself and one's own thought--that person was stronger than anyone else. More ready. More prepared."
I'm not sure if I would want to be left alone in the dark. That just sounds like all sorts of bad news about to happen. I think the last line is a hint of things to come.
3. What do you think the significance of the door to number 103 banging open/shut is?
I'm wondering if something bad happened in that room. It's interesting because it's the 200 rooms for Carly.
4. So far Carly's mom's reaction to seeing the newspaper clipping..."Vivian is dead" has really bothered me. What's your take? Have you already solved the case? Is Vivian dead?
I think it's the author's way of preparing us for more to come. I have no idea what is about to happen. I'm not even sure if Vivian is really dead or not.
5. What did you think about the dual timeline between Viv and Carly? In what ways are Viv and Carly very similar? How are they different?
I like the dual timelines because it helps us learn more about the characters and time periods. The one thing that I notice that is different is which door is slamming. Also, both are young women working the night shift and both new to town.
Yes, I was going to suggest Libby also. I listen to audiobooks from there all the time. I can't speed the books up as fast as audible but it's still a pretty good speed. I'm lucky that I live in a metropolitan area sandwiched between two states so I have access to 4 libraries and it has helped wonders, especially with the new releases or most popular books.
Once I get my books finished tonight, I know I have two left on the spreadsheet for the next 3 days but I'll also try to find an X book. I know we need that letter in a couple places. Cool, I'll have to go check that sale out. I'm currently listening to an audiobook working on computer stuff.
Hehehe well we had a new ac unit installed in our house yesterday. Long story but ours decided to kick the bucket Wednesday and it’s hot outside. So I was listening to one yesterday and put it on speaker because I was doing stuff while the people were there. Needless to say I realized really quick that I probably needed to find some headphones! I don’t think the installation guys would’ve appreciated my chipmunk romance book.
Jenny, I totally just used your task lines for Watership Down. I'm planning on reading it this week. I went ahead and planned out all those Olympic books and just went for it with mostly 300-400 page books. I'll be listening to chipmunk speed audio books and reading every night but I'm telling myself that I can make this happen. It means that I will have more than my usual number books this 2 weeks but its all the Olympics fault. I think I'm just going to go ahead and add them to the spreadsheet and then I have to legit make it happen.

I'll go work on ..."Cool! I will probably go have a look. I'm pretty sure that it's 100 pages because I had a book less than 160 over here and had to take it off because it didn't give us any points.
I'm on the waitlist for both August books so I should get them. I'm working my way through The Sun Down Motel and should have that finished today. I'll go work on my answers to questions at some point today as long as work isn't too crazy. Y'all really need to read Dear Martin. I read it last month and it was really good. I'm also sitting over here looking at this weeks Olympic tasks and shaking my head. I was confident I could do 7 books in 7 days for Show Dressing and then boom the Decathlon appeared. I think the Olympic Gods are just waiting until someone goes off screaming in the wind. For reals! I may be pulling out my Harry Potter broom and holding on for dear life in the sky before this is over.
I'll have mine done this morning. It would've already been finished but I couldn't complete it until a book was finished before mine. Crazy Olympic rules...so I've been sitting on the last two chapters patiently. Well, maybe not so patiently, because I went and finished another book in the meantime, but I can finish it now. :)
I just finished a super long book! I needed it done so now my Olympic book will have to be done tonight and then I can start on the other book. I may have stayed up way past my bedtime and now I'll be running on fully leaded Coke and possibly multiple cups of coffee today but 11/22/63 was a really good book and I liked it. I can't remember who else is reading it this week but it had mega points attached. Now to go read that historical romance....my reading choices are all over the place right now.
Angie ☯ wrote: "Anna - I can send you the epub version or convert it to mobi and send to you, if you want? It would be a document file to your kindle."Thanks so much but it just became available. Next time, I'll mention I'm having trouble getting it. I have to finish one book for the Olympics before I can start it but hopefully I'll get it going tomorrow.
Quick question? I'm next on the wait list for The Sun Down Motel. I thought I would've had it already but people must be slow reading. If I get it in the next couple of days, can I still read it for points even though the last day for new questions is today? I usually always read during the time frame but the book just isn't here. Also, I can't read Dear Martin because I just read it but it's really, really good!
Cool! I just added some more books and a couple of them were 400 pages. I have 2 big books that I'm working on for this week and then some more little ones. I've had to move things around again for these Olympic games so it's been interesting. I'll see what other bigger books that I can fit in also. :)
I have that book on my library waitlist. Let me know how it goes. If I get it by next week then I may tackle it on and off with another book.
