35559 Will check what I have on my Kindle for our round 3 later this weekend :) I think we will need to prioritise the letter I, I presume.

35559 When does round 2 ends ? I'm still travelling for another week and put the 9th of november on my calendar, is that correct? I didn't put an exact end time though :/ Currently reading Nine Coaches Waiting and that will be my last book for round 2.

Thanks, Mel ! I will be checking out The Spellshop once I'm back home :)

35559 Teammates reading the BOM, The Spellshop, how are you liking it ? I'm on the fence about adding it.

35559 I love the Austrian Alps ! Enjoy your stay, Mel, as well as some kaiserschmarrn for me ;)

35559 Quickly checking in :) I've finished my book, Jackaroo while travelling. Could someone please mark it as read on the spreadsheet as I can't access it ? I would be grateful :)

Also, if we still need it, my next read, Nine Coaches Waiting, has tomatoes and onions in the text.

35559 Thank you, Mel ! Same :D (in the end I made sacrifices as I can't take everything I initially wanted to :'))

35559 I've finished my book yesterday, which I really enjoyed, and added my books for our second round to the spreadsheet.

Just finished wrapping up everything at work and I'm currently packing as I'm leaving tomorrow for a couple of weeks of vacation. I always forget how time consuming packing is lol. I will be reading but will be quieter and will post my finished books here instead :)

35559 Captains, I've just realized I also have a U character in my current book: Captain Underhill. I will include it on the spreadsheet in case we still need it.

35559 Sounds like fun ! Wishing you a lovely reunion :)

35559 Thank you for taking one for the team, Mel ! I read the blurb and a couple of reviews for The Road Trip and decided the book was not for me.

I recently rediscovered my "abandoned" shelf and I'm thinking of DNFing books more often to spare me some frustrations. I usually don't like to leave things unfinished but I'm often in a dilemma about around which mark it's ok to stop reading or to persevere instead.

Unruly The Ridiculous History of England's Kings and Queens by David Mitchell

It was interesting and silly and funny all at once. Thanks for the rec, Mel"

I have this one on my TBR as well. I heard David Mitchell talking about it on one of History Hit's videos and already loved his insights and comments about the english kings & queens and especially his observations about the relationship between France and England. Hilarious. Looking forward to it ! :)

35559 I finished my book, A Night in the Lonesome October, over my commuting time this week. It was ok, I was a bit disappointed by it. On the other hand, my other book is quite good. It's based on the real life of governor John Winthrop and his family. I'm tempted to google some facts while reading but I don't want to accidentally read any historical spoilers 😅

I will be able to finish my book during this round still.

35559 Lonesome October has an O-character (Owen). I will add it to the spreadsheet.

35559 My book just mentioned "morris dancing" and I had to think about the Discworld team challenge where we had to find that mentioned in the text.
I feel the urge to write this down for future reference, you never know😅

The word "candelabra" in books also triggers me due to another challenge.

I think you should too :)
I saw that each chapter is a day in October. Will start it tomorrow on the train.

The book has been first published in January though, I feel like it's a missed opportunity...

35559 For our first round I will be reading The Winthrop Woman, a historical fiction in paperback for the evenings. And during my commute time I will be reading a halloween read, A Night in the Lonesome October on my kindle :)

35559 I love historical fiction and Dorothy Dunnett's books often popped up in my recommended books but wasn't sure about the writing style etc.

No need to apologize, I really liked your reply. It makes it easier for me to decide if I want to read the books or not. I'm grateful for the verbal diarrhea😉

Thank you both, Mel and Sophie ! Will start with the Niccolo series.
Oct 10, 2024 02:05PM

35559 Lots of books to add to my TBR :-)

Mel, would you recommend trying Dorothy Dunnett's books with the Lymond or Niccolò series first ?
