I totally screwed myself over on challenges in october bc I started like four/five books but then was out of town/very busy and only read a chapter or so in each one. Now I have a bunch of books I am about to finish but none of them count for November either! Lol challenge woes!

1. I still haven't read the original Peter Pan story. Most of what I associate with Pan is based on what I remember from the Disney film. Have you read the book? If so, did you like it? Have you watched any of the adaptations?
Yes, I am pretty obsessed with Peter Pan, as a literary trope. I have read the original and seen many adaptations. In the original book, Peter and Tink are both pretty dark, willing to murder people/kids for their own purposes. The idea of not wanting to grow up is fairly sinister too. Plus, the idea that we all eventually lose our childhood innocence and real life is painful but beautiful and ultimately worth it, rather than wasting away in "neverland." The idea of "lost boys" is sad too, children thrown away by our society. It is not a children's book! I think this adaptation makes a lot of sense and I am ready to jump right in. A great movie is "Finding Neverland" about J.M. Barrie and his writing/staging of Peter Pan, starring Johnny Depp. The best movie adaptation I have seen recently is the one with Jason Isaacs playing the dad/Hook. Yes, there is some psychoanalytical stuff going on as well; in the original casting Hook (the villian) is played by Wendy's father. Good stuff J.M. Barrie! Everyone should read it!
2. This story really is dark. Right from the first page. Most books I've read, even the horror ones, ease you into the story but not this one. What do you think of the story so far?
I am loving it!
4. I'm not sure what to make of Peter. From the book description he seemed to be darker than the original but not too bad being described as 'a brave friend'. However, so far to me he doesn't seem to have any redeeming features. What are your impressions of him?
He seems fairly close to the original Peter. He doesn't like adults messing/hurting with kids, but he is also egotistical and power-hungry himself. We will see.
5. Peter calls the island Avalon. Do you think there is any connection with the Avalon from Arthurian legend?
I hope so!

Wow guys it looks like we won the scavenger hunt with 350 points!!
AND we moved to #12!

These are the Items I didn't see on the spreadsheet:
Summer..."
Thanks Ezi! I knew the spreadsheet didn't look like it matched up to all the books we read!

It doesn't look like all of our Scavenger Hunt words were added to the spreadsheet? I know my word isn't there (birds).

In complete opposite, I also rated

I have been giving it to all of my friends & family.
A surprising read for me was

I also read my first Neal Gaiman,

- What was your favorite book you read for the challenge?
- Was there any book you normally wouldn't read that really surprised you?

I didn't mean for it be implied that I was doubting the number of books you read or process! I was more talking about the teams that slaughtered us right from the beginning! ;) A lot of the BOMs/BRs were NOT short romances, but long books. I read Lies of Loch Lamora and it was 700+ pages. I just don't believe people are really reading that many really long books but I know audio books helps people a lot. I personally just can't do them!
I read one mafia romance novel for this challenge in one day lol so yeah, I get it. I was glad the book counted but I felt you get more pressured into doing that (reading quick fast books) than, like you said, to really challenge yourself out of your comfort zone, learn new things, meet new people, discuss books, etc.

I agree Ezi!
