35559 A Darker Shade of Magic DQs
Day 1: Jan 2
Chapters I – II Read Royal, pages 1 - 57

Q1. Kell has a very interesting Jacket. Have you read a story before that has items of clothing like his? If so what story does it remind you of?

It honestly reminds me of the big trench coats that the shady but helpful characters wear in old detective movies, always pulling what you need or want out of their pockets. Makes me think that Kell is a thief or trickster. Magicians also come to mind. And, the invisibility cloak in Potter.

Q2. Going between worlds, multiple Londons with names of colors to distinguish them, the year 1819. Are you able to keep track of Kell’s travels? To keep up with the world building?

It is confusing and one of those books that I feel like I should be reading more closely and carefully, because I am going to miss some important clues. I also wasn't sure if he was just traveling in place or also in time?

Q3. Kell is an Antari (Blood Magic), a dying breed, one of the rare few that can do magic. Kell used his special coins and his blood to travel between worlds. Do you think he is a blood mage? Or does he have a darker kind (shade) of magic since he uses his blood? Or is it just part of Antari training?

I think that is how he is naturally, but we will find out more about his past.

Q4. How do you feel about the Collectors and the Enthusiasts?

Haha, I liked them and how they were described, especially the Enthusiasts as being kind of wannabe losers.

Q5. Are you enjoying the book so far?
Yes indeed. I think I am a sucker for all books set in London! Always thought it was a magical place in my travels.

Yes modern-classic is literally an oxymoron. I have over 200 books shelved as classic and only 7 where "modern classic" was used. "Modern fiction" or "comtemporary" and "literary fiction" are more likely to be used.

that'll work.

ETA: On second thought this won't work since as a prince he's already royalty."

Well Cinder discovers she is Princess Selene. Does that work?

NEW GOAL-Read a book that is in the "Best Young Adult Realistic Novels" Listopia List (https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/8......"

I will check our "books read." The trick is not to look at the list, but to look at each book and see if that particular listopia is listed

It was a typo on the "books read" thread. I fixed it. I read it the 21st-25th. I was looking to see if there was a holiday meal but it was a birthday meal, then I saw the goal with the presents.
