The distant cry of a morning bird awoke Claire like an alarm. She threw the covers off her bed, placing her feet gingerly on the lukewarm carpet. Her toes dug into the shagginess. 'This is so much better than dirt and twigs!' she told herself, throwing her head back in a confident sigh. Maybe today wouldn't be so bad after all.
