3113 Sherri YES! Lars and the Real Girl is a genius black comedy. I both loved and hated it. And yes, it is creepy. While you're laughing.

3113 As the United Nations prepares to receive a resolution urging more than 75 member nations to decriminalize homosexuality, the Vatican rears its well-coiffed head against the plan.

The Vatican's permanent observer to the UN told Reuters that the Holy See will oppose the resolution, which France is set to propose this month on behalf of and by unanimous consent of the 27-member European Union.

The reasoning: The Vatican fears ending penalties for gayness will lead to same-sex marriage. Countries that don't let gays wed "will be pilloried and made an object of pressure," and we can't have that.

Because while Europe and the Americas trend -- however slowly and erratically they may seem -- toward equality, the picture in the rest of the world is very different. African governments have actually stepped up their persecution, with the latest, Burundi, moving to impose criminal penalties on gayness just last week.

During the same few years, hundreds of accused gays have been executed in Iran, Sudan and other countries that observe Islamic law.

Anti-equality Americans who swear fealty to anti-gay foreign religious leaders like Anglican Peter Akinola of Nigeria give a powerful endorsement to the home country's hate, however much they may deny it.

It will be interesting to see how the United States votes on this one. As recently as 2006, the U.S. aligned with countries like Iran on gay issues, initially denying UN consultative status to LGBT organizations.
3113 jealousy makes things unnnnnecccccesssssarilllly complicated.

3113 how would you know it was painful unless you tried? come on, admit it... you think the giant ass on that sculpture is sexy.
3113 since when are Jews atheists? And dude... Hanukah is older than Christmas.

Personally, being a pagan, I have no problem celebrating ALL the holidays. Since every other tradition was stolen originally from my traditions, I feel perfectly justified in stealing them all back. Pretty much that means that I get to party all year long. : )

3113 I had no idea it was considered so radical. I have always just loved the Charlie Brown Xmas... it was one of the things I looked forward to this time of year. I could live without the frikking Peanuts sculptures that are now all over Santa Rosa. But whatever... at least it's not the goddamn painted cows that are all over Sonoma.
3113 I love that sign. It's perfect. I have no problem with people putting up mangers and whatnot... but it's about time that instead of complaining about the religious symbols people just start plastering the world with other points of view. Frikking awesome. I love it when Xtains get their knickers in a wad. It's always entertaining.
