29443 Sure. I wasn't aware this was a leap year. Thanks for pointing that out.
29443 I think most of us appreciate a tortured, tormented, or emotionally damaged character to some degree. But when is it too much?
29443 I posted my review for a recent read and this hero really made me create this thread.

DHASG February Challenge

Introduction: February is the 2nd month of the year. It's the month of Valentine's Day and the last full month of winter. We have a lot of great reading opportunities this month! Enjoy!

Rules:

1. Any DHASG member can participate in the challenge.
2. Books must be read between February 1st and February 29th.
3. A book may only be used once for this challenge.
4. Post or link to your final stats when you are completed.
5. In your stats, list book name, title and date read. Unless obvious, include why you choose a certain book in parentheses in your stats.

Levels:

1. Red Hot Book Lover: Read 9-12 books.
2. Wild and Crazy Book Lover: Read 5-8 books.
3. More Than Just Like Book Lover: Read 3-4 books.

Categories
:

1. Just The Two of Us: Since February is the 2nd month of the year and St. Valentine's Day is the highlight of the month, read a book where the story is focused almost exclusively on main couple. (They spend lots of time alone together with few other characters in the narrative).
2.What is Love?: Read a book that tells us what love is. The title could include the word love or a synonym, or it could indicate an aspect of love.
3.Groundhog Day: February 2nd is Groundhog's Day. If the groundhog goes back in his burrow, winter will continue. Read a book with a lead character who is in hiding.
4.President's Day: The third Monday of the month is dedicated to honoring our great US presidents. Read a book with a character who is a very important person with a lot of responsibility and lives up to that responsibility. You could also read a book with a character who shares on of the name of a past or current US president. Here is a list of US presidents:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...
5.Singles Awareness Day: Valentine's Day can be tough for those of us who aren't married or currently dating. February 15th is the day we honor them. Read a book with a lead character who starts out single or stays single for a large part of the group, or someone who doesn't date much but finally gets a chance of love.
6.Get a Different Name Day: February 13th is the day to acknowledge that you might not like the name you're born with. For this day, read a book where the lead or prominent character changes their name, for whatever reason. It could be they are a spy or are undercover or on the run. Let's us know which reason.
7Do a Grouch a Favor!: For this day on February 16th, read a book with a lead character who is very grouchy, but over the course of the book has a change of heart, and preferably because someone shows them the error of their ways or that they are appreciated.
8.White T-Shirt Day: This day on February 11th started as part of a union strike against General Motors, but it has evolved to a day when people wear white T-shirts. If you can find a cover where the character is wearing a white T-shirt, you are golden. Otherwise, you can use a book where a character wears a white T-shirt at some point in the story.
9.Random Acts of Kindness: On February 17th, we do something kind for someone else. If you can, why not live up to this day in your life? If not, read a book where someone does something kind for another person with no underlying motives.
10.Walking the Dog Day: I hope everyone doesn't just wait until February 22nd to walk their dog, but this is a day where you specifically do it. :) For this day, read a book where the lead character has a dog, or a dog is a character in the book.
11.Cherry Pie Day:I'm all for celebrating this delectable dessert on February 22nd. How about you? You can represent cherry pie in a variety of ways: The lead character bakes, there is red or cherries on the cover, the author's name is Cherry or a character has this name, or a lead character is a virgin.
12.Black History Month: The struggles and successes of Black Americans are specifically celebrated this month. Read a book that touches on Black History or has a lead or prominent character who is of black or black African (American) descent.

29443 Way to go, Ladies! I'm working on the February Challenge as we speak!
29443 I really dislike when the hero is disrespectful to the heroine throughout the book and you wonder how he could love her if he doesn't even respect her as a person. It's really hard for me to get past that with a hero.

Ditto!

29443 I think it might depend on the series. I feel like her heroines are pretty funny in the Ghostwalker and Sea Haven books.

Dark Demon and Dark Descent were some of my faves from the series.
