DHASG August 2020 Challenge

Duration: 1 August to 31 August 2020

Introduction:

General Rules: It's August, and I'm sorry the challenge is late. It's almost time to go back to fall activities (well sort of, with the pandemic).

1. Any DHASG member can participate.
2. Sign up at any time during the month, but books must be read between August 1st and August 31st, 2020. Post when you sign up and update your progress regularly and when you finish. Since I was late posting the challenge, please feel free to backdate any books you read before I posted it.
3. Rereads are fine. Reads can overlap with other challenges on the group, but a book can only count once in this challenge.
3. In your stats, write your level, include book name, author, date read, and how it fits the particular challenge point.
4.Have fun!

How Does this Work?:

Here's the word bank below. You choose words and/or phrases and create a list of challenges based on those words. They can be any association you'd like, so long as you follow the guideline you set for each challenge item.

Violet eyes used to be a huge trope in the eighties. Not so much now.

29443 I've read more books than I care to remember with unlikable heroes. It's not my preference. I would like the hero to improve if he's unlikable at first. Or at least, even if the rest of the world thinks he's a jerk, at least he's good to the heroine (and kids and animals and the elderly).

29443 I'm taking notes!
29443 I like that their relationship has been strong over the years.
29443 That was a great scene, Arch. I loved the dancing and the background on Sanjar's relationship with James. I like that you addressed that at one point there was chemistry, but Sanjar made the choice not to pursue it because she didn't want to ruin their dance partnership.

Awesome writing!

29443 I'm doing a lot of rereading, which is great because I was not able to get into books for a long time. I have recovered my love of reading.

I'm rereading some of my favorite series that I started and fell out of or just for fun:

The GhostWalkers by Christine Feehan
Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews
Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
Elder Races by Thea Harrison
DarkHunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon (technically not rereading, I finally read Acheron. It was fantastic).

29443 So do you have any strategies for reading this summer?

Are you tackling a new series?

Doing some rereading?

Are you jamming on Audiobooks?

Did you find a new genre to fall into?

29443 I'm really wanting to get back into reading romance, and I love this theme. Please post your favorite Villain as Hero romances here.

All are welcome, but my caveats are that I'm not into BDSM/heavy erotica/non-consent, just my personal preference.

I love all genres, so if you can recommend books that aren't necessarily romance but have a good chemistry between the villain/hero and another lead character, please feel free to suggest those.

Thanks!

29443 I've been rereading/listening to the Elder Races books by Thea Harrison back to back on Audible. I love this series. I had read Dragon Bound years ago, and then Storm's Heart, but never got back to the other books. It's been great diving into this series again. My favorite so far, I think is Serpent's Kiss. I'm currently reading Oracle's Moon.

Thanks, Shera. Real life is really real right now, so I that makes sense.

29443 You can download the playing card from the website and fill it in, and then you can upload it here, or you can just do a typical challenge post where you just note all the books you've read for the challenge.
