225619 We're in our final week of August (can you believe time has flown so quickly?) and I love the conversations that are happening and the words that are being shared from Hook's Revenge. In our final week, I have one more discussion question for you:

I loved the scene in chapter 34 when Jocelyn is given the choice to remain with the fairies (and be immortal) or to be granted any other wish. In case you haven't gotten that far yet, I won't tell you what she chooses, but I'd love to hear what you would do in her shoes. Does being a fairy forever and ever appeal to you, or would you ask the Queen for another wish? What would you wish for?

Oh, I love all of these! Cassoulet is such a fun word, and definitely hard to spell. I've never eaten a cassoulet, but it sounds yummy!

For those that don't know (and I actually had to look it up), a cassoulet is "a casserole of beans baked with herbs and pork sausage and sometimes other meats." It's pronounced ka-suh-LAY.

Hi, Sheridan! It's so nice to have you here. I, too, love the Half-Blood Prince. I think that J.K. Rowling is super-funny in that one in particular, although she's pretty witty overall.

I just recently finished re-reading the Goblet of Fire and I had forgotten how cool the Tri-Wizard Tournament is to read about. The second task is one of my favorite parts for sure. That's so cool you've been playing the violin that long!

Yeah, that's a really cool scene. The magic at work there is really complicated and it makes me wonder how J.K. Rowling came up with all her great ideas.

Hey, Calvin! You're not being cliche at all—I love that we have so many people in this group who love Harry Potter! Do you have a favorite book in the series, or a favorite part or scene? Also, that's so cool that you play the violin! How long have you been playing?

Welcome to the Bee's Bookshelf, Arnav! Another Potterhead—yay! What is your favorite book in the series? For me, I've always been a big fan of the Prisoner of Azkaban because I love Sirius so much.

Oh my goodness, these are all such wonderful words! I think my favorite from your list is "mustachioed" because it's not one you hear very often.

225619 I'm really enjoying reading everyone's theories about the narrator's identity. I agree with Julia—I thought that we would find out his identity by the end of the book, and I was a little grumpy when that didn't happen. It's cool watching everyone piece together clues from the book to try and figure out the mystery. We've ruled out Tink (and all women), and we have some really good guesses regarding either Dirty Bob or one of the Darling Boys. I'm curious to see if his identity is revealed in Hook's Revenge: The Pirate Code.

Welcome to our book club, Ankita! I'm excited that we have yet another Harry Potter lover here. I'm currently rereading the series (on book five right now) and am surprised at how many details I had forgotten. Which book in the series is your favorite?

Hi, Nancy! Welcome to the Bee's Bookshelf. I really enjoyed all of the pirate vocab in Hook's Revenge, as well. I haven't read the Land of Stories series, but I've heard so many great things about it. Thanks for sharing some of your favorite words—didgeridoo is such a fun one!

It's been on my list to read for awhile. How do you think it compares to the Percy Jackson series?
Aug 08, 2017 08:43AM

225619 Now that we're one week into August, I hope most of you have had a chance to start reading Hook's Revenge. The following quote comes up in chapter eight, and I would love to hear your thoughts:

"In this regard, the late Lord Wellesley's library proved to be quite helpful, allowing [Roger and Jocelyn] to live a lifetime of daring deeds in paper and ink."

Roger and Jocelyn rely on stories to help them escape the reality of their daily lives. Jocelyn even references famous stories she's read throughout the book, including the great epic "The Odyssey." What stories do you rely on for adventure?

Hey, Jaden—welcome to our book club! It sounds like you really love dystopian fiction...me too! Have you read Divergent? It has a lot of similarities to The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner series.
