I didn't know that there was an Incomplete or Abridged Marry Poppins. I'll keep an eye out as I really enjoyed the movie.

By some other groups, members are able to post photographs. How is that done?

I am now one book away from my goal of 150 so have decided it is time to increase it to 200.

I am happy to be a member of Goodreads and the increase in members is inspiring. I have always been a reader but I must admit that Goodreads and the yearly challenge has stimulated and stirred me to even greater reading feats. I was once under the impression that reading, like writing, was losing ground and that my addiction to buying, saving and reading books was more the exception than the rule. Goodreads has proved this assumption wrong and introduced me to many fellow addicts, new books and new authors. I just want to say: Thank You. Thank you all for the time and effort you put in this group and I hope the numbers continue to grow.

Kelli, I can believe its love. When I open a new book it can take me anywhere. I experience love, pain, sorrow and passion; I am whole. I have always been a collector as the sight of multitudes has always excited me (some would say here: different strokes for different folks). As weird it may sound, literature gives my world color, feeling and life. I truly hope you are as deeply afflicted as I am……it is heavenly.

That's the joy of being a book buying addict, you have it for life. Let your descendents catch the fever or clean up the mess. I have resigned myself to my fate and informed my children of their options. We only live once………let it be surrounded by books.

Do you really judge a book by its cover?

As of today I have read 141 of 150 which is 94% of my original challenge. That puts me 61 books ahead. I will probably increase my goal soon.

I live in Holland and because flooding is a constant companion we can’t get insurance that affords the same coverage that you’ve described. If a large flood would ever affect a substantial portion of the country the insurance companies would all of belly-up. Life is never a sure thing so I have to do with having my library on the second floor of my house. At least we don’t have tornadoes or blizzards here.

I went back and looked at the database I log all my books in, and the total value of my book collection is $26,500 with a small chunk of the books missing a value, so it'd be a bit higher. M..."Unfortunately, once the average book is purchased and removed from the store (or delivered by the postman) the book is only worth the price of old paper. I found this out not so many years ago when a portion of my library succumbed to the waters of a flood. The insurance adjuster coldly told me that my lost children had no real monetary value. It hurt me to hear this but hasn’t prevented me from collecting. Most of my losses have been replaced and I moved my library upstairs so the I guess I have learned a few good lessons from this watery tragedy.
Paris: The Novel I ordered this book more than a month ago but had to wait until it was once again in stock. I feel sure that the wait will be worth it.

Thank you for the input. I will start on the series soon and if it proves to be as good as what you say people feel, I’ll go out and buy the remaining seven books.

You would be more apt to write a review if you saw it more as a public service than a labor of love. Thousands of Goodreads members would appreciate in hearing your opinion; good or bad. They are constantly expanding their reading horizons and can use all the help they can get.

I Think Dear Abbey give a very practical solution to a problem but does Bookworm in New York actually perceive his obsession of book collecting as a problem? My opinion is no. I’ve read enough books and known enough women to know that Bookworm in New York is of the fairer sex and isn’t actually asking for a solution. She is asking for sympathy and support…….she wants to hear “you’re an extraordinary individual with a unique mania; Dear Abbey is obviously not a Goodreads member. If you want a solution, build a larger room for your books and if that is impractical or impossible, move your living room furniture into the library and the library into the living room. I’m a man and men are known for providing practical solutions; no matter how impractical and ridicules. I say BULLY to Bookworm in New York, may all your problems be so small!
