Yess, that's true, she is definitely use to being guarded.
Chapters 9-12 (6 new)

211518 Lets discuss chapters 9-12 of Caraval!

(Does there need to be spoiler warnings with these? I mean it's a discussion of these chapters, so I'm just going to assume you've read them before reading this)

I really enjoyed these chapters, everything is beginning to pick up a lot more. We learned a lot more about Julian, though there is still a lot he's hiding. When he played Caraval the first time, I'm curious as to whether he was with someone else?
I still found Scarlett to be a bit annoying and goody two shoes, but it doesn't bother me a whole lot.

Onward to Night One of Caraval!

211518 Let's discuss our thoughts so far on chapters 1-8.

**Disclaimer: I'm a bit critical with every book I read, even if I'm enjoying it.**

First thoughts:
- Wow I didn't notice there was a map in this book! It looks really cool!

- I like the sort of Disney feel I'm getting from this book.

- The characters I am finding to be a tad bit annoying; mainly the main character, Scarlett. Like gurl, you and your sister can escape and be FREE. Your count ain't got nothing on Legend. I understand she's scared about her father tracking them down and killing her sister, I just know that if I was in that position I would still want to escape and just try everything in my means to not be tracked.

- Page 41: Their Nana is telling them a story and it's coming to life before their very eyes. I'm curious as to whether this is literal and is some form of magic, or is it simply to represent childhood imagination?

- Page 55: Here we see Scarlett drowning after ignoring Julians advice of taking off her clothes. I found it to be sort of silly that after he cuts her corset and saves her from drowning, the first thought she thinks of is how "She's never been in such a position with a boy." You almost DROWNED, this isn't a sexual intimate moment.
Side note: The water is described as "artic" and we discover the island has snow on it. Would they not have gotten hypothermia from swimming that distance?? (sorry, I'm being a party pooper here).

- Page 72: Scarlett says no to Algie's (the weird clock looking dude. I can't help thinking of Cogsworth from Beauty & the Beast) offer about giving him her voice for an hour. He then says, "your loss" and shows her the other side of the weird door, where she can see her sister. Scarlett then just says "No!" and pretty much just leaves the building. Yo, I would be questioning that shady fella.

- End of chapter 8: Yay we're about to enter Caraval! I'm excited to see what crazy things go on here. Let The Night of Caraval Eve commence!

Thumbs up for manga, anime, and Nintendo! Those are all some of my favorite things ^_^ I don't read manga as much as I use to (just don't own that many), but watching anime and playing Nintendo is a pretty ordinary occurrence for me

Yesss I have read The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks and it is one of my favourite "assassin" themed fantasy series. It is definitely not for a younger audience, it is very dark. I actually read it at a younger age when I probably shouldn't have XD But I still reaaaallly enjoyed it. I plan on re-reading them sometime and putting up reviews. But The Lightbringer series I have yet to read! I'm glad to hear you enjoy it though, because I want to read it soon! I own the first two books and I have heard nothing but good things. Brent Weeks is a fantastic author.

Hi Ella! No need to be worried about age, and whether you're a booktuber/blogger or not. Everyone's welcome! :) Also I wouldn't worry about college, haha I didn't have any plans about college until I was like 18!

Wow that's so interesting Christiana! I've never heard of coloured overlays, are those like reading lenses for glasses? That's so great that your family discovered them so that you are able to read now! ^_^

211518 Tell us a bit about yourself! What genre's do you like?

Here, I'll go first :) My name is Jay and I'm a 20 year-old student finishing my last year in a 2-year diploma in Writing & Publishing. I plan on getting a job as an editor/website-designer after my diploma, while continuing to work on my own writing projects. I am currently working on a long narrative poem book as well as the first book in a series; my life long dream since I could remember has always been to be an author.
I am also a BookTuber! So if that's something you're interested in feel free to subscribe and check out my videos: https://www.youtube.com/c/CapturedInW...
I will be making a review for each book we read in this group!
As far as reading goes, I generally will read most genres. However, my favourites are fantasy, historical-fiction, Literary Fiction, YA, middle-grade, and sci-fi.
