I LOVE the scene where Sazed is fending off the Koloss, I mean what a brave soul! Same with when Vin arrived, I was on the edge of my seat waiting for her to get there! I was okay with the insta-love for Sazed and Tindwyl, since they do have some history between them. And I liked her character a lot myself, I just felt like now wasn't the time for her to die. I feel like the third book should have expanded on her and Sazed's relationship a wee bit, considering their relationship just started. Alas, war is not kind or patient.
Yeah I totally understand your thoughts as to questioning why Elend should be king. Though the people still seem to hold some faith in him. When he was leaving, he told them he would come back to save them, and a lot of the skaa believed (though to be fair, idk what kept them from continuing to think he was just abandoning them). But I agree, if anything it seems that Vin should be made queen, especially with her being upheld as holy woman to the Church of the Survivor, and the one who dealt the killing blow to the Lord Ruler. I think it would be great if they made her Queen and ruler, though Elend would most likely end up doing all the decision making and ruling to be honest. She would basically just have her presence and trust in the people XD
I suppose Jastes was just controlling them by using their greed and ambition to be like humans, by dangling money over their heads :/
I have a feeling Sanderson's goal for Allriane is to make her a bit of a grey character. I don't think she's black or white, and is definitely very manipulative. We'll have to see in the third book, but I think she still has a lot of good in her like Breeze. I could be completely wrong though! I could see Sanderson having us trust her, then have her backstab Breeze :( Yesss we are running out of villians!!
Poor Dockson and Clubs :(

Yess I completely agree with you! I think Elend was so reckless against the Koloss because he was at the end of his rope and completely desperate. He was tired of feeling so powerless, even though he's always had such high positions. This scene against him and the Koloss is still one of my favorites in the entire book.
That's a really interesting theory you have about the Koloss being human at one point! I never thought of that! I was also a bit disappointing that it was just fake money in their pouches, though (if they aren't human) it makes sense that by watching human behavior, they've learned that money is the thing that grants the most power, and since they want to be like humans they became lured by money. But yeah, I was definitely expecting something more magical.
I wanted to like Zane as well :( At first I thought he was going to be a really interesting character, but now it just feels like he was kinda... pointless. OH THAT'S RIGHT, I forgot to write about that weird steel nail on his chest near his heart. WHAT IS THAT???? I would love an explanation at some point! Yeah I also found the excuse of Zain not killing Straff just because he was his "father" to be stupid, I mean, the man put you through so much torture, and yet you would rather kill Vin instead of him?
Oh I definitely think there's more Mistborn in the world. Sure Straff and Cett don't have anymore, but there's still other towns and I'm sure there are other nobles out with their own armies and Mistborn.
I also didn't realize Sazed was lying about the Well being in the North!
Omg that's so awesome you'll be naming your new dog Ore'seur! YES to a kandra spin-off!

MY MIND IS BLOWN.
The Well of Ascension is actually a prison to some force!!! And this same force has been manipulating religious text, changing the words written on parchment and even the memories stored in copperminds. The only trustworthy documentation is what's written in steel, like the steel plaque that Sazed found yet was changed after he copied it down. EVERYTHING IS A LIE.
The moment I read those words: I am FREE! I was terrified. Terrified of what Vin had just unknowingly done, and terrified of what would become of Elend. Thankfully Elend was cured by that metal that was stuck in the pottery disk- Which, you know, turned him into a FREAKING MSITBORN. No biggie. Seriously though, what does this mean for book three?? I can't wait to see Elend use his new powers!
The mist spirit tried to warn them. It tried by cutting open Elend's stomach in an attempt to make Vin use the well's power to heal him. It pointed out the missing paper to Sazed and even led him to Kredik Shaw. It confronted Elend and pointed towards Terris. But what is in Terris and why must they go there? I'm sure we will find out in book three.
What do you think this mist spirit is? Is it one spirit, or is each one a new entity? Could these be the souls of the previous "Hero of Ages", trying to warn of their mistake? Or is it still the Deepness?
It's tragic what befell the Terris people and their Keepers. That's what the Inquisitor were up to! Gathering Koloss and slaughtering the Terris people and Synod.

But why? Hmmm I wonder if they have a voice in their head, like the one Zane had, telling them what to do. The same force that broke free from the Well of Ascension perhaps? Speaking of Inquisitors, they just kinda left Marsh there. I know Sazed was in a rush, but I wish he at least instructed Ham to rip out the metal spike between Marsh's shoulder blades just so I had some peace of mind.
I have to admit, with all that was going on with Sazed I was almost expecting him to be the 'Hero of Ages'. I thought he was being led to Kredik Shaw by the spirit in order to get to the Well before Vin.
I was so worried during the fight with Marsh, but I'm glad Sazed didn't die!
So, does this mean that Vin isn't the 'Hero of Ages'? Or is there even a Hero of Ages at all, maybe this term was made up just so that the being stuck in the well could have a hero to save it. I can't wait to read book three, but at the same time I don't want this series to end!
This book was amazing! It slowed down a bit near the middle, but not too much, and the ending more then made up for it. I still don't see how this book could be perceived as 'predictable' like someone said to me, because I couldn't predict a thing!
I don't even know what else to say. Time to read book three!

THE WELL OF ASCENSION IS IN LUTHADEL!??? I thought it was odd that the thumping was fading the farther Vin traveled to Terris, but I still didn't expect this! It must be in Kredik Shaw, maybe even in that small "building within a building" that Kelsier was always trying to get into. Thoughts?
And that creepy Mist spirit that tried to kill Elend in his sleep! >:(

Is this spirit a personification of the Deepness? Perhaps, the Mist does become a 'creature'?
OH and speaking of Elend, I was so happy when he decapitated Jastes. That man was a traitor to his country, and caused the death of many innocents. Elend acts on justice, and I think his move here was right. He will be a good king.
The Koloss attack was so intense! I was up late at night and couldn't stop reading! It was honestly terrifying, because I didn't know who would die! The Koloss climbing up the walls and everything, reminds me of the anime show Attack on Titan, if any of you know it ;)

Sazed held up such a good fight. I'm immensely proud of that Terrisman. I he took out a lot of Koloss before Vin came. I couldn't help feeling sad for him when he realized he doesn't know what he believes in, and of course, when he found Tindwyl's body.
Sazed just closed his eyes and held her, cursing her for staying, yet loving her for it all the same.
Originally I was happy Tindwyl stayed, as I wanted to see her relationship with Sazed become stronger. I'm so sad she was one of the ones that died in the fight :( She was perfect for Sazed, and he for her. Poor Sazed.

On the topic of deaths, let's give our respects to the other crew members who died.
Clubs/Master Cladent, a carpenter and a realist who wasn't ashamed of me speaking the depressing facts. He was a smoker, protecting allowmancers by giving them a coppercloud. He's uncle to young Lestibournes/Spook. He is killed after being cut down by a Koloss.
It was bitter-sweet to see that he wore the wooden disk with the image of a paint brush around his neck; the token that Sazed had given him to represent a religion valuing art.
And then there's Dockson. Kelsier's best friend and right-hand man. He was chosen by Kelsier to be the Governor of Luthadel after his death. He had no allowmantic abilities, but was a big part of the crew nonetheless. I wish we saw more of him in this book. He was killed by a Koloss.

Vin really pushed her abilities to get to Luthadel! What a badass! I liked how she used horseshoes to make an allowmancer highway to Luthadel, like the metal spike highway she traveled with Kelsier. I liked in A LOT more in this part then the previous one. I have to say, Brandon Sanderson does such a good job describing fight scenes. Vin tore through the Koloss ranks. And she found out she can control them the same way you can control a Kandra!! It was so odd to picture a creepy Koloss lifting Vin up to speak to Lord Penrod XD

Oh I forgot to mention one other death! Though I don't think we need to pay our respects to this man.
Straff Venture, a Tineye who was the most powerful noble in the Final Empire, and Elend's father. Boy was I glad to see him croak.
The horse fell into two pieces, front and back. What remained of the former king slid to the ground with the equine corpse. She looked at the remnants, smiled grimly, and bid Straff farewell.
It needed to be done Vin. Good job!

What do you guys think about Cett??? I still seems like a foul man to me, though maybe deep down he has some good in him? It's obvious he loves his daughter, even if he tries not to show it. Speaking of which, Allrianne ended up being a character that I was wasn't expecting. Originally I thought she was some spy of some sort, but she seems honest. She loves Breeze.
Ahh Breeze. One of my favourite characters evens till. I feel so bad for him, hiding in shock after seeing Clubs killed. He's so traumatized he can hardly soothe the soldier's around him. The soldiers that found him however, told Ham that they could feel him soothing them. I wonder how long he will be in shock.
Well it seems like we are coming to a conclusion. Elend is on his way to take back his throne. The threat of Koloss as well as Cett and Straff's armies is diminished. But there's still the BIG threat. The mist. Will Vin be able to find the Well of Ascension and stop the mist, or will this be saved for book three? Let's keep reading!
I have to say, I absolutely love this series and am so happy to be reading it.

Let’s start by talking about two of the BIGGEST scenes.
- Elend FINALLY made a move! A crazy one indeed, but I had a grin on my face the whole time when he traveled to the Koloss camp and threatened Jastes Lekal (tbh I completely forgot that Jastes was once Elend’s good friend). We can tell Elend’s training has paid off, judging by his fast reflexes when pulling the dagger on Jastes. NOT TO MENTION ATTACKING A FREAKING KOLOSS. ELEND WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??? Hahahaha this has to be one of my favorite parts of the book. I was waiting for something crazy to happen!
Hmmm it’s quite odd how the Koloss want to be “human” and are even accepting payment, even if the coins are fake, it’s still just so weird! What were
you expecting to be in the bags they carried on them? I was guessing that maybe it was an allomantic metal that they were addicted to like a drug XD But nope! Just wooden coins!
And then there’s Vin’s “big” move. She was convinced by Zane- how does she get so manipulated by this guy so easily? – to attack Cett and his army in the night. I know I mentioned in a previous discussion that I would have loved to see a planned assassination on Cett or Straff, but this just seemed too reckless to me. It made me question Vin’s sanity a little bit! She’s been acting a lot on her emotions and being very dramatic. I don’t understand why she let’s Zane’s words take such a hold on her. He doesn’t seem that convincing to me, all he ever says is stuff like “You’re not like them”, “Why let them use you?”, “Elend doesn’t understand you” etc. THIS GUY KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT YOUR LIFE AND RELATIONSHIP VIN, SO STOP LISTENING TO HIM. But yes, back to her attack on Cett’s army, a.k.a. Keep Hastings midnight Slaughterhouse. Wow, she has definitely become more powerful! I was impressed with her fighting prowess, albeit a tad bit surprised at her recklessness. Was she so angry just because Elend went to the Koloss camp without her knowing? So angry that she went and slaughtered a mansion full of armed men? I understand she’s coming to the realization that she can’t always protect the one(s) she loves. I’m glad in the end she let Cett and his son live. I actually felt bad for their pathetic state. This slaughter scene was definitely fun to read though!

- One last thing on Vin’s insecurities, thinking that she is not worthy of Elend. Honestly, I feel like it should be the other way around. If I was Elend, I would feel quite useless if my lover was this powerful superhuman that had to protect me all the time. I would feel like I’m a liability to this person. But Elend is a smart man, and he loves Vinso much that he doesn’t let this bother him too much. I think maybe if this pounding in Vin's head was described to be making her more emotional and reckless, then I would be able to understand more.

Later on Vin actually ends up killing Zane! FINALLY HE’S OUT OF THE PICTURE! :D

I did like the insane bastard in some ways, and even wish he was in the story a bit more, but I just disliked how his main purpose was to get in-between Elend and Vin. I was incredibly surprised to figure out OreSeur was under contract with Zane, and was the traitor in Luthadel all along!! :O
I forgive him 100% though, I mean, he was under contract but he still was willing to break it in order to give Vin the winning edge; even if it cost him immense pain, and gave up the secret as to how to control Kandra. Damn it OreSeur, you’re fantastic!

Elend and Vin are married! <3
Hopefully after things settle down they will be able to celebrate a bit more ;)
And Sazed’s plan of getting Vin and Elend out of Luthadel is on its way! Finally they are going towards Terris and the Well of Ascension! Things are getting very exciting and we’re so close to the end of the book!

A few notes I took while reading:
- Ooo some important information that Kwaan set up Rashi to kill Alendi! At least I’m pretty sure this is new info?
- Sazed saying that the crew is “unaccustomed to being defeated” is a tad silly in my opinion. They are living in a world where they have constantly been defeated and stepped on, besides their huge recent victory with overthrowing the Lord Ruler (and perhaps some gang related victories), I just don’t think it’s fair to say they are unaccustomed to defeat. I think their victory on saving and ruling Luthadel just isn’t going as planned, and that can be stressing on anyone.
- What do you think is going on with the Steel Ministry? I’m thinking the Inquisitors are hiding out in Kredik Shaw.

Yess, it's definitely a deep series! Elend's character progression continues to impress me! Just wait until you read Part 4 ;) Discussion for that should be up soon....
Oh and I agree with your thoughts on Vin, she's been annoying me more and more. I mean I love her, but it's annoying how she doesn't give Elend enough credit. I don't feel like they've been too close lately, and I wouldn't say that's just Elend's fault, of course he's been trying to juggle to save his throne, but Vin could put in some effort too instead of sparring with Zane. I thought perhaps she grew past some of her insecurities. At first it seemed like she grew up more and was becoming more confident by the end of the first book and beginning of this one, but now she's been reverting back to her insecure self. She doesn't seem to understand the politics or have much interest in them, but I can respect her love for Elend and the Skaa. I do agree that Elend should have told Vin about joining Kelsier's Church, I mean how hard would it be to tell her even on the way there? It did come off as a sloppy writing moment.
XD I can relate when you said that sometimes you feel like the people of Luthadel don't deserve to be saved. It seems like the majority of them aren't appreciative at all. Of corse, this does come from their lifestyle and how they are used to being abused and controlled by a tyrant, but you think with all that's changed more of them would have opened their eyes.
I'm so proud of OreSeur for breaking the contract to protect Vin! ^_^
It would be nice to see Zane switch over to Vin and Elend's side. But I don't know... I've just never liked him. I get why people would, with him being a "bad boy" and all, but he sort of seems like a character convenience to me, someone who's only purpose is to put tension between Vin and Elend's relationship. I also just never feel like he is truly sincere to Vin. But yeah, I would still love to see him cross over to support Luthadel!
Yesss Sazed and Tindwyl need to keep their information safe! I had the same thought as you when reading; they need to find a way to ship their information back to Terris. I agree, it's so tragic to think about Tindwyl being used for reproduction, and Sazed's castration :( Oh and I believe at one point it was explained that there were some Terrismen kept secret from the Lord Ruler that weren't castrated. At least I'm pretty sure anyway?

Poor Elend! I was so relieved when the voting reached a deadlock, yet just before I could relax that stupid nobleman had to speak up and ask to change his vote. Elend is such an honest man to allow this rule that only himself and Noorden would know about (Speaking of which, I find Noorden interesting and I hope he comes into the lamplight of the story more.)
“He nodded to Ham, then left without looking back at the men who had discarded him.”
AND THAT BATTLE.
“She had one finger out, and she had incredible aim. The Thug’s eye popped as she rammed her finger into the socked.”
“The Man’s head exploded as easily as the eyeball had earlier.”
GRUESOME. Good job Vin! I was not expecting the force of the duralumin to explode the Thug’s head right off! Damn! I thought this would have given the assemblymen more hope in her abilities, and give them more incentive to vote for Elend, however I’m not sure how many witnessed it, considering how fast it all happened. And poor OreSeur taking a beating! ALSO, when Elend went to Lord Penrod’s mansion to commence with the voting, I was surprised no one commented on his blood-stained white suit!
“A man can only stumble for so long before he either falls or stands up straight.”

Elend has been growing so much, and is becoming the confident ruler Luthadel needs. In a way I wish he would do something completely crazy, say… set up an assassination mission on Cett and send Vin to frighten his army by pushing on them with duralumin, forcing them to join Luthadels side. A rash move I know, but I would love to see a bold move like that!
I really don’t know what will happen next. I recently had someone message me and say that they found this book too predictable compared to the other’s. HOW THOUGH???? I mean, yeah, I think Vin (…or possibly Elend?) is the Hero of Ages and will have to travel to the Well of Ascension. BUT THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO THIS BOOK. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Oh yes, and let’s talk about the cutest Terris couple in the world shall we? I have to say, I completely ship Sazed and Tindwyl. That scene was one of the cutest things. I feel so bad for Sazed, who thinks because he is an Eunuch that love was never meant for him. For Tindwyl, sex has only ever been a means of breeding, and I think now she just wants someone to love and connect with on an intellectual level. Sazed, you’re the right person for her, and her for you.
Alright, and with that I will leave some of the notes I took while reading:
- This Philen Frandeu guy sure is shady. I can’t believe he can only think about making money, in a time when Luthadel is threatened by two different armies (not to mention a third army of Koloss on its way).
- To think Cett had the audacity to sneak into the city and move in! >:(
- I’m glad Vin finally decided to confront Dockson, because it feels like we hardly know Dockson anymore. I remember in the first book when we were introduced to Kelsier and Dockson, I thought they were such fun charismatic characters, but now Dockson is so quiet. I’m glad though that he doesn’t seem to be the Kandra.
- Breeze! I still love this guy, how he was soothing the entire group of poor Skaa and even soothed the guards at Keep Venture. Not to mention soothing the kitchen ladies to make them more chatty, just so the work will go by faster for them! But then when he speaks to Ham (or anyone) he acts all charismatic and arrogant, like he doesn’t care at all about others. Erggghh I don’t like Allriane rioting his emotions.
- Vin was so close to ambushing Demoux! But wow, I wasn’t expecting him to be a member of the Church of the Survivor!
- YES, it seems they are finally coming to the realization that the Deepness is the Mist!
Let me know if I forgot something important!

Really?? Personally I completely trust Breeze ;) especially after the scene where Vin discovered he's been rioting Elend to make him more bold and courageous and also soothing away his anxieties, all the while still voicing his opinions. And I believe he does this on most occasions, not for his own personal gain, but for the gain of others. He soothes and riots the team to their highest potential. Breeze is actually one of my favourites out of the group! Personally I didn't find what he said about Vin having the hots for Kelsier to be too offensive, it just seemed like he was teasing to me. Although it embarrassed Vin a bit, it didn't really do much harm. XD I think Elend's sadistic father would say much worse!
brrr indeed! I had a shiver run down my spine when Sazed noticed the Koloss were surrounding the tree! So glad he got out of that camp! Yesss and how he refused to eat until he was debriefed! Hahaha gotta love Sazed. There's definitely some history between him and Tindwyl. And I completely agree that the Lord Ruler almost feels more "present" in this book than the last!
YES Spook is safe! Phew...
The pulse, yes how could I forget to mention it! The same pulse that called to Alenti! Mount Darytatith is on my map as well, and I think Vin will most likely be going there soon! I've been thinking Vin is the Hero of Ages as well, especially since a lot of the things that happened to Alenti are happening to her.
I think Vin is powerful for sure! But Elend was exaggerating quite a bit to his father I believe, just as a fear tactic. I think Zane is also very powerful and could quite possibly be better or on par with Vin. However, she knows how to use Duralumin ;)
Yes I felt like Vin admitting that she didn't feel worthy of Elend was a bit melo-dramatic. I can definitely understand what you mean, by comparing it to a Ya novel! But this is a thing that people feel in relationships, especially when the one is more successful/famous than the other. It's silly, but some people do feel that way. As for Vin... Hmmmmm, maybe it is a bit out of character for her.... though she was quite insecure in the first book so some of that could just be appearing again. But it is silly, she should know how much Elend loves her. I'm not sure if they're intimate, but they're definitely a real couple that loves each other. Vin shouldn't hold back on getting married! Also, I like Zane but I reaaaaaallllllyyyy hope he doesn't get in their relationship. Please no love triangle!

I find Vin’s growing relationship with OresSeur to be really interesting, as from the beginning I had an opinion very much like Vin; That thing is creepy and it ate Kelsier.
But after the chapter where we learned of Kandra’s abuse and how they act insignificant in order to avoid attention, much like how Vin had to live, it really brings an entire new perspective. OreSeur is even beginning to trust Vin more and possibly even care for her, as we see him bark when Tindwyl is approaching her door early in the morning. I’m not saying I entirely trust the Kandra species, after all we still don’t even completely understand them, but I am beginning to like OreSeur.

One person I definitely don’t trust though, is Allrianne.

I think she could easily be hiding something, especially with how she spied on their conversation in the middle of the night. Too suspicious.
“You just told me you liked me how I am.”
“I do,” Elend said. “But I’d like you however you were Vin. I love you. The question is, how do you like yourself?”
That gave her pause.
The scene at Straff’s camp was SO intense!! Straff that manipulating bastard. It’s sick how he brought in that young 15 year old girl resembling Vin, just to make a point of who’s in control. He needs to be assassinated. I was so happy when Elend finally decided a different tactic, and threatened to set Vin on a slaughtering spree >:)
However, now we are left worried. Will Zane actually try to kill Vin? I don’t see what reason he has on listening to his father, especially since he seems to like Vin. It’s crazy to think Straff has a ton of Misting children.
Aaaaand now Elend is apparently being impeached. I wonder if this will follow through and someone else will take the throne, or if they will find a way to stop it? So many questions, I can’t wait to read on!

Share your thoughts below!

To be honest, I'm with you on not grasping what it takes for one to be a dormant Mistborn. I wonder if anyone with royal blood can unlock their allowmantic powers, if only they came to a breaking point? This means Elend and any other royal could potentially gain a power. In that case, I'm surprised there isn't people out there trying to force themself to a breaking point in order to become a misting/mistborn. Or maybe it just doesn't happen for some people. I don't know why Zane is so powerful, maybe it's because this mental illness of his has pushed him to break so many times?
I'm liking Zane's character so far! Hahaha yes the trick of hiding a coin in his mouth was so simple yet brilliant! Yes, he doesn't seem paranoid at all! Which is why I wonder if this is even a mental illness at all, and maybe it is someone being that is speaking inside his head. His dad makes me so angry >:(
The Conventical of Seran scene was so fantastic, it gave such a creepy/eerie feel that so suits the Inquisitors. I'm glad sazed was able to get a casting of the steel plaque before leaving. Very good world-building indeed Sanderson!
YESSS! We're finally learning the 'Deepness' is some type of being! This is exciting!!! i definitely think it is related to the mysterious killing-mist. I wonder how the Lord Ruler was able to hold this back. Hmmm I'm thinking Vin might have to take a trip to the Well of Ascension and figure out what it is her own self, yes?
- "We're in deep trouble. I'm so happy! " Hahahaha, same here!
I'm glad you picked up on how brilliant it is that Vin is finding comfort from Alenti's writing! I thought this was a really great bit of writing as well!

I was not expecting the Zane plot twist! Haha can't wait to see what other surprises are ahead! ;)

OMG ELEND HAS A BROTHER. AND HE'S INSANE. I DID NOT EXPECT THIS. WOAAAAAAH.
And here I thought it was going to be Vin's brother! :O
When Zane slit his own wrist (btw ew) then later used tin to enhance his senses, it made me realize that Tin also enhances pain, so you definitely wouldn't wan't to be flaring this when in a fight.
It's creepy how this voice inside him calls itself a god... (did the Lord Ruler also have a voice in his head? Did this 'voice' pass on to a new host to complete it's domination of the world?)
IMAGE: Not real fan art of Zane, just an image I found that sort of represents his inner struggles.

I'm going to write this discussion in sort of point-form, since I kinda just want to continue on reading!:
- This is awhile back, but it was really interesting seeing the Canton of Finance, with all the creepy metal halls and bloody rooms where the Steel Ministry conducts their transformations.
-I'm still very worried about Marsh. He's becoming less and less human. It's not looking good guys! D:

- Sazed is still growing to be one of my fav characters. The scene with the cannibal man in the village, where everyone else had died from this weird mist, was such a gross scene! Fantastic, but gross!
- I'm actually glad this new Terriswoman is working on Elend, he really needs some training and direction on becoming a king. I loved the scene where she got him all dressed up in a new white suit and a fresh haircut. He;s also going to learn how to fight, which is exciting! Do you think he will hvae a breaking moment and become a Mistborn/Misting in the future?

- This ghost in the mist is still such a mystery. I'm glad Vin took the time to do some research in the journals, even if she hasn't figured out what it is. Hmmm I wonder if there's also some "Mist" thing that is speaking inside Zane, making him think he's crazy and proclaiming it is God. Interesting....
- And finally, it has been revealed that Zane has a 'spy' in Luthadel who is looking for the atium stash, and believes they are suspecting him. This of course, has to be the second Kandra. But who could it be???
This was a shorter discussion this time because I don't have a whole lot of input besides the fact that I'm going to be binge reading this book today and will probably post another discussion tomorrow! ^_^
Share your thoughts, and let me know what you think about these chapters!

Yesss, I think there's a good chance it is Vin's brother!! :)
Haha that's great Spook brought you back to the the Last Apprentice books, I was always interested in those books but never got the chance to read them. I truly hope I'm wrong, and Spook wasn't eaten by a Kandra!
Yes, definitely a claustrophobic feeling! That's a good way of putting it!
Sazed continues to be an amazing character, and is one of my favorites so far.
This is how I like to picture him:

I completely forgot to mention the passages in Italics this time around! Thanks for mentioning that, I'm also curious as to who this 'Kwaan' and 'Alenti" characters are (in the English translation it's 'Kwaan' instead of 'Quaan'). I loved the passages in the first book, and hopefully these ones will deliver with a mysterious and intriguing narrative, if not a surprising one like in the first book.
I would love there to be a prequel series, or a flashback!
Erggh gotta hate being spoiled! I definitely wouldn't look up any names, because it would suck to be spoiled for this book! So far they all seem to be the same if not very similar to the English ones so that's good!
I appreciate your input in these discussions!! ^_^
And totally, if there is anyone else reading this book or has read it, feel free to post some thoughts no matter how long or short!

I’m so loving this. Sorry if my thoughts are a bit jumbled.
First, let me mention this weird mist-disease. Sazed was shown a corpse and was told about how this man seemed to collapse in convulsions before dying, after the mist reached him (I think the mist was in the daytime as well). Could this have to do with what the Lord Ruler said, about how he was protecting them from something? Was he protecting them from the mist?
- I was expecting Kelsier’s actions and sacrifice to gain a following, and even a religion, but I do feel bad for Vin though, as she doesn’t know what to say to these people.
- I love how Vin decided to make OreSeur become a dog! And a huge wolfhound at that!

A little creepy how he can open up his skin and muscle to store things…. but I can see how it would be useful, since metals stored inside a living thing can’t be pulled!
Vin explaining to Elend why she doesn’t like Kandra:
“Elend, He ate Kelsier.”
XD I don’t blame her! They are pretty creepy.
I also liked the scene where Elend tells Vin about how Kelsier saved him from the inquisitor in the first book, how Kelsier risked his own life to protect a nobleman, the very people he killed without a second thought. He knew Vin loved Elend, and trusted her judgment. I forgot Vin never knew Kelsier did this.
- When Vin was trying the Aluminum, I found it funny that she needed Ham to “carry her back to her bed in case things went wrong”…. Uhh can’t Elend do that? He is your lover, and I’m sure he’s not so weak or you so heavy that he wouldn’t be able to carry you to bed. I mean, just because he isn’t a misting/mistborn doesn’t mean he’s a total weakling.
- I loved the sparring scene between Vin and Ham. And especially after when Vin found out that Eend bet against her:
Vin frowned at Elend. “You bet against me?”
Elend laughed, leaning across the railing to kiss her. “I didn’t mean it, Clubs bullied me.”
- Let’s talk about what’s going on with Marsh. His voice and body language has changed. He’s becoming more like every other inquisitor. We originally questioned why he wasn’t like the other inquisitors, but I guess it just takes some time. I can’t believe he called the Inquisitors’ his “brethren”. I hope he isn’t luring Sazed into a trap.
- Oh, and Elend still allows the steel ministry obligators to live and teach in Luthadel??? Bad move man, bad move. Like Vin, I would have executed them. There is a time and place to show mercy and compassion, but never to the Steel Ministry.
This duralumin that Vin has been testing is quite interesting. It’s able to drastically enhance the metals you are burning for a short period of time before depleting you of them. It was incredible how Vin used a burst of steel, pewter, and duralumin to push off the Luthadel wall and get to Breeze. This was actually one of my favorite scenes so far, as well as Breeze’s reaction and commentary afterward. I love reading the passages with Breeze in them, he’s always such a charismatic character!
OH AND THE ENDING OF PART ONE :O
I actually got a chill down my spine when reading about the second discarded bones, these one’s not being from OreSeur but some other Kandra. I think for sure now, that the weird figure made of mist that Vin saw on top of Elend’s study in the beginning must have been a Kandra without a body. I’m assuming it found a temporary body, but now has disposed of the bones and found a new body that is a member of the crew. But who?? Clubs would be easy to fake, since he’s always grumpy and doesn’t use much emotion… but then again, Kandra are good with impersonating. It could be Ham, though I don’t think we have any clues that it is him.
And then there is Spook. He arrived wearing a fake beard and a soldier’s uniform…. And apparently he was in the town for awhile without telling anyone. And we still don’t know how he got this uniform. Perhaps the Kandra ate a soldier, killed Spook when he got to Luthadel, then disposed of the soldiers bones and ate Spooks body. Though ‘Spook’ said he was in Luthadel for a few weeks but didn’t tell anyone because he wanted a break from responsibilities, could it be that a Kandra was actually using this time to repair Spooks body and make it look normal? Maybe the fake beard was to cover up some skin on Spooks jaw that the Kandra couldn’t quite get right?? Then again, it could be anyone. SO MYSTERIOUS, I NEED TO KNOW WHO IT IS!!!
What are your thoughts? Let me know below!
Let’s keep reading and see who this second Kandra is!
Theory: Here I go again with another theory. I think this mysterious “Watcher” figure is Vin’s brother. The clues being that Vin notices something familiar about him. Also he asks her why she is playing these “games” with the noblemen, so obviously he isn’t a fan of the nobles. Also he is a half noble half Skaa like Vin, he could easily be a mistborn as well.

This second book of the Trilogy started so amazingly, full action from page one, I didn't expect it. I read these 50 pages without l..."
Yes, no rest for these poor characters! I really liked the fight scene, like you said, it was more intense then any fight in the first book. I'm a bit worried for Vin though. She has definitely grown, and it's very honoring of her to keep Elend safe from assassins. However, I worry that she might not be enough. Hopefully in the pages to come she will be able to find some more Mistborn to recruit or an army of Mistings. Keeping Elend safe is important, but I want Vin to be safe too! ^_^ Hahaha it's so cute how she sleeps on a rug next to his desk!
Yes, I think it would have been impossible for Kelsier to have a child and hide it from everyone. Unless he sent it him off to someone to train in secret? I will still hope! Haha but yeah I think it probably is just referring to Vin being the heir. :P
Straff is a horrible person. Honestly, I know he's Elend's father and all, but if I were Elend I would send out some assassins of my own or get Straff close enough under false surrender, then take him out. He's corrupt.
YESSS they need to find the lost Atium reserves (if they ever did exist)!!! I don't know how they're going to hold the city without it!
Yupp they are called copperclouds in the English translation as well! :) I'm definitely curious as to what's going on with Vin as well! The mist must be some type of metal that can be used, just nobody has figured it out yet!
Wild theory: Maybe Vin will learn to 'burn' the mists metals, and discover that even Skaa can do this, then she will train an army of skaa to support her kingdom >:)
But yes, let's keep reading and discover out some of these secrets that haven't been revealed! ;)

Aaaaand we’re back. One year later, Luthadel is still in quite the disarray.
Vin is paranoid, and for good reason, with assassins being after her beloved Elend and all. Not to mention Straff, Elend’s own father, is marching an army toward Luthadel. I think he truly believes his son will just hand him the throne.

Lord Renoux- errr…. the kandra, now has a name! Oreseur. What an odd name. Well I mean, I guess it is an odd creature.
Also, who is this watcher? He doesn’t seem to want to kill Vin or Elend…
The title of Part One is “Heir of the Survivor”, is it possible that maybe Kelsier had a child? I think I remember something about him saying that his wife/girlfriend (idk) always wanted a daughter…. maybe he is saying this because they had a son? Could this Watcher be Kelsiers son whom he trained secretly in allowmancy??? Just a theory.
What do you think that figure was on the rooftop?
“[…] It’s features were cloudy and vague, outlined by the chaotic churnings of windblown mist.”
To me it sort of sounds like what I would picture a Kandra to look like, just without a human shell.

Hahaha thank you for your kind words!
Man Kelsiers death gutted me as well :( My emotions were pretty much effected all day, I don't blame you for putting the book down. I thought for sure he would be in the next two books!
Oh and yes, this series is kind of 6 books. The next 3 books are part of a "new era" of Mistborn, and technically are a new series called "Wax and Wayne". There's actually a fourth book coming out for this new series as well! It looks a bit more Steampunk to me, as there is actually guns and stuff. So we got a lot of reading ahead of us! Oh and Sanderson has stated that he has two other planed trilogies that will take place in the Mistborn world! :O This man is busy.
Yes, it moved me as well when Vin yelled "You came back". Such a touching moment. Kelsier, Elend, and Vin are all such great characters, I love em.
Right!? I was so suprised to see that Marsh didn't loose any of his humanity and become this sadistic creature that we have seen with all of the Inquisitors. This must mean that the Inquisitors are all messed up and evil before their conversion, perhaps the Lord Ruler picks only the very sadistic to become a spike head. Hmmm I'm not sure if only full Mistborn can become Inquisitors or not...
That is a very good question. Hmmm I think the book being about a hero who fails is more so about The Lord Ruler, since he failed at becoming a hero and instead became a dictator. Because Kelsier was planning to eventually be a sacrifice anyway right, so technically he succeeded. ohhhh but good point, it could be about the hero who Rakesh killed! Good question, it can be interpreted multiple ways.
I never really thought about why The Lord Ruler would keep the old hero's journal... hmmm, well it is true that most physco/sociopaths who murder tend to keep a trinket from their victims and place them like a trophy. That's the only reason I can think of.
I still have no idea what The Lord Ruler has been protecting everyone from though...
YES SAZED!! He needs some appreciation!

I’m currently writing this in the car on my labtop, on my way to Vancouver XD
I apologize for the inactivity here on GoodReads and everywhere else! I actually finished this book awhile ago, but have been busy with family over that I haven’t seen in a long time. My house was extremely crowded so I was only able to read at night, and I didn’t really take many notes.
I’m going to start the 2nd book today, as I can’t wait to see what happens next, but first let’s discuss the ending of The Final Empire. There’s been SO much that’s happened!
Honestly I’m not even sure where to begin. I guess I’ll start with Kelsier.
Kelsier:
Damn it Kelsier, you’re amazing.
A true hero. A genius. A sacrifice.
His fight to free Renoux and company was so well described and epic; his death was so tragically fast and heartbreaking. Half of his face was smacked off :( I’ll be honest, I was worried about Kelsier’s ulterior motive. I thought maybe he would kill the Lord Ruler, and take his place as dictator after being overwhelmed with power. I was worried about the actions he took to boost his reputation.
But I am happy that my worries were laid to rest.
His plan was brilliant. It still had many risks, but I love how it never felt too easy for the characters. Everything seemed to go wrong at all the perfect moments and there was never too much convenience. It was intense. For the most part I genuinely had no idea how things were going to work out.
For how big his ego was, he really had a meek role in the plan, giving himself as sacrifice to inspire the Skaa. This has a very obvious Jesus-like inspiration to it. In fact, when the Kandra (Renoux) stole Kelsier’s body it was somewhat like a resurrection scene, although I was expecting this Kandra to make an appearance to the Skaa and further inspire them, but I don’t think much happened once it took Kelsier’s body did it?
I’m sad Kelsier died, but his sacrifice put everything in motion. Thankfully it worked out and his death wasn’t in vain.
The Lord Ruler
Wow, I’m still so surprised that The Lord Ruler isn’t the man who was writing the journals, but is actually Rakesh the Terrisman. I guessed that he was using Feruchemy due to how many times the book talked about his jewelry, but I never put it together that that would make him a Terrisman, and of course the hero in the journal wasn’t of Terris descent. The description of how Sazed and The Lord Ruler deflate their bodies is so gross! XD And it’s just odd for me to picture Sazed all muscular and huge.
I did find it a bit odd how Vin was able to rip the metalmind bracer from The Lord Rulers body. I’m not sure how she gained such strength. I know it’s mentioned that she thinks she might have pulled on power from the mist, so hopefully this will get more of an explanation in the 2nd book.
What is it that The Lord Ruler was protecting everything from? Why are they all doomed?
This ‘Deepness’… maybe in some way he was able to hold it back but not defeat it? What is The well of Ascension???? I can’t wait to read book 2.
Elend:
Gentleman. Booklover. The new King.
I would serve under a king like him! Hopefully he will make a huge library, filled with books that were previously banned. I definitely ship him and Vin <3

Marsh:
OMG HE’S ALIVE!!!!! AND AN INQUISTOR WOAAAAAHHHH!!!
I was so excited to see Marsh return! I’m curious though, I always assumed that Inquisitors all had that sort of creepy personality, perhaps from undergoing whatever procedure. But Marsh is still himself, just with two large spikes through his face and 9 more in his body. All the other inquisitors just seemed so…… creepy. I wonder what type of procedure he had to go through, and why there was so much blood?

Vin:
SHE DID IT. SHE KILLED THE LORD RULER.
Vin is an amazing protagonist and I really grew to like her. I felt like her trust issues got a bit old at times, but I still really liked her. I was really worried during the time that she had no Allomantic powers!
I was very surprised to see her brother never betrayed her, and lied even through all the torture.
Hmmm I wonder if maybe Vin’s mom killed her other daughter (Vin’s sister) in order to have a body to lead the Inquisitor’s away? So they would assume the half-blood child was dead? Or maybe she was just psycho. Either way it’s pretty horrible.
BUT WOW THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD! TIME TO READ THE 2ND ONE!

Allowmancy
We know that Allomancy allows a person to burn metals that they have ingested, resulting in magic abilities to enhance mental and physical capacities.
Steel (Coinshot): Can push on nearby metals.
Iron (Lurcher): Can pull on nearby metals.
Pewter (Thug): Increases physical abilities.
Tin (Tineye): Increases physical senses.
Zinc (Rioter): Enflames emotions.
Brass (Soother): Dampens emotions.
Copper (Smoker): Can hide Allomantic pulse.
Bronze (Seeker): Can detect Allomantic pulses.
There is also Atium, a metal that grants Allowmancers the ability to see into another person's future. The user can see what their opponent is going to do before it happens, giving them time to avoid or counterattack in response.
Feruchemy
As of right now we do not know much about this type of magic. What we do know is that it is a genetic ability found in the Terris region, and that it allows the user to store their metals to use when needed.
If you were allowed only one power (not Atium or Feruchemy) what would it be? I think I would either be a Lurcher or a Soother.

I wanted to make a discussion on these chapters, as there's been a lot that's worth mentioning and I fear I'll forget to mention some important bits when we get to the end of this Part.
The ball at Keep Elariel gave us some interesting information. Elend quite possibly could be a character willingly to join the rebellion, judging by his reading material and questions about the Skaa. Weather Patterns of the Northern Dominance, or, Book of the False Dawn, the name of the book hiding covert opinions on the Lord Ruler's actions that was hidden among Elend's book stack, states:
"However, one only need look to the near past to note such blunders as the Massacre at Devanex, the revision of the Deepness Doctrine, and the relocation of the Renates peoples."
I hope we get to learn more about these blunders in the future. We're getting to know more and more that the Lord Ruler once was an ordinary man, perhaps even a good man, and these blunders even further prove that he is not a God, but just a man with too much power.
Elend's betrothed is very unpleasant to say the least. I'm curious as to why she had her servant go searching through Elend's books. Has he been known to carry risky books with him? Is she purposefully looking for something to get Elend in trouble?
Also, it's pretty tragic how the guard slit that young boys throat just outside of the ball. It seems to me like even though many of these nobles are evil, there are also a lot that are just oblivious to what it's like outside of their cushioned lifestyle.
I love these scenes with Kelsier wearing a disguise and putting on a character. A very strategic way to gain information and... spread a few pieces of clever fabrication ;)

It is worrisome that the elite already have rumors about the Skaa rebellion and Kelsier's return. Mind you, Kell isn't too hesitant to make his presence known among the Skaa, so it's bound to reach noble ears.
I loved the dialogue between Vin and Marsh, when he was training her to sense Allomantic Pulses. The way he caught her soothing him mid speech LOL. It's also VERY interesting that Marsh might have had feelings for his sister-in-law.
Also, there's something important about Sazed wearing spectacles when reading, when usually he doesn't. It's been mentioned a few times now...
And finally, it was interesting to finally see where they are training the Skaa soldiers. I know it's mentioned that the cavern is perfect for defense, and the Lord Ruler has never lead any successful attacks on it yet, but I still worry... what if some Inquisitors managed to get through one of the entrances and slaughter the Skaa army? I feel bad for Kelsier, having to deal with memories of the Pits when entering the base. The way he manipulated the fight between the honorable soldier and the doubting one was quite ingenious, and fun to read.
Let me know your thoughts on these chapters!
