2051 38. Basilisk -****- Aww Misha, how can you be that adorable and good and an evil mastermind?
"It was five months later that I finally admitted defeat, finishing what I'd started more than half a year ago, and was at my laptop, hacking into Lolcats, crashing the site, and removing any mention of it from the Net. It was evil and had to go."

2051 37. Chimera-****-Very similar to Nightlife etc, just with genetic engineering instead of supernatural monsters. Misha is great and the ending equal parts heartbreaking/lovely
"Hope was a four letter word all right; the most profane I'd ever heard"

2051 36.A Dance with Dragons-I honestly have no clue what star rating to give this-(view spoiler)
"The hero never dies, though. I must be the hero."
Jul 24, 2011 02:26PM

2051 The Princess Bride - The movie was just the most fantastic thing ever. And possible actually Howl's Moving Castle
Jul 01, 2011 02:29PM

2051 40 books on my 2011 shelf (including rereads (3) and shorts (1)). Best so far - A Storm of Swords (easily) and The Wise Man's Fear I seem to be going for fat books this year.
Surprisingly I've also read quite a few stinkers too

2051 Off the pace atm :-0

34.The Hedge Knight-****- Poor naive little me thought: "this is going well, perhaps it'll be nicer than ASOIAF"
"Are there no true knights among you?"

35.Darkfever-***- One sure way to ruin books - describe your characters terrible fashion sense all the way through
"Why, then, Ms. Lane, do you look like a perky rainbow?"

[Reread]Demon Angel-*****-Thought I'd start my Guardian's reread before Demon Marked,Angels of Darkness and Heart of Steel arrive sept, oct,nov :-D

[Reread]Archangel-****-Was really in the reread sort of mood and this was always my least favourite of a lovely series. My thoughts on it remain the same
2051 I didn't get it either, but yeah the clues were all there. If I was a shifter then I'd so go for that

2051 33. Dragon Bound-****- This reminded me a lot of the Guild Hunter series actually, though with shape shifting dragons.
I didn't mean to say that. Um, pay no attention to the lunatic inhabiting this body."

2051 32. Kiss of Snow-***- I was actually underwhelmed by Hawke/Sienna. The story parts were awesome - but them as a couple was tame. Walker/Lara were more interesting. And Judd/Ghost continues to rule all
"Taking the paperweight she’d knocked off her desk out of his pocket, he put it in her hands. “It’s fixed. As long as you don’t mind more than a few scars."

2051 31. Born of Fire -***- Pretty standard scifi rom but a little cheesy. Man I hate epilogues
"Didn't anyone ever tell you that men have a specified word count set aside for each day and if I don't stop talking, my tongue will explode"

2051 After a whole load of epic I decided to take things down a bit, oh dear

29. Fantasy Lover -**- I don't think I've ever read a worse fight scene than the one at the end of this

30. City of Fallen Angels -**- Took me about fifty pages to remember I don't actually care for any of these characters
"And does that not suit him better, a soul that soars like a bird in flight, rather than falling like Lucifer

2051 28. A Feast for Crows -****- I can now join all those waiting anxiously for Dance with Dragons, O joy!
"Behind her loomed the Iron Throne, its barbs and blades throwing twisted shadows across the floor."

2051 Chris wrote: "Other people have suggested the Kvothe/Kote in The Name of the Wind/The Wise Man's Fear is a Mary Sue. Still thinking about this ..."

Yeah, I think Kvothe is more a play on a mary-sue. In the legends about him he is perfect, but he's telling us the 'real' version where he messes up a lot.

2051 27. A Storm of Swords -*****- Holy, just whoa, I mean woo. That was, whoa, yeah
"You know nothing, Jon Snow"

2051 Oh yeah definitely. Already feeling teary eyed after poor Lady

I truly believe the world would be a better place if Sean Bean gave Kit Harrington a hug.

2051 True but it bugged me like hell at the beginning - I was thinking- yeah I quite like him and then - oh crap he just did what?!

I'm loving that now though, how you can't trust anyone completely. (Apart from Jon, god help GRRM if he turns him.)
(view spoiler) really took me by surprise.

There are still more than a few characters that I'm thinking could go either way. And then there are characters I like for some aspects of their personality but dislike them for others - Catelyn especially

2051 Mine would be Black Sun Rising: The Coldfire Trilogy #1. I was at my old job with nothing to do but read and wait and I just couldn't read it, it was so dull. The choice came down to reading or staring at the wall and the wall won

Other than that there are a few I was made to read at school that I have bad memories of but I don't think I can blame the books themselves for that

2051 26. A Clash of Kings -*****- It took me most of the first book to come to like the characters and get into the story but now I'm sold
"The longer he lived, the more Tyrion realised that nothing was simple and little was true"

2051 Yeah I figure it's going to take me a long time to catch up. They're hard work, but I wanted to watch the TV series and I prefer not having the book spoiled (TV I don't mind so much)
