2051 37. Wave by Sonali Deraniyagala.
{Heart-wrenching, but I really connected with her story - this is unusual for me, as I do not usually connect with people that have children [as my husband and I don't have kids]. I've also never physically experienced a natural disaster in such a way. She is a wonderful writer, her words chosen carefully, so much that I felt like I was reading [hearing] something sacred or private. I'm glad Deraniyagala shared her story, even after so many years.}

2051 28. Brief Interviews With Hideous Men by David Foster Wallace.
{Do not let DFW's persona of hidden witticisms fool you - the title is dead on accurate. I liked The Broom of the System much better, but then again it was a more palatable subject matter. When reading this collection of short stories, I felt like I was watching a sickening newscast on an insane kidnapper and their victims. I'll be moving on to other DFW collections to wipe the slate clean.}

{Didn't love this one by DFW, but will be trying out his nonfiction/short stories/essays in the upcoming weeks. It's both amazing and disheartening that he wrote this at 24!}

2051 25. The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver.

Hi Rose - Thanks for your comment. Indeed, I realize this was a short story, and couldn't help but compare the short story to the film in my brief comment here. I should have made that comparison more distinct in the comment. Thanks!

2051 24. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
{I picked up this leaflet to read this month to bolster my knowledge of Fitzgerald's writing, as my new book club is reading This Side of Paradise in May. I'd already seen the movie, and felt disappointed in this 52-page book. Several characters were left out completely, chiefly the mother that bore Benjamin Button. I did appreciate the father's involvement in this book, as well as Fitzgerald's cyclical style of closing the story nicely. It would be interesting to have Fitzgerald see the movie version of his book, then write a novel based on the film.}

Your book choices are really interesting! I might jot a couple of these titles down for further review. :)
