I think, more and more today, the legacy houses are looking for authors who can bring TO THEM marketing platforms already baked into the pie...and the reason is, they aren't putting out anything near what they did years ago in terms of advances, marketing dollars/assistance, and so forth. And I agree with Alex...frankly, having to deal with a content editor (I don't mind the other) would make my skin itch, never mind the fact my book wouldn't see the light of day for a least a year or more. I'd love the validation, but hell, life is short. Who needs the aggravation?

That's their "out." I guess they are so inundated that they simply toss aside what they don't want and let the clock run out. Such is life today. When I was in business, I insisted that our HR departments always (!) responded to every candidate, regardless of the outcome. There is no excuse for poor manners. None!

20? I've got enough to paper the loft! (;>)

Most seem pretty pedestrian to me, but what do I know.

Yes, I saw it. Really strange, given the repeat awards. I'm not sure what's going on there? Students? Favs? Something doesn't make sense. Oh well.

201765 Hi, Gang!

I know we’ve been “missing in action,” but we’re back this week with a story that’s literally out of this world. I think you’ll find it both interesting and intriguing. It’s posted under the name of Alyssa Devine, so if you can lend the gal a hand, please vote for her here:

You can read her story here (it’s the first one):

Terrific piece, Carole. I'm surprised he hasn't completed his Author Central page:

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=dp_bylin...

You might remind him to do so. Missing a great marketing opportunity (which includes bringing in a blog from Goodreads).

That's terrific. OCD can be good, at times. It's like be paranoid...just because you are doesn't mean someone isn't out to kill you.

201765 With Word 2016, it's easy to back up to both devices on every manual save...takes just a few seconds. And on the PC itself, I AUTOSAVE (set through Options) every 5 minutes.

What matters is having that backup available instantly!
Feb 18, 2018 02:31PM

201765 I worked all morning on Book 5 of my series, Creative Ink, Flashy Fiction. When I came back this afternoon to redo the composite cover after my first submission was rejected by CreateSpace, my computer said it could not locate the CS folder. I could see the folder in Windows Explorer, but there was no indication that any of the sub-folders were present. (That is, that little symbol to the left on which to click to expand the contents was missing.)

I decided to shut the computer down and restart. However, when I restarted it, the sought-after CS folder was gone. Instead, I found it embedded in another sub-folder, two sub-folders below where it originally had been (what's up with that?!). When I clicked on it, I again got a message saying the computer could not locate the folder.

Now...I do have Backblaze backup running on my PC for harddrive backup, but there's no assurance that they "caught" the files I worked on this morning.

However . . . for all of my books and anything to do with them, I keep a complete backup on a YUGE memory stick. So, after deleting the wayward sub-folder (which appeared to still have all of the files in it, from the looks of the delete-file window), it took all of five seconds to replace the entire CreateSpace sub-folder (and its six sub-folders) for this book.

Moral of the story: back up everything you do on your books using a memory stick. Don't take a chance that you will loose even an hour's work. Your time is much too valuable!
Giveaways (4 new)

201765 GR Giveaways are a scam...totally worthless. Did six with multiple books given away in each. Priority mailed the books to the recipients. Never got ONE review. Save your time and money! They are a totally worthless venture. (PS Even found one of my signed books for sale on a Used Book site two weeks later. T)
