I have written to two negative reviews and it was only because they listed a heap of issues with the book. When I looked at the book, I realized we had updated it with an old unedited version instead of the recently updated version. I just wrote them explained what had happened and offered to send them a paperback of the correct book. I also through in another book with it and a thank you card.
They ended up changing their reviews, but I didn't ask them too. I felt bad other people got the crap book and I couldn't do the same for them.
The trolls and the drive by 1 ratings suck. It also sucks when you read a bad review and they obviously never read the description of the book and read it anyway. I think the free book giveaways on Amazon can lead to bad reviews. People take it for free, and if they had had to pay for it, they wouldn't have ever read it because it's not a book they really like.
Just take the good with the bad!
Okay. So I'm writing an article about whether or not you should engage with reviewers and readers that leave negative/bad reviews. Do you ever do it?
Have you ever done it?
Would you do it again?
What was the reason you did do it?
Just want a brief idea of where people stand! Thanks!!

Well, I have a couple of good things that happened. First off, I sold a heap of one of my books on Ingram, I'm guessing to a library chain or club or something! That was pretty exciting! And, I emailed Amazon and they price matched one of my books and made it perma-free! So, if anyone would like a free Kindle copy of The Day My Fart Followed Me To The Dentist, then check it out!

Nice article. I think one of the biggest problems facing indie authors is other self-published authors that aren't what many of us would consider being indie authors. They are just copying whatever book they see selling, or copying the theme, flogging it and selling poorly made books at cheap prices. They're flooding the market with this junk. I think it will sort itself out over the next year or two, but not all of us will be around.
On Indie publishing this week we have the amazing Josie Jaffrey! http://www.indiepublishinggroup.com/a...
