The virtual tour started today. See my guest post "Why I Write" at Long and Short Reviews. Share and comment if you can. Thank you!
Alex wrote: "And in a perfectly appropriate end to what can only be described as a pants week I have just got back from the hospital after spending the evening there with mum, who had another seizure, thankfull..."What is it with all the hospitalizations lately? Glad to hear it was only minor, anyway. I hope they can figure it out and help her.
Jean wrote: "Hello, went back and followed a bunch of people. Hope you will do the same for me! Thanks."Following you, thanks!
Alex wrote: "No need to thank me, Dale, I just copied a suggestion from someone else. It's Carole and Brit and the work they'll be doing that requires thanks."So thank you for copying it, otherwise I wouldn't have seen it. ;-)
This is a "just in case anyone is interested." In addition to my author blog I've also have one called Planet Baha'i, which is focused on the Baha'i Faith (my religion). I used to run it as a full-featured website with resources, links, and weekly articles, but when we launched our publishing business (One Voice Press) back in 2010 I "retired" it due to time limitations. It stayed online for a few years as an archive, then suffered a major data loss. Eventually I reincarnated it as a simple blog, but haven't had much time for it.
After a long hiatus--like, a year and a half--I finally published an article last Friday (Symptoms and Diseases) while my wife was in the hospital, and another one just today (Invoking the Divine).
Thank you.
Amy wrote: "It’s the same problem I have with promotion. Money. It always comes back to money."Ditto.
I've decided to put a tad more money into this and spent $10 on a Facebook promotion for the event, targeting mystery fiction readers in Maryland. It won't get me a lot of exposure, but might reach up to 1,000 people who otherwise wouldn't see my event. And for $10, I figure if nothing happens, it's not much of a waste. By the by, if you haven't clicked on "Going" or "Interested," please do. That should get you any updates, and might make me feel like I'm doing good. ;-)
Thanks!
Voting is open! Ted and I both have stories in the running this week. Enjoy, and please vote for your favorite.Read stories in the comments of this page.

Amy wrote: "I forgot to ring the doctor's yesterday to get my blood test results. Who forgets that kind of thing? I can only ring between 3 pm and 5 pm. I am trying to remember to do that today. You'd think it..."Happens all the time. You're not alone. :-P
Theodore wrote: "My editor doesn't like it, but the fact is, either you use it or you don't. I don't like inconsistencies! Pick a lane and stick with it!"Within a given work, certainly . . . except when necessary for clarity.

Thank you everyone! It's been a long haul with this book, but I think the results justify it. Now if we could just get out of this hospital and back home again...
The epub and mobi editions of Ice on the Bay are finished, and the interior proof is ready to send to the printer. Just have to add a barcode to the cover and we'll be ready for production. Deadlines met!
Wikipedia has an interesting article on the subject. What some editors might miss is that most sources that call for omission of the serial comma allow for its inclusion when required to avoid ambiguity. Reasons for omission seem to be that it's unnecessary (unless its omission causes an ambiguity, but that can often be resolved by rearranging items in the list and other techniques) and that, for journalists, it saves space to exclude it if possible.
There are also a few rare cases where including it can cause ambiguity.
Nevertheless, I'll stick with it. ;-)
Theodore wrote: "https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/09/us/dai...I always use them in ALL of my writings!!!!!
My editor doesn't like them, but it's good to be the king!"
That's funny . . . if you don't owe the $5 million! I've always used them myself and never understood why anyone would want to omit it, because certainly there are cases where the result can be confusing. Our little publishing house also considers them standard, unless the author really, really objects to it.
After a couple of weeks off, I've entered a new flash fiction story in the Indies Unlimited competition, this one about a killer whale found . . . WHERE??Ted also has one (which he can describe for you). Voting will be open Wednesday and Thursday. Enjoy!
